How do I modify a specific part of my track on gargeband, fo example I want to lower a specific part of the wavelength or add an effect only to a small part of the wavelength..? I know how to on Audition I can't figure it out on GB.

I'm pretty sure you CAN'T do this. Maybe in the most recent version (packaged with Leopard), but I'm still running what came with Tiger in '07. Generally I just make an identical track, mute it until the part you want an effect on occurs, cross fade the two tracks so the effect track comes on without a blip, then crossfade back to the original track without the effect. Sort of a pain in the ass, but not really all too complicated.

A+ for relevance.

Can I do it with Logic/Pro Tools?

Can I do it with Logic/Pro Tools?Absolutely. You can automate your plugins to come on or turn off whenever you want.

Dammit, I guess i'll have to do it track by track then.... I really liked Garageband but that's a huge flaw...

By wavelength do you mean fractions of seconds? As in you want to edit individual samples? Or do you want to add an effect to a couple of seconds of audio?

Get the new garageband. You can fade effects in and out just like you can pan and adjust volume.

I generally don't, no real reason I suppose. Not to say you CAN'T do it, of course, but I find the fade more forgiving than the other option, for some reason I feel it sounds a bit more natural.

I guess garage band must work differently than most other programs. On most others if you use effects like that on different tracks, it doesn't skip or crack or anything. It just sounds like you pressed the "on" button for the effect.

my advice?

garageband sucks. I used it for years simply because it was easy and I was used to it.

Then I moved to logic. Logic is awesome, I love it, but it still sucks for a few reasons. Not too many plugins available, the .AU platform isn't as "widely accepted" as vst or rtas, therefor--only a handful of plugins available. The best overall setup I've found?

1. A decent pc with pro tools and a plethora of plugins and Cool Edit Pro to edit sound files easily in the fashion you speak of

2. A decent mac with logic (and jam packs and such)

I usually record with Logic and process the files with Pro Tools. Logic has this annoying habit of erroring out frequently when I run any plugins whatsoever on any tracks. So.

To the guy who said something about automating the plugins to go on and off whenever you please in logic, how do you do this? Logic kind of...runs horribly with plugins activated no matter how great your platform is....so I'm actually pretty curiouus about this, maybe it could be the light at the end of my tunnel? haha

I've never used logic, but I'm certain that a recording program of that level would have plugin automation. I'm not 100% sure how it would work in Logic, but check your manual for "automation."

You can automate faders and whatnot for volume, right? It should work similarly. Logic is one of the big sequencers, and I've heard from some people who work in studios who use it as their main sequencer. It definitely can support plugins if your computer is powerful enough.

What version of Logic and what kind of computer are you using? Did you buy it or download it or what?

Some people can't afford programs, and garageband is free.

Well said. I can't help but chuckle in a few threads on here. The one where someone had to choose betwen two les pauls and some goblin said "neither. les pauls suck. get a tele." Or this one, the kid's asking how to do something in a specific program. Solution offered? Get a different program. Not even saying how to DO it in that program. Just make sure to get one. Sigh.

I definitely find some things on these forums very frustrating, but unfortunately it is a (usually) helpful community, at least it has been for me. I just wish people were more friendly. As for this topic, Garageband is a great program for recording demos for people who don't want to buy or learn a better program. I know the quality isn't the greatest and whatnot, but aside from that, it is a really powerful program and at least at this moment in my recording career I am sticking with it.

I figured out how to fade in/fade effects, word.

It looks like you can automate effects in Garageband? As in have an effect come in or out during a track automatically, as well as changing parameters of the effect.

Record producers use dynamically changing effects to keep a song sounding fresh and exciting from start to finish. GarageBand makes it easy to do the same by automating effect changes within a composition — so you don’t have to settle for one constant setting throughout.

Yeah I figured out how to do it after a while...

Then realised how simple it was and how stupid I felt haha.
