Im in a new indie/rock band and im looking for some effects to use.
Some of the bands that we kinda sound like are sigur ros, radiohead, the envy crops and explosions in the sky

Some of the pedals i already have are a tremolo and delay, i am thinkin of getting a digital reverb and either a sansamp DI bass driver or a EBS octabass

So if anyone has any suggestions on what pedals i should try, that would be great!

One of my favorite effects is my DigiTech Bass Synth Wah. It's got alot of crazy synth tones, some pretty good envelope filter sounds and is the best octave pedal I've used. The amount of sounds you can get out of the thing is insane, but not everyone has a use for crazy synth noises.

Get the SansAmp BDDI too. I have the programmable one with three channels, and it's become a centerpiece to my rig. You may want to look into some of the other SansAmp pedals though (GT2, Paradriver). The bass driver lacks a midrange control, and that's something a lot of people have a problem with.

I don't even know where to start with delays, there are so many out there and they all have something special about them, so just try as many as you can. Same thing with chorus pedals.

And if you want some seriously "out-there" sounds, look into a Whammy or pitch shifter pedal. The whammy is one of my favorite effects, but you really have to pick and choose when to and how to use it.

Oh hey, long post.

thanks alot man!!
yea i was lookin around on Tech 21's website and they have this new sansamp pedal..its called VT Bass Pedal..its basically the DI and the XXL mixed together..its got a mid control(which i need) so im thinkin about tryin that one out first

ive already got a Boss DD-6 delay,so im good for now on that..i might get a Line 6 DL4(when i played guitar for another band, thats the pedal i had) the EBS octabass is also on my mind as is the boss octave OC-3. ive never tried a synth pedal before, but next time im at a guitar store,i shall!!

what kind of band are you in?

Yeah, after see the VT is kinda wish I hadn't gotten the Bass Driver, cause I really could use that mid control sometimes. And the synth pedal is one I highly recoomend, I've found so many different uses for it. it really responds differently according to your touch when you play, so it can be a really dynamic or subtle effect, depending on how you play.

I have a DigiTech delay too, which I really like. But i've been wanting to get a DD-6 so I can run my rig in stereo with two amps, with a clean sound with delay to one amp and all the rest of my effects through the other That way I always have a strong clean signal running even when I go nuts with the effects.

And the best way for me to describe my band would be Thursday with alot of synths and a bit of Paramore's poppiness with more screams. Or something.

Yeah man I hear ya. I don't personally know anyone else who's into effects as much as me. No matter what, everytime I play a show my massive pedalboard always raises a few eyebrows. I always find it funny that every band I've been in I have more effects than both guitar players combined.

Btw, here's my board:

I never check out the bass POD, though I've thought about getting some kind of giant multi effects like that. One day I'd like to get a MIDI foot controller and put all my pedals in a rack. I love having all these pedals, but it does become a burden onstage a lot of the time.

I got my first DigiTech Pedal 5 years ago, and I have had no problem whatsoever with any of them. A lot of people don't like the "digital" sound, but the only one that lacks in sound is the multi effect pedal, which I only use for the whammy and a few other effects I don't have stompboxes for yet.

Oh, and I use one of these (http://www.godlyke.com/shopping/pgm-more_information.php?id=5&thiscat=16&frompage=Online_Store&page_num=1&=SID) to power it all. Claims it can power up to twenty pedals, which is more than I'll ever need. No giant wall wart, it fits in one outlet on a power strip. No transformer either, so it never gets hot. I had mine plugged in for probably a good couple of months straight and no problem at all.

Man I never even thought about the DD-20. I'm going to get another delay soon, and I just may go for that one.

What kind of bass do you play? I have a buttload, but my main bass is a Fender 57 Reissue P-Bass. Everything about it is perfect. The sound, the feel, and the fact that not matter what kind of crazy stuff I put it through it seems like it'll never fail me. I have a couple more P-Basses too, and an old Ibanez that I defretted.

The Miller is pretty sweet, though jazz basses in general usually have too small a neck for my hands. I get a cramp in my fretting hand whenever I play my dad's Geddy Lee Jazz.

For an amp right now my dad and I share his rig, an Eden WT500 head and an Eden 4x10. I'm saving up for a MarkBass rig with a 6x10 right now. The MarkBass stuff is so small. The head I'm getting puts out 500 watts and is small and light enough to fit in my gig bag, and the cabs are very light as well. The whole thing gets PLENTY loud despite it's size.

yea man,ive actually never heard of the Eden or Markbass...ive always had ppl use ampeg,so ive always got use to the sound and thats why i went with it..plus it only cost me $1200 for the head and the cab, cant really pass up a sell like that

That's a pretty sweet deal. My dad put out about $2000 for the Eden rig.

Really, I would be going for the same rig you have if the MarkBass stuff wasn't so portable. I figure it'll really come in handy if my band ever goes on any sort of tour. I know the Ampeg stuff can get pretty heavy, and this MarkBass head is only 6 punds or so. It's nuts.

someday i will get a 4x10 and probably get rack mount shit..but for the time being ill keep this shit

Yeah the 4x10 I use now seems like it weighs a ton, but I'm glad I don't have to haul around an 8x10, even though it'd be nice to be that loud!

Guitar Center has a lot of the MarkBass stuff if you want to try it.
