View Full Version : Storm Rages Over Harvard President's Remarks on Women
http://www.nytimes.com/reuters/news/news-life-harvard.html?oref=login
The latest controversy over Summers' remarks began on Friday when he offered some explanations for the small number of women at top levels of science and engineering, including one that suggested that there was a biological explanation to why men earned the top scores in math and science exams.
Do you have any proof to proove him wrong? If so please post it. Is it sexist if he's right? I'm not saying that i support his statements but maybe the issue should be looked into and we might find out something interesting...
But didn't they run tests before that have shown women to be the smarter of the two?
In these fields?
And he is making baseless claims. "..including one that suggested that there was a biological explanation to why men earned the top scores in math and science exams."
``I had hoped to stimulate research on the many interrelated factors that bear on women's careers in science,'' Summers said in his reply."
He's just throwing it out there...
And until someone PROVES these statements wrong then they are talking out of they're ass. Refusing to look into the matter because it's not PC is what's bullshit.

I would think the obvious answer as to why there are a small number of women in that field is the socialization of men and women in regards to what role they should play in society.
What fields?
science and engineering
But when you have the head of a university ( especially of that stature ) saying that women aren't at the top because supposedly they aren't as good as men in math and science, that's bullshit.
He suggested it. Now what did that do? We're talking about it now. We're discussing. People will investigate. Does this mean he thought that what he said was true? No. It means that he posed a question based on interesting statistics. Is that wrong? Should it be ignored?

Could you post the article? I don't have a subscription to the Times.

Horrible argument, the burden of proof is on him for saying it. By your way of thinking anyone could say anything and it would have to be taken as truth until proven wrong. Proof must be provided by the one making the outrageous claim.

Your ignoring the fact that this isn't necessarily his point of view. He noticed something: the top of the class in these areas were dominated by men. Why? He made a statement to cause discussion. Look at that, we're discussing it. Is this the way he feels? The women aren't as good as men? I don't think so. Was it out of line? That can be argued. He has come out and said that it came out wrong. He said something to prompt discussion and thats what he got.
He's not trying to prove a point more to just get people to think about it...

It's not baseless. Men have penis' it makes us inherently better.
Haha.
What about shemales?
They don't count. Gotta be born with it to make it count.
