i really don't know what's so hateable about the patriots that anyone they aren't playing can be so opposed to them. honestly now, they're likable guys, they play hard and like a team and they don't do flashy asshole stuff (granted, the steelers are good for this too, bunch of great guys on that team.) the pats don't come out the first game of the season and say "holy shit fuckers, the patriots are the team to beat holy jesus christ" like the cowboys used to, but everyone loved the cowboys when they were the dominant team.. i understand preferring the steelers in the game on sunday, but HATING the patriots just seems like such a trendy thing to do.

It's not trendy or unreasonable. 2 things that happened Sunday should justify hate.

1. "We're back" - Tom Brady, in that gay voice, in the promo before the game
2. Bruschi's post-game interview to Sal from ESPN

I despise this team.

I can keep going

- They have people named "Tedy Bruschi" and "Randall Gay" on the team
- The way Rodney Harrison plays football
- I hate when they get so ***** with lining up Seymour and Vrabel on the goal line
- Troy Brown
- The fact that people still want to call them underrated, and they even think they are
- Corey Dillon has been one of my most hated RBs for years, acquiring him made it worse
- The constant referring to Belichick as a "genius"
- Tom Brady's Sirius satellite commercial
- The phrase "Brady's Bunch"

Yet you enjoy, "cut that meat"

That's a great commercial, admit it. Even Vick did a better commercial than Brady, and I hate Vick.

so putting aside your blatant homophobia, you hate them why? because they held the team to 3 points?

I think it's pretty obvious. If you can't figure it out by now, that's pretty bad. The headlines this week just make my hate stronger, because I'm constantly hearing "Brady a lock for Canton?", "Belichick best coach ever?", and "Patriots best team in NFL history?" and all 3 just make me sick to my stomach as a NFL fan.

When you hold the Colts to 3 points, you deserve some credit.

Jets held them to 0 in 02. I don't think anyone was calling whoever that defensive coordinator was a genius back then.

you really are getting desperate when you have to make fun of someone's name to make yourself feel better...

Who said anything about making fun? I seriously can't tolerate the fact that the guy's name is Tedy. The way he is makes it worse.

but you like the way Hines Ward plays?

But you've yet to point out anything wrong he does when he plays. He's been fined I believe once in his career, while Harrison, well you know about him.

why, because it works?

Because it's so gimmicky and annoying. It doesn't always work.

why because hes a remarkable athlete and you wish you had someone of his caliber on your team? or because he ran a punt back in 2001 and you lost yet another champsionship game?

He's average at every position he plays too.

because you are stuck with cowher? or because he actually is?

Stuck with Cowher? I have no problem with having a coach that's won 8 division titles, something only 4 or 5 coaches have done in history. And hosting 5 out of 10 AFC championship games is pretty remarkable. Especially when you consider they were with Neil O'Donnell and Kordell Stewart leading your team. Oh, and now a rookie.

its better than the fake steelers one where buress hands the ball to some kid in the crowd.

Fake? I don't have a problem with that commercial, it's not entertaining, but it doesn't annoy me like Tom Brady and Madden sitting in a car together.

only people outside of new england call them that.

And that's exactly why I can't stand it.

manning didn't throw for 49 td's and wasn't annointed the greatest QB in the league in 02.

But you've yet to point out anything wrong he does when he plays. He's been fined I believe once in his career, while Harrison, well you know about him.

i don't need to point out anything he does, the players themselves voted him the 2nd dirtiest player in the league...

Because it's so gimmicky and annoying. It doesn't always work.

yes fake. that game against the pats was the game of the week last week on NFL Network and they showed that catch and he spikes the ball and walks of the field...they went back and re-shot the part where he hands it to the kid....i don't really have a problem with that though.

They still were a high scoring offense.

Yet there's no proof of this. The proof is right there for Harrison with all the fines he draws. If you can't find fault in Ward, then don't hang on to what some players say. Think for yourself.

Did you watch that SB, or were you too busy crying over how bad NE was that year? The Steelers dominated that game, O'Donnell threw it away with two of the worst interceptions in football history. I don't think that's Cowher's fault. His surprise onside kick in that game is one of the best calls ever in a SB. And considering the Patriots bombed in the SB the next year, you don't have any right to call people chokes.

It's not really that fake. It was the same damn game. I believe the footage of him handing it is from the TD he got off the fade (something I expect to see some more of this weekend). They just put it at the end of the nice play where Gay got burned.

1. harrison doesn't get fined as much any more because bellichick runs a tighter ship than SD did.
2. corey dillon was one of the most hated players in football because he got disrespected even though he was one of the best rushers in the game, this year he redeemed himself.
3. you're an idiot.
4. the patriots are going to beat the steelers on sunday and then all of a sudden you're going to become a fan of whatever NFC team is in the SB.

still_life

1. He's still the most fined player regardless. And he plays dirty still. That MNF game against KC was ridiculous. Instead of calling the obvious pass interference on NE when they were all over Gonzalez in the endzone, Harrison picks it off and they let it go.
2. That doesn't mean I hate him any less. Like I said, I hate him even more now
3. Talking to yourself after reading some of your old posts?
4. No, all of a sudden I'm going to not even want to watch the SB, because it'll be a terrible matchup.

actually, i did watch the game, and no they didn't dominate it. you can try and introduce a different arguement (the pats losing the following year) or you can simply admit that cohwer is a choke artist in the playoffs. besides how old were you when they played that superbowl, like 10?

thats what i'm saying, it wasn't the way it actually happened. he got the TD and spiked it and walked off the field. he didn't hand it to the kid. they either took a different clip of him handing it to him or they re-shot it and edited it together to look like it happened that way. regardless, i don't really care.

Don't worry how old I was, I remember it. Let's see, they held Smith to 49 yards, and Aikman only had 209 passing. They had more total yards and had the ball more, but those awful interceptions (especially the 2 to no one in sight) killed them. 14 points for Dallas came from those. How O'Donnell throwing awful passes is Cowher choking is beyond me. He called a good game. Kordell throws 6 INTs in two AFC champ. games and that's supposed to be Cowher choking? He deserves a lot of credit for even making 4 runs at the AFC Champ. with O'Donnell and Kordell Stewart as his QB. And now it's a rookie. Look at any year of the playoffs and you just about always get the best quarterbacks in the league in the games. Pittsburgh has been an exception to that rule since Cowher started coaching.

im obviously picking the eagles. why wouldnt i? but i love how everyone is just banking on the patriots winning. its very hard to win back to back SBs and its also hard to win 3 out of 4. the home team has won the past 4 or 5 SBs. These small intangibles favor the Eagles. Now Im not saying we got this in the bag, but I feel very confident in Reid preparing. We totally shut down the best rushing offense in the game and totally shutdown the greatest athlete to wear a football jersey (Vick). And no one can really say that we dont have the best secondary in the NFL, with 3 of the 4 guys goin to the Pro Bowl (and alot of people think Sheldon Brown should have gone too). So I think our secondary is gonna limit Brady passing. And now we dont have to deal with 3 rushers (Vick, Dunn, Duckett) we only have to concentrate on one (dillon). And the Patriots have not played the type of QB they are going to see. McNabb has started to use his legs alot more than he did all year.

Something tells me Eagles will win a very close battle.

There isn't a home team in the SB. And something tells me it's already scripted that the TE Philly just signed is going to catch a game tying TD with 1:30 to go in the 4th, and then the Patriots are going to get a FG and win again. Tom Brady will have some crap numbers like 17-29 for 154 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, and still win the MVP. 30-27 final.

What team is going to win? The Patriots. Why? Because they're a team in the greatest sense of the word. If you watched all the Super Bowl media day coverage on tv yesterday, you know exactly what I mean. And then when the Eagles are up there its the TO show and Freddie Mitchell is babbling about stupid stuff, etc. The Patriots get it done week in and week out however they have to, regardless of the situation. They're 31-2 in their last 33 games, they know how to beat everyone. Patriots win in a good one.

Did you just make that up? They're playing on neutral ground you fucking idiot. How is Jacksonville, Florida considered home for the Philadelphia Eagles? Considering the SB crowd is nothing but some family members and then a bunch of rich yuppies that know nothing about football, no team ever has homefield advantage in the SB. Bringing up the home team winning 4 of the past 5 is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Even Sean Salisbury, who's about as low as you can go on ESPN , hasn't mentioned that in the last week and a half. No one cares about that.

actually john clayton was the one who spewed that fact right after sunday's win. and it is a fact. there has to be a home team, if there wasnt who would call the coin flip? so the NFL has to designate a home and away team. and the "home" team this year is the eagles. last year the home team was the AFC and the patriots won. the year before it was the NFC and Tampa Bay one. Before that the AFC was the home team and NE won. so asshole, it is a fact. there has to be a home team. i never said anythign about home field advantage. you really dont know much about football if you didnt know this. your most likely just one of those playoff football fans, right?

the rog
02/03/05, 11:15 AM
umm... i really don't think there's much of a correllation between winning the coin flip and winning the game.

there isn't even that much of a correllation between winning the coinflip in OT and going on to win the game (the ratio is still just about 1:1)

if you really want to be a dick you could be like "OMFG THE AFC ONLY WINS WHEN THE GAME IS ON CBS AND THE NFC ONLY WINS WHEN IT'S ON FOX!" that means just as much as home field at a neutral site game.

home field advantage is something that really comes into play with such ideas as

1. crowd sound
2. field condition
3. weather condition
4. is it a dome? [see also 2 and 3]

the fact, and yes i'm sure it is a fact, that the team that called the coin flip has lost in 4 of the last 5 superbowls is inconsequential, it has little to nothing to do with football.

that is to say: there has been no study done which has shown CAUSAL proof that the coin flip in any way affects the final out come of the game. in a dome based game, the coin flip means nothing at all because then no one is even choosing which goal to defend.

still_life

It's irrelevant who the home team or away team is in the SB. If you actually think that's a reason the Eagles should win, then you better hope the Patriots get lost on the way to the stadium. It means nothing. You can't gauge the football knowledge of someone by not knowing about some irrelevant rule for one game a year. After the kickoff, none of this designated home team shit matters.

your most likely just one of those playoff football fans, right?

Don't flatter yourself. I'm sure you were another person that thought the Eagles were the best team in football 4 years in a row. The Philly choke is just getting delayed a game this year because of the terrible NFC teams.
