this indeed sucks. hey mercedes came out with some great records.
they broke up cuse they were losing money.(not just that, but it was a big factor) barely anyone bought the records. they went on tour..and actually lost money. i know its not all about the money. but ya know...you cant keep doing all this and spending more money than you have. it sucks. I talked to Damon about it(the drummer)...and he says it was for the best. Things will be alright.

either way if bob nanna continues to make music, it will be all good.

Great band, very underrated. That's really dissapointing news.
dunno if anyone cares. But I know for sure Damon will be on filling in for drummers, and being the head drum technician on an upcoming Vagrant Tour.

WOW, is all I have to say to that.
they broke up cuse they were losing money.(not just that, but it was a big factor) barely anyone bought the records. they went on tour..and actually lost money. i know its not all about the money. but ya know...you cant keep doing all this and spending more money than you have. it sucks. Yeah this fucking sucks and I hope that things will be alright and we get more music from the members of the band in other projcets. I know alot of people don't like it when bands that they listen to get a little more popular and more people start listening to them and its examples like this that I use for an argument against why gaining a few new fans and a little more exposure isn't a bad thing. You always hear that bands are doing it for the love of the music and in most cases that is true but in this day and age it is so hard to keep doing what you love if you are not making any money doing so. I mean you gotta love a band that tours their ass off traveling around the country in a van that hardly runs lugging their own equipment to venues where they end up playing for 12 people and get paid in day old donughts, beer, and enough money to buy gas to get to the next town and still manage to put out amazing music for their fans. But those bands are getting fewer and further between because people seem to have no problem shelling out $50 to see latest Disney actress turned lip synching popstar. And that really fucking sucks. I mean I don't know what Hey Mercedes touring and living arrangements were but I really wish that they could have appealed to a larger fan base so that the financial constraints didn't end up killing good music. But as it seems another day goes by another good band fades away...at least we will always have something to remember them by....and its not like they are dead...I anticipate hearing from the members of Hey Mercedes in the future. I just hope something like this other groups I like doesn't happen any time soon.

basically yes. they love making and playing music, but it just got to the point where they weren't getting the attention they needed(specially from vagrant) and they just couldn't manage anymore. we will hear from these guys again, fear not.

Yeah I dont think they were pushed enough by the label. I have heard of them and a few songs by them but nothing more than that. Good point about people shelling out $50 for crap pop singers im sorry if you like ashlee simpson but she isnt worth $50 a night not many acts are. On the bright side I feel that shows in the genres that this site pushes are getter larger and larger crowd which even that can be a bad things for fans atleast.
i never thought vagrant did a very good job promoting them, even when the last CD was released.
yeah that was a HUGE problem. i thought it was bullshit.

That's when you chime in by reviewing the album, putting it in your reccomendations, posting news about them ect instead of all the other bands that are repeted over and over.

Yeah, its so sad that a band who hasnt even updated their webpage since last February is breaking up. I've become content with this 8 months ago.

yea they should do a farewell tour
jdmedina
01/21/05, 02:10 PM
i find this so crooked, why can't vagrant keep up with the band?
but oh well, at least i saw them live in dallas in 2002, that day rocked sang allong all the song set
will they get their quallity revenge?
djUbilla
01/21/05, 02:11 PM
Definitely, a farewell tour would be great...I almost got to go see them a couple of summer's ago, I wish I had now.
Everynight Fireworks was a great release, but I think my real favorite is their self-titled EP. Everybody should definitely check that one out. It has "St. James St." and one of their most beautiful songs, "Stay Six". I still remember that song randomly coming on on my friend's computer the night before I left for college. Thanks Hey Mercedes.

i walked in the store one day and saw loses control and i was like is this new? i had no idea they were making a cd.
all of the better vagrant bands seem unappreciated while the generic screamo ones are all over the place

Same with me dude. I started really listening to them like 4 months ago and i was even anticipating going to one of their shows and then some thing like this happens that just makes every one drop their jaws. I wonder why they broke up besides the losing money aspect of it.

I'm so disappointed... and it sucks that one of the primary reasons for it was money.
I got to meet Bob Nanna when he played solo in Detroit in May, and he was just the sweetest guy I've ever met. Literally.
Well hopefully this means there will be more City on Film releases, and possibly a new band... with three of the four guys, heh.

01/21/05, 08:27 PM
They should do a farewell Tour. Its so sad that this band is no more. I think vagrant should hell them have a goodbye tour. This sucks so much. I hope they have atleast a few dates, i would definately try to go see them if they played somewhere i was able to get to.

I'm seriously thinking this means Braid is going to be full time. Anyone that knows Bob Nanna knows he's going to be in a band for the rest of his life. It's his passion.

three letters: WTF?!?!
this is a sin, loses control = amazing!
The last CD, Loses Control, really is a masterpiece. It's a shame that CD was barely promoted because it was one of the best CDs released that year.
I dunno about Braid reuniting once again. I mean they did have that final tour not too long ago.
What I do see happening is they form other bands... which should rock.

My day just went from bad to shitty. I was just shamelessly promoting them to my girlfriend LAST NIGHT via the "Quality Revenge at Last" video.... goddammit. What a nice bunch of guys, too. Bob and Damon were the coolest band members I've ever met (next to the Benjamins... fuckin hilarious) and I was really disappointed Vagrant didn't give them the attention that they needed/deserved... kinda reminds me of the time Virgin did the same thing to the Smashing Pumpkins... fuckin labels... Grrrr....

The stagnant icing on the crap cake i've been eating all weekend, this news is so annoying. i agree with those who are saying about achieveing a certain level of success to support the music, it is important, and it does anger me that there are people selling millions of records without an ounce of the integrity bob and the crew have and will always posess. i am also annoyed that i have never seen them live, and never will because of the country i live in.
i also want to say, though, that just because a band has broken up, does not mean that their music is no longer relevant and that you shouldn't consider not buying said music. so go buy jawbreaker, stryder, minor threat, drive like jehu, X, ramones, far or whatever records because you'll seriosuly be missing out if you don't. long live hey mercedes.
i never thought vagrant did a very good job promoting them, even when the last CD was released.
Seems like Vagrant has lost the mission that they were founded on. I mean I know they aren't the biggest label out there and can only afford to do so much promoting, but one would think that the success of Dashboard that they would try to push another few bands to that level of exposure to the mass media and public. I always wonder what Saves the Day, Hot Rod Circuit, The Alkaline Trio, and The Getup Kids could be if they were on a different label. More than likely they wouldn't have lasted more than one or two releases with the ADD syndrome that most major record labels have these days.

i'm with you on the braid.... if braid could just tour forever I think my life would be complete
i've always preferred braid to HM. that's just me of course.
