I thought the new album was essentially the same as the past work. My brother had music choice on and I wasn't paying attention and said, "What is this, Shai Hulud?" Turns out it was.

I'm not liking it nearly as much as Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion and A Profound Hatred Of Man...this could be time spent...but I don't like the new vocalist as much, and the production is super slick. I'm not against very produced albums, I just don't like it for them.

Not that much really. I think maybe $13 or so for the LP's. Maybe a little bit more.

hmm. ok. but i don't follow trends? i just listen to what i think sounds good and i like get rad.
i listened to since by man, not my thing, but they certainly don't like sound stereotypical metalcore ala norma jean, unearth, etc etc.
either way, i like get rad, and i also like lords. i could careless about being hip or "with it", which is something you seem a bit to concerned about. it's one thing to not like a band, but to not like them because they hop on a trend, whatever.

On Tour! - Pissing on the audience! - New Record!
Hi all,
1. So we're on tour right now...sorry for getting the memo out late...the dates are posted on the myspace site...NYC has been updated with current information too..
2. It was recently brought to my attention that there is some sort of controversy over a urination incident that happened in Covington Ky a couple of years ago.
As we arrive at Dude Fest and are unloading our gear out back, we're approached by a couple of people asking me if I had pissed on some one....apparently the band Get Rad (who were currently playing on stage) were shit talking us on stage...something about scene unity and how they didn't piss on their fans like "some other band who's playing later, and their name rhymes with swords..."
Anyway, this is all second hand information to me...so I don't know verbatim what was said...but here is what REALLY happened in Covington that day:
-The line up was, in order: Russian Circles, Lords, Since By Man and Daughters.
-There were about 15 people in attendance.
-I had had a really shitty day, the details of which are interesting but irrelevant to this story. Alexis, the singer from daughters, was also not enjoying himself for a variety of reasons.
- Before the Daughters set Alexis asked me to do something fucked up to him while they were playing....I ask him if I can pee on him, he says "yeah, just piss in my hands".
- At some part of one of their songs when Alexis doesn't sing I get up on stage, pull my dick out, Alexis gets on his knees and cups his hands...then I piss in his hands....Alexis then proceeds to throw the piss accumulating in his hands on the audience...
- about 10 or so of the maybe 15 people watching run out of the way...but a hand full of teenage boys up front are in to it and cheer on.
This is exactly what happened.
Apparently one of the members of Get Rad was also in Since By Man, and got pee on him that night....and this is what their Dude Fest stage bantor (and from what I hear some stupid kiddy internet message board soap opera also) was about...I don't see what the big deal is...haven't you punk rockers seen Hated?
Why homeboy from Get Rad/Since By Man didn't confront me or Alexis in person two years ago when this happened and we were all in the same room together...I don't know. Because that's what I would have done if I had a problem with something some one did...but that's just me...what the fuck do I know about anything anyway.
To be clear, I did not piss on any member of the audience. I pissed on my friend who gave me permission to piss on him. Alexis want's to make sure that he gets the credit for the "so not cool" deed of throwing the piss on the audience...after all, he is the wild and crazy guy...I'm just a christian hating asshole.
So dude from Get Rad, and anyone else who's still sore about getting pee on them and wants to file a back dated complaint can send it to Alexis from Daughters...I'm sure he will be very sympathetic to your cause and write you a long sincere apology letter.
3. "Fuck All Yall Mother Fuckers" is finally almost out...when ever stan can get the templates for the layout to open then we can get a release date...which should be in august. Check out the Black Market Activities web site for details

FIXED.
I care about when another band points out the stupidity of one band trying to fuel drama. But I guess that is what Hardcore is about in 2008. Scene unity and the dislike of bands that like to have fun.

no dude, i think that's two bands involved in stupid shit out of how many millions of other hardcore bands out there?
this is hardcore. there is always drama and stupid, ridiculous shit in hardcore. always has been. "scene unity" is a ridiculous term and idea as well. because there are so many different types of hardcore and so many different hardcore scenes all over the world fueling millions of different perspectives. you really can't the ENTIRE hardcore scene unified.
i don't care what get rad says about lords. or their scene unity bullshit. i like their music. that's all. i'll even go out on a limb and say i like lords a lot more. they're way more musically advanced than get rad, thats for for.
just don't get caught up in the dumb shit. this is why i am not into hardcore anymore. because it got to be too...ridiculous. not to mention all the tough guy-macho posi boy bullshit. i can only hear the word "gay" or "f a g" so often before i start to get annoyed.

Face it its been over and dead for years. All the good bands broke up 15 years ago and the bands that are that old are just doing it for a paycheck. when it did come back to life around 2000 it came back with stroke like symptoms then immediatly died when people started putting little prefixes in front of the core. And when did it become the rule for everyone involved in hardcore to be straight edge? Cro-mags? used to drop acid before shows. Murphey's Law? used to Smoke dust in Tompkins Square Park before going to CB's. I'm not an advocate of either but I would like to have a smoke and a pint while checking out one of my favorite bands without some 19 yr old kid who tells me he's been Edge for 9 years trying to fight me

oh jesus, not this shit. this is the same thing as someone saying punk is over and has been dead for years. hardcore, punk, indie rock, underground rock changes all the time. to deny that we don't live in constant flux, to deny that every form of music can change or progress(not in every case) is complete bullshit. i don't want to hear about your glory days. sorry.
punk will never die and neither will hardcore. if you don't like what you are hearing now, maybe that's telling you something...that this music, this sound, this band or that band, is for this generation.
oh and the cro-mags fucking sucked. so did murphy's law. and fuck minor threat. fugazi was way better. 90% of the old bands were just boring. except for black flag. and redd krossssss. and the germs.

and i don't think it's tightly defined or structured at all. it's a lot like punk.
i mean, shit, from what i read, you had bands like butthole surfers, husker du, etc...and none of those bands sounded like say deep wound or agnostic front or fucking minor threat.
ugh. this conversation gets old everytime. i don't care what you or any other motherfucker thinks about hardcore not being as "good as it used to be" or "not relevant" or "never going anywhere".
the spirit, ethics, etc will never die. same with punk. indepedent/underground music will always be there.

I already said this.
I also love when that kids trendy hardcore band opens up for a more known hardcore act he dick rides the shit out of them before even playing the show. Hilarious.
Get the fuck over yourself, dude. I didn't ride anybody's dick. I don't even like Bane that much and honestly didn't even put much effort into getting out of work for this show. However, I'd like to have at least one show in Milwaukee this month have a halfway decent turnout. I've seen Wisconsin kids in this forum and it'd be cool to see one of them at a show.
For the record, I don't even like my band that much and I certainly don't give a shit whether or not you do either. I don't know why you think it's such a burn when you attempt to call me out on my band being trendy. It's funny and it's what I've come to expect from you; you're just some cynical, flatbrim-wearing message board kid with a septum piercing. Time to realize you're just 21 and too young to think you're some jaded hardcore dad.
About Get Rad, I know them personally, and I was saying that if you knew them personally, you probably wouldn't say any of those things about them. Fuck Sincebyman, but honestly, who gives a fuck about drama between other bands? Tools like you, that's pretty much it.
And did I even say anything about Lords? No. I like them too and couldn't care less about whatever the shit is that they post in their myspace bulletins.
I cannot believe how many stupid fucking people there are in this forum
Moral: Lords rules. Get Rad sucks.
And that includes you. You miss the point of nearly every post you quote from anybody. You're just some overly sensitive joke who tries to flex his dick the only way he knows how - online and behind an alias. And it's obvious just by looking at your post count. The only reason you notice all the "stupid shit" people say is that you completely ignore the bottom lines of any statement anybody else makes.

He Is Legend are fucking terrible. They're the worst band live. They'll always have one "hit" song, "I Am Hollywood" and even that song wasn't that great. When they did play it live, they acted like such dicks about playing that song and their other stuff from that album.

I was intrigued by people making a Suicide File/Modern Life is War (as I like both bands) comparison, so I had to listen, even from unbiased account for just the music itself and not for their image/backstory/prior work I still do not hear said comparisons. I must be getting old, I don't know. I just found it weird/odd. Their still alive, just hospitalized. The story goes that the two muggers told them to give up all their stuff, and the guy and girl put their stuff on the ground, and as the muggers bent down to pick it up, the guy kneed the one with the gun in the face. I'm not liking it nearly as much as Hearts Once Nourished With Hope And Compassion and A Profound Hatred Of Man...this could be time spent...but I don't like the new vocalist as much, and the production is super slick. I'm not against very produced albums, I just don't like it for them.I'm not keen on the new album. I only listened to it a couple of times and I've not played it since. Some of the new songs sounded reasonably good live though.
Anyone like UK Hardcore?
There are some pretty good bands right now, like Dirty Money, More Than Life, The Steal etc.Your Demise, Dead Swans, Fast Point, Honour Among Thieves.

I specifically said to get started for that reason particularly. Those bands are good places to start because they're the 10 most popular bands in hardcore right now. I know, right? Hahaha.
It def did have an image, that was the point. For hardcore kids to identify with other hardcore kids and for them to be recognized as a force not to be reckoned with.
Shaved heads, bandannas, chains, ripped jeans, combat/work boots, flannel shirts, homemade band t-shirts...
they wanted to be seen as a gang. different. i mean, how else would you explain the whole fucking Seattle thing that happened?
flannel shirts, ripped jeans...loud, angry punk...

I am pretty sure more people listen to Hatebreed now than in the 90s. lol
I was talking more of the Supertouch, Into Another, Underdog era.
I am just not a fan of the shit now.
bands doing rec releases for 10 shows on 10 different vinyl variations in the rarest form and the dumbest colors.
rare variations for each summer fest. etc etc
all fucking hype. all stupid. it's to the point where kids don't even go anymore to see the LIVE show. They go their for the merch line to grab the limited stuff then go home.
that's lame.
this is probably why i stopped being into hardcore in the first place.

It sounds like your scene just blows then.
We don't have the best bands play around here, but almost everybody goes to watch the band, it's all about the music. Not the new gear you can buy.

it's not just his scene. it's a pretty wide ranging problem. i mean here i've seen some local hardcore bands have like a million different shirt designs before they even had an album or toured at all. it's ridiculous, and our hardcore scene is basically just a bunch of people starting out who haven't even reached the status of a band that people would want to be merch whores with. i've been to shows where people pay the cover, walk in, buy merch and then leave. it sucks since i'd think some of the hardcore bands here have a lot of potential, but they probably won't be able to reach it because they're going to be stuck in this ghetto of obsessing over hype bands and not giving a shit about the younger bands.
the uniform aspect he was referring to is especially ridiculous. i've seriously gone to shows where 3/4 of the crowd are wearing the same Have Heart hoodies, and most of the other 1/4 were wearing Cold World shit. it's all hype, hype, hype. i mean i dress like the stereotypical dude in a band (jeans, slightly obscure band shirts etc) but when everyone's wearing the exact same shirts, it's kind of weird.

If I saw someone pay the cover, buy merch, and then leave I would probably have the urge to hit them. That is pathetic. It's true, most bands love having a massive array of shirt designs. I don't necessarily blame them, because that is kind of how they survive on the road, but it should never become about buying a t-shirt. My scene may have a shitty taste in music, but atleast they all care about the music they're into.
I think you should still be able to go to shows and actually have a good time and watch the music you love though, even if most of the people there are perverting hardcore.

yeah but he's saying he's seen bands that don't tour nor have ever toured with a bunch of shirt designs. yeah I can understand how more mainstream hardcore bands have a lot of shirts at shows because they have to support themselves on tour, but for a local hardcore band who doesn't tour to have that, its really dumb.

well yeah if you already like the band it's not that hard, but it is hard to get into newer bands when the scene is like this because you begin to want less and less involvement with it.

i guess, i just don't care actually.
i like a lot of newer hardcore bands that i've heard, but mostly, i just don't care anymore.
hardcore is just not what it used to be to me anymore. i just don't get the same enjoyment out of listening to someone yell, scream, holler, or shout about things that just aren't relevant to me.
though, i do still listen to limp wrist. for obvious reasons. hahaha.

That what I was trying to say. I am not old or anything, but even listening to people older then me that liked the genre or watching uploaded videos on youtube and compare it to the bands in the genre presently, it is definitely different. I do not enjoy the fact that bands in this genre need special pressings for Sound and Fury then This is Hardcore then an East Coast Rec release and a West Coast one, then one in fucking Japan, how about Brazil, and it's fucking stupid to the point where kids KNOW the band is printing shit special for that show, they will go there to stand in the merch line, buy whatever is limited before it sells out and then make sure it stays safe so either leave and put in their car or go home and put it in their room to either flip, collect, trade, etc. Nobody is going to stand and watch the rest of a show where kids move around while having to hold/keep safe fucking special colored vinyl out of /50 or a limited shirt for the show. You'd be crazy.

I don't know, maybe its because I have no comparison to what it used to be.
But growing up in hardcore right now, I have to say I'm pretty happy with it.

it's totally not the same. generally speaking, the people from the old days come from completely different environments than people in the new days. it's totally becoming (or already become, like i said i'm out of it) a genre for kids in the suburbs, which explains all this super rare vinyl bullshit that you're talking about.

i don't want to sound like a dick but, you are 16. I think that is a big part of why you say what you're saying. i wouldn't call it ignorance as much as i'd call it youth. i mean, how long have you been going to shows? i remember when i was younger i was stoked to go to any show ever. the older i got, and the more shows i went to, the higher my standards have become.
i wouldn't call myself jaded, i still average a show a week (not counting the ones i play), but i think there comes a time in people's lives where they start to look at things and go "is this it? shouldn't there be more to this?" especially when you get more educated about the history of hardcore and think about all the cool stuff that was going down in DC during the 80s or jersey-new york in the 90s.

I saw a Converge shirt in Hot Topic while waiting for my friend who works there to go have lunch. That was strange. Completely random comment that had nothing to do with anything you guys were talking about :P. They didn't sell any though. Usually the bands like Sky Eats Airplane and such only have one left in XXL.

i have gotten kinda of bored with a lot of the new hype bands, granted i actually like a lot of them.this past year i started to listen to a lot of 90's hardcore, especially stuff from my area, and it helps me not get bored. Sucks 95% of them have broken up though. I want to go to the Trial reunion show so bad. It makes me wish i was older/into hardcore in the 90's.

Yeah, I also saw Bad Brains. That was kind of odd. I had to do a double take.
Hot Topic holds a lot of Bridge 9/Deathwish Inc releases/bands. They get huge push in that store just as much as the scene bands on Victory, Equal Vision, Rise Records etc etc do, so don't let it fool you really.
One of the guys in the music department at Hot Topic headquarters was in some sort of credible late 90s hardcore band, but I forget which one, needless to say, that's why you see the Minor Threats to Verse shit all over that store now.
Plus that play list is absolutely filled with elitist shit. Last I worked there the rotation was something like Bear Vs Shark, The Ocean, Cult of Luna, Have Heart, Trash Talk... compared to when I started there in 2005 when it was just your run of the mill scenester metalcore jams all the time.
Don't let that place fool you it carries all the shit you guys like just as much as the stuff you hate.

here hot topic is like the only store that carries more than like three punk records (unless you feel like way overpaying) which sucks, but it's the midwest so whatever. i've still only heard one good song while being there (the descendants) but that probably has more to do with who's working at the time than anything else.
yes, it also has a factor on what kind of employees the store near you has. but trust me their is just as much good music as their is bad. so if you hear shitty music, chances are the employees working have a shitty fucking taste. (or just the manager in charge)

oh and now i'm starting to notice the trend you are speaking of...i guess i just didn't notice before because i didn't care, but like the local central pa scene is nothing but metalcore and metal and hardcore bands...the hardcore bands they have now are like lion of judah and they have youngbloods fests and i think they even did a pre-this is hardcore fest...and the kids in colorful clothes all showed up....in their have heart hoodies. wow. i never noticed it before! hahahahaha.
trends are fun to watch. it's so weird!

i remember a few years ago when i was so jealous of anyone in one of those bane hoodies...
and then i realized bane really wasn't that great. haha. i saw them live.
central pa is the worst though. it's all about trends and money. we had a great firehall and basement scene. it was a lot of punk rock, but mostly really diverse. and then bands like taking back sunday blew up and the direction changed...and then hardcore/metalcore started to become cool and that changed as well. now, it's all these bands who are trying to be underoath and norma jean. or it's a bunch of pop punk and hardcore bands. nothing original and nothing new. sucks so bad.
i had to get out of there. i saw a lot of great bands back home and it was all cool for awhile, but then it got to be stupid and ridiculous. 14 year old kids just don't seem too interested in looking and discovering new music or even older music...
