why should they "hang it up?" when they still manage to sell out shows and have more and more kids listen to them every day?

Exactly!

I've seen Senses Fail a few times around here there were a couple of times when they performer really well. Buddy just has a hard time with the singing sometimes but if you get him on a good night it's enjoyable performance for sure.

Yes sir. Catch Buddy on a good singing night, you're in for a great show. As evident in the 'Rum' video on Conan, Buddy isn't always on the right foot while the rest of the band is.

I saw them on the Drive Thru Invasion Tour and they were bad then. If you're unable to play your songs well, you shouldn't be playing shows. And thrashing and jumping around doesn't cover up for a shoddy performance.

I agree but i've actually seen him on a couple good nights and it was a good performance. Nothing phenomenal but worthy of my $20 for sure.

Nerves. When Coheed played on TV for the first time, Jimmy Kimell, I think, they sounded terrible. Claudio sang like a fucking crow. But, then, after they settled into a groove, they sounded wonderful. Imagine being a fucking kid in front of the entire country. It's pretty scary if you've never done it before. Besides, these guys aren't rock stars, they're regular duded like you and me. Give em a break.

exactly, just because he has a good night every now and then, that doesn't really cover up the fact that he's not a very good vocalist with some slick polish placed on his recorded vocals. senses fail are a talented band, but buddy should seriously look into vocal lessons. i don't mean that as an insult, i'm saying it would probably help. vinnie from the movielife took vocal lessons before they recorded '40 hour train..' and his voice sounded incredible recorded and live. you're never too old...

and if he has taken vocal lessons, then i'm not sure how much hope there is for him. i guess if kids want to continue listening to the slick vocal polish and auto tone on the album and then ignore his poor vocal ability live, then hey, by all means...

I agree it wouldn't hurt. He should look into it before going in the studio for their next album. I'd like to hear how much it helps. I mean when he sings his voice is pretty good. I mean i like it.

I dunno. Im not really going to take any sides with this one. They do have some bad shows. I made myself sick from listening to Let It Enfold You too much. I still dont mind them though. When i saw them live they were good. Still though, all that trashing does help. It gives them great stage presence. If they could touch up the music portion of their performances id be in complete happiness. :dweeba2:

actually i think the performance was really really good for them besides the mess up with the vocals at the beginning. If you notice the band is dead on....he probably just had gotten really nervous right before they played..which i could only imagine what that feels like.

p.s. (if you know about recording.....there actually is pretty much NO autotune on their cd. So he can definitely sing those parts.

well, to give credit to other bands, I was at this halifax show...it was in support of Sugarcult and Still Life Projector.

They are definitely an awesome band, and the guy covering bass right after the fallout did awesome. Too bad the crowd wasn't too into em. Definitely wanna check em out when they have a full length and people are there to see them...Should be a great show.

And that is definitely messed up dude. It's offensive, and people have already said he didn't sound great. However, past the first verse it sounds fine....

What would it sound like if u were (assuming u are young like them) put on TV in front of a national audience to sing when u are used to club tours, and Warped as youur biggest tour? It would cause problems...don't insult others by dropping comments like that.

I like Senses Fail alot. I do admit that Buddy's vocals are not spectacular live. But bands must realize that when they record a cd proffesionally (use autotune, compress the vocals) that live the vocals will sound thinner than they do on the Cd. And to the person that said they didn't use auto tune on Let it Enfold you, thats bullshit. If autotune is done correctly, you don't realize that it is being used. I like Buddy's voice, i think it works with the music, but he dosen't have a "good voice" and im positve they used auto tune on alot of parts, most bands in this genre do.

JohnnyUtah
01/17/05, 02:18 PM
I enjoy Senses Fail on CD, and live the guitars and Drums are tight, but Buddy Really suffers from Adam Larazza Syndrome Live.

I understand about autotune and all the little tricks and things for recorded vocals, but shit you can only look past it for so long, it really hurts the performance as a whole.

Also, was the whole first verse Ad-libbed?

i know about autotune cause i do recordings myself. You can tell it's in brief spots on the cd occassionally. But if you own any Steve Evetts records (ie Saves the Day - Thru Being Cool, Glassjaw - Everything about silence, Static Lullaby, etc. etc.).....none of them really have any autotune on it. That's the reason bands go with him...he's got more of a natural and still raw feeling to his records. If you wanna know autotune listen to any john feldman record

Just outa curiosity, Feldman is a producer correct? and what has he produced?

xsavesthelinex
01/17/05, 03:37 PM
Feldman has produced: Showoff, Mest, The Used, Unloco, Story of the Year, and the last few Goldfinger Records. I think Feldman is an awesome producer, he comes up with mind blowing special affects, and makes all of his bands sound dope. From what I hear, he also does alot of writing with the bands he works with.

The only downside to working with him, is having to back it up live. Which I have not seen done, with the exception of mest. He has a very slick style, some would prefer a more raw feel, but it's just preference.

No, they are not amazing on stage. They were the most un "tight" national band I have ever seen. And buddy is just terrible live, easily one of the biggest let downs. The rest of the band wasnt that bad on conan, but buddy just flat out sucked and the bass player's screaming was pretty bad too.

That's exactly what I was thinking. Buddy sounded terrible and his hair looked like shit and the bass player's vocals didn't fit well into the mix. On the other hand, I really liked the guitar work and I thought the drums sounded pretty good too. This band really just needs another vocalist and they'd be good IMO.
