Family Reunion
Family Guy sires super ratings for the network that once axed it

Cartoon Network said it best in an on-screen message before one of the commercial breaks during Sunday's Family Guy:

"Can you believe Fox ran Family Guy last Wednesday?
The ratings were pretty good for episodes that we have shown maybe 20 or 30 times (not counting TBS).
We remember when we told Fox that they should put Family Guy back on the air.
They said, 'Never gonna happen.'
We thought 'never gonna happen' was much longer than last Wednesday at 8 (7 pm Central)."

It's true. Every half hour of the four-episode minimarathon of Family Guy that aired on Fox ranked among the top 20 shows of the week in viewers 18 to 34. (They apparently didn't mind the Bush-era bleeping and blurring of the show's content. How times have changed.)

Fox's performance in that advertiser-prized demographic was better than CBS and ABC combined on that night, which was dominated by NBC's Summer Olympics coverage.

Makes you wonder what Fox suits were thinking by pulling Family Guy off the air in 2002 after several years of bouncing around the schedule in several tough time periods. (It always belonged behind The Simpsons on Sunday.)

It's been a hit on Cartoon Network since it joined the channel's smartly packaged "Adult Swim" lineup of late-night adult animated fare. All four episodes that aired last week ranked in Nielsen's top 50 cable shows (as they frequently have throughout the summer). On July 14, the show drew 1.1 million 18- to 34-year-olds, a record for the channel. It's also been one of the biggest DVD hits for a TV series, with over a million box sets sold.

Luckily Family Guy has supporters in the current occupants of the executive suite at Fox. They have wisely ordered up another 35 episodes (which Cartoon Network will also have the rights to). As of now, the first batch is scheduled to start running in May 2005.

You've got to believe that the pent-up desire of fans of the Griffin clan to see new Family Guy episodes will make it the most anticipated show for young viewers in years. That could make a difference for Fox as it battles NBC for the season lead in viewers 18 to 49 — or, as Stewie Griffin would call it, "world domination."

May we also suggest that Fox think about running one of the new Family Guy episodes after the Super Bowl in February. Right now, Family Guy creator Seth McFarlane's new series, American Dad, is scheduled to get the slot. But an original Family Guy would be the kind of TV event that could keep all those beer-soaked young men on the couch through the interminable post-game show. Brian, the Griffin family dog, would drink to that.

FOX is probably the biggest hit or miss television station out of any of them. And they had a hit with family guy, they just gave it such bad times that of course it was going to be cancelled eventually.

but hey...another anti-republican show on fox..I'm all for that.

I will say that the raccoon leaping out of shit is absolutely unbelievably funny. And the part where the car and horse get run off the road and the car blows up, then so does the buggy, then so does the horse....is fucking amazing. I laugh so hard every time I put that in and watch that episode.

wish upon a weinstein is pretty funny! and the one were lois' dad's dog has puppies with ted turner's head on them, that one is great too. oh and the weiner is... is pretty funny too. god so many of them are funny.

"like a bisexual?"-ted turner
"yes, ted that was the joke"-michael eisner

I love the Nigel Pinchley one, where the Drunken Clam is bought by that English guy. It's such an amazing episode.

"Do you know what's really funny?"
"What?"
"Men in women's clothing."
"Right good laugh right there."

"Hey, I thought you guys weren't supposed to move!?"
"No, that's only our women."

11/05/04, 02:22 PM
my favorite episode is Peter Goes to Washington (i think that's what it's called). the one where he becomes the tobacco lobbyist. honestly, i think i love almost every episode but if i had to choose a favorite, this would be it. mainly because of my favorite joke on there:

"i can say the names of all 50 states in a quarter of a second. ACKJDFLJG!"

i think the worst episode though, is the one where Peter wants to joust at the renaissance festival. it's the only episode where i barely laughed.

yea i agree family is freakin hiliarous and it is truly hard to pick a favorite one... i luv it how it is on tv now like on tbs twice and cartoon network at like 1100 its tight... I like when they go down south under witness protection and the one where there was toad licking hahahha...

11/06/04, 02:54 AM
I love them all so much!! plus Australia hasnt got season three on DVD yet :(

The funniest episode i can thing of is called "hes too sexy for his fat", where peter gets plastic surgery. One funny bit: chris is at the supermarket and some guy asks him if hes stealing hams- "hey, hes not stealing hams, he's just a fat kid!! arent ya, fatty fat fat fatty! want a chocolate bar, fatty?" Or, at the pool "Uh, sir, you cant park your van on the diving board", "thats not a van, thats my son!"

I love Family Guy, before I left home I bought all three season on dvd. Best purchase ever..... my favorite scene is when Peter gets into the fight with the chicken that gave him a bad coupon...haha... when they get on the bridge and the chicken falls on the truck and then the truck goes back under the bridge again and Peter jumps on... man...that whole scene is hilarious

So far I have heard they have 20 new episodes planned for Season 4, to be played sometime 2005 (Summer is projected).

OH, and and before they show the eps, they are doing a FG "miniseries" (and yes, it is the rumoured "Family Guy Movie" just broken into parts). I can tell you it is focusing on Stewie...

cptn_crunch
11/06/04, 04:41 PM
i'd have to say my favorite is the one where they all get put in the witness protection program. so many funny things: chris thinks he's going gay, peter and brian as drunk sheriff's, /peter correcting the civil war reinactment, the general lee paint job on the station wagon, the F.B.I telling where the griffins were, the raccoon. but my absolute favorite part is when the F.B.I agents tell peter they're being relocated to the south and peter says: "is that where the black people are lazy and the white people are mad at the black people for being lazy because they're even lazier?", or something to the tune of that.
any episode with stewie is a great one (guess that means all of em)favorite stewie quote: "well i'd love to stay and chat, but you're a total bitch."

funniest scene ever is when peter is pretending to play the piano in the toy store and this guy is like wow your good then realizes he's faking and follows him throughout the show calling him a phony.

" Hey your not really playing, your just a big fat phony" strange man
" C'mon Chris" Peter

everyone likes family guy cause all of it's humor is retarded and risque...kinda like it's fanbase. It's the truth, no point in denying it. I like the show but it gets far too much attention than it deserves. The Simpsons started the trend and family guy "modernized" it I guess. Oh well, whatever floats your boat.

that's respectable. I don't like the people who bash the simpsons since the simpsons have to be PC...ya it's not "punk" to do the "right" thing but it takes a lot more skill to be PC and still be funny which is something Family Guy could never do. Don't really think they perfected it...I think they took elements from the simpsons and rejuvinated the retarded humor trend and that's why it's so successful.

all in all...good show...some of the fans can be annoying (seriously, I don't need to know that Peter Griffin would think something is "friggin' sweet!")

This is, in my opinion, the best show to ever hit television. Anyways, so here's where you can post your favourite quotes from the show. Some of mine are:

Peter: Oh my god, Brian, there's a message in my Alphabits. It says, 'Oooooo.'
Brian: Peter, those are Cheerios.

Meg: I just want to kill myself I'm gonna go upstairs and eat a whole bowl of peanuts.
(Lois and Peter stare in silence)
Meg: I'm alergic to peanuts.
(Peter and Lois keep staring)
Meg: You dont know anything about me. (runs upstairs)
Peter: Who was that guy?

Peter: Lois, you've got a sick mind!
Lois: Peter, I'm talking about making love.
Peter: Oh, I thought you wanted us to murder the children and harvest their organs for beer money.

Lois: Together we can do anything: face any foe, overcome any obstacle.
Peter: Yeah, climb any mountain, rent any video, dial any phone. And not just our phone, Lois, other people's phones. Decent phones, God-fearing phones, phones that everybody else gave up on, but we knew better because we were a team!
Brian: What the hell are you talking about?

Peter: Excuse me, is your refrigerator running?
Because if it is, it probably runs like you - very homosexually.

Sales Man : now, you can take the free boat OR the mistery box
Peter : oh well that's easy... we'll take the mistery box!
Lois : PETER!!!!
Peter : Common Lois, a boat is just a boat, but the mistery box could be anything..it could even be a boat! we've always wanted a boat!

( mistery box = tickets to a comedy club )

at the comedy club
Peter : COMMON SKINNY MAKE ME LAUGH!
Lois : Peter, thats a microphone stand.
Peter : Well EXCUSE ME for thinking a microphone stand at a comedy club should tell a joke or 2, i guess i'm just old fashioned that way!

Lois: Peter, that's not you. That's not even a yearbook, it's a People magazine.
Peter: Oh, I wondered why they had the wrong picture and name.

Brian: Hola, me Ilamo es brian ... Nosotros caramos ir condustedes.. uhhhh ...
Bellboy(spanish): Hey, that was pretty good, except when you said "me llamo es Brian," you don't need the "es," just me llamo Brian.
Brian: Oh, oh you speak english
Bellboy (sigh): No, just that first speech and this one explaining it.
Brian: You .... you're kidding me, right?
Bellboy(spanish): Que?

Lois: Peter, why would they make you presidesnt?
Peter: Maybe it's because I can recite all 50 states in a quarter of a second - RARF!
Lois: Peter, that was just a loud yelping noise.

Stewie: There's always been a lot of tension between Lois and me, and it's not so much that I want to kill her, it's just, I want her not to be alive anymore.

Olivia: You are the weakest link, goodbye. (laughter)
Stewie: Ha ha ha! Oh gosh that's funny! That's really funny! Do you write your own material? Do you? Because that is so fresh. You are the weakest link goodbye. You know, I've, I've never heard anyone make that joke before. Hmm. You're the first. I've never heard anyone reference, reference that outside the program before. Because that's what she says on the show right? Isn't it? You are the weakest link goodbye. And, and yet you've taken that and used it out of context to insult me in this everyday situation. God what a clever, smart girl you must be, to come up with a joke like that all by yourself. That's so fresh too. Any, any Titanic jokes you want to throw at me too as long as we're hitting these phenomena at the height of their popularity. God you're so funny!

Peter: And Joe, I've had new neighbors before, but none of them were half the man you are. Since you're half a man already, that splits them into some kind of fraction I can't even measure.

Lois: What's going on down here?
Stewie: Oh, we're playing house.
Lois: That boy's all tied up.
Stewie: Roman Polanski's house

Peter: Woah! Is that really the blood of Christ?
Priest: Yes.
Peter: Man, that guy must have been wasted 24 hours a day, huh?

Trisha Takinawa: To conclude our coverage this week on the topic of sex I am now going to have sex with a man that I just met in a bar. He is in the bathroom right now probably shooting up as we speak.
*Quagmeyer jumps into bed*
Quagmeyer: Hey, I've never been with a Spanish chick before. Ole!

Peter: Hey trees, when one of you falls over do you ever make a sound?
Tree #1: Are you kidding? Scott fell down last week and hasn't shut up about it since.
Scott: Oh sure complain about it, but does anyone help me!?!?

Stewie: His heart rate is starting to pick up they're either doing the nasty or he's watching Batman.
*cut to Peter laying on the bed with the Batman theme song playing in the background*

Cleveland: Oh Quagmeyer, your what the Spanish call el terible.

beginning Sunday, May 1 at 9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT The night it should have been on all along.

*what a great night for TV; Simpsons, American Dad, Family Guy, and Arrested Development!!

From 20th Century Fox:
http://www.freezedriedmovies.com/news/index.php?Action=Full&NewsID=2069

Family Guy is back by popular demand with all-new episodes beginning Sunday, May 1 (9:00-9:30 PM ET/PT) on FOX, it was announced today by Gail Berman, President, Entertainment for the Fox Broadcasting Co.

Since its debut in 1999, the Emmy-nominated animated series has attracted an impressively loyal following of devoted fans and has sold over 3.5 million combined DVD units, making it the fourth-largest TV series seller ever.

Creator/executive producer Seth MacFarlane will continue to serve up the distinctively twisted and irreverently outrageous trials and tribulations of Peter Griffin (MacFarlane) and his not-quite-so-average family of middle-class New Englanders. Lois (Alex Borstein) is Peter's loving wife, who struggles to maintain a modicum of normalcy in their home life. Then there are their kids: angst-ridden, 16-year-old Meg (Mila Kunis), who only really wants to be noticed; 13-year-old Chris (Seth Green), a sweet-natured slacker; and 1-year-old Stewie (MacFarlane), a diabolically clever baby who's already bent on world domination. Rounding out the Griffin household is Brian (MacFarlane), the brainy family pooch who likes his martinis as dry as his Mighty Dog.

Family Guy is a 20th Century Fox Television production. Seth MacFarlane is creator/executive producer with David A. Goodman as executive producer/showrunner, and Chris Sheridan as executive producer.

Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising Expands Family Guy Product Line-up after Impressive Launch at Retail

(Graphic: Business Wire)

CENTURY CITY, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 3, 2005--
New Partners Take-Two Interactive Software and Airborne Entertainment Sign On For An Impressive Campaign To Coincide With New Series Launch This Spring

Twentieth Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising today announced the expansion of the thriving Family Guy licensing and merchandising program through two new agreements with video game industry giant Take-Two Interactive Software and wireless content leader Airborne Entertainment. Take-Two has the rights to produce all-new video games for multiple platforms under the 2K Games label, while Airborne Entertainment will introduce new mobile phone content that will feature everyone's favorite dysfunctional animated family, The Griffins. The licensing and merchandising program for Family Guy continues to prosper thanks to a fanatical fan base that has contributed to heavy sales of licensed merchandise and incredible DVD sales that have far exceeded expectations with more than 3 million units sold to date.

"Family Guy is totally unique in the licensing business having found its 'sweet spot' the second time around", said Peter Byrne, Executive Vice President of Fox Licensing and Merchandising. "There's an insatiable demand for merchandise currently, but we are taking a very long term view of building Family Guy into a major franchise for the studio on multiple levels".

The new agreement with Take-Two's 2K Games will introduce the Griffins to gamers everywhere with a new video game title for multiple platforms. In the game, being developed as a third person action/adventure, players will take on the role of multiple characters such as Stewie, Brian the Dog, and Peter, the hapless patriarch, as they interact with many of the citizens of Quahog. The Family Guy video game is slated for release in 2006.

"Take-Two has unparalleled experience in reaching what is the core Family Guy demo and we are really excited to be collaborating with them on bringing the Griffins to the gaming community," said Mr. Byrne.

In addition, Fox's deal with Airborne Entertainment will allow fans to download an ever-expanding array of wallpapers, wireless games, applications and animated ringers directly to their mobile phones. Family Guy wireless content will be available this spring in anticipation of the show's re-launch on primetime FOX May 1st. Additional Family Guy products from Airborne Entertainment will be released throughout the year and will reflect the themes and events of specific episodes.

"Airborne Entertainment is at the cutting edge of wireless entertainment and share the true vision of the show. The great thing with wireless is that you can have an on-going dialogue with the consumer, which plays into the relevancy of Family Guy in the everyday lives of its fans," said Mr. Byrne.

With an impressive launch into specialty stores in September '04, the merchandising program has held the No. 1 spot for months on end, reinforcing Fox's commitment to the brand. The initial product launch with licensing partners Gemmy, Kelly Toy, Mezco and Aquarius has established a foundation for Family Guy product at retail as Fox prepares for a more expansive product launch this Spring. The massive licensing and merchandising program on tap will coincide with the new series launch for Family Guy on May 1st, and is expected to be one of the company's largest product blitzes to date. Family Guy products can currently by found in Hot Topic, Borders, Barnes & Noble, Calendar Club, Spencer's and Musicland.

The current Family Guy licensing roster includes:

Premiering Sunday, February 6 in the coveted post-Superbowl time period on Fox, is "American Dad", the latest irreverent offering from the multitalented Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy. "American Dad" is an animated series about an over-the-top CIA agent and his family. "American Dad" will return full time to the Fox schedule following the triumphant return of Family Guy, every Sunday night beginning May 1.

ABOUT FAMILY GUY

Heading up the eclectic Family Guy household is Peter Griffin, a big, boisterous, lovable oaf who isn't afraid to say what's on his freakin' mind -- usually the wrong thing at exactly the wrong time. He lives in Quahog, Rhode Island with his wife, Lois, and their three children -- Chris, Meg and Stewie, a brilliant, sadistic baby bent on destroying the world. And, don't forget Peter's well-spoken, cynical best friend, Brian, the family dog. Executive producer/creator Seth MacFarlane has the distinction of being the youngest person to be an executive producer. Family Guy debuted after the Superbowl in 1999, and in 2004, Family Guy made television history when Fox ordered the previously canceled show back into production due to its extraordinary fan support in both DVD sales and repeat broadcasts on Cartoon Network's 'Adult Swim'.

The talented voice cast includes: Seth MacFarlane (as Peter Griffin, Brian Griffin, Stewie Griffin and more), Alex Borstein (as Lois Griffin), Seth Green (as Chris Griffin), and Mila Kunis (as Meg Griffin).

i'm in love with the fact that a few years ago when they cancelled my favorite show, i never thought i'd see it again, then through the emerging internet, bootleg dvd's leaked, then fox put out a good version of the series, then it made it onto late late cartoon network, then they got uncancelled, and now, 2 months to the day before it's back, it's on every time i flip to cartoon network, tbs, or fox, and they're talking video game. it's nice to finally win one.

These are some of my favorites(there's a shitload because I'm bored):

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Peter: I'm gonna go microwave a bagel and have sex with it.
Quagmire: Butter's in the fridge!

Peter: At least they don't put their feminine ointments next to the mustard, Lois. That was the worst hot dog I ever ate.

Peter: Lois, I'm gonna grow a beard.
Lois: Peter, you know I hate beards ...
Peter: No no Lois, it's time I joined the ranks of great men with beards. Why do you think Jesus Christ was so popular? Cause ... cause of all the magic tricks?

Brian: You want some ice cream?
Stewie: No.
Brian: You want some McDonalds?
Stewie: No.
Brian: You want to take a dump in Mother Maggie's shoes?
Stewie: Yeah.
Brian: Okay, let's go and take a dump in Mother Maggie's shoes.

Brian: Hey, you know what might be a thrill for you guys?
Chris: Ooh, ooh, eating a pebble!

Lois: Brian, you're home early. What happened with your date?
Brian: The same thing that always happens, she was an idiot.

Stewie: There's always been a lot of tension between Lois and me, and it's not so much that I want to kill her, it's just, I want her not to be alive anymore.

Stewie: Let me guess, you picked out yet another colorful box with a crank that I'm expected to turn and turn until OOP! big shock, a jack pops out and you laugh and the kids laugh and the dog laughs and I die a little inside.

Stewie: I was under the impression the name of the show was "Kids Say the Darndest Things," not "Old Black Comedians Never Shut the Hell Up."

Stewie's Letter: Dear stupid dog, I've gone to live with the children on jolly farm. Good bye forever. Stewie.
P.S. I never got a chance to return that sweater Lois gave me for Christmas. Umm, I left the receipt on top of my bureau. I'm probably over the thirty day return limit but umm… I'm sure if you make a fuss they'll at least give you a store credit or something. Umm.. It's actually not a horrible sweater. It's... It's just I can't imagine when I would ever wear it you know? Oh I also left a button on the bureau. I'm not sure what it goes to, but I can never bring myself to throw a button away. I know that as soon as I do I'll find the garment it goes to and then it'll… Wait a minute, could it be from the sweater? Did that sweater have buttons? Hmm… Well I should wrap this up before I start to ramble. Again, goodbye forever.
P.P.S. You know, it might be a little chilly in London, I'm actually going to take the sweater.

Meg: Everybody! Guess what I am?
Stewie: Hm, the end result of a drunken back-seat grope-fest and a broken prophylactic?

Stewie: You know, mother, this could almost have passed for a palatable banana pudding, but without Nilla wafers it's just another one of your wretched culinary abortions. Now clean it up!

Meg: Can I be in the play, Mom?
Stewie: Oh yes, you can be the dumpy teenage girl who cries backstage because no one finds her attractive.

Eliza: Ew, your breath smells like kitty litter.
Stewie: I was curious!

there's one quote that I don't remember which episode it's from, but Peter is remembering when he goes on a field trip to a museum and the conversation goes something like this:

Peter: Why'd all the dinosaurs die?
Teacher: Because you touch yourself at night.

Not for a full production for a live show. Sometimes shows on Broadway are on for years before they even start to turn a real profit.
