View Full Version : Socratic Unveils New Song

Socratic (www.socraticmusic.com)'s new song called "I Am The Doctor" is on pureVOLUME.com (www.purevolume.com/socratic) right now. This is only the second song the band has unveilled since signing to Drive-Thru Records (www.drivethrurecords.com).
Note: It was previously reported that Socratic's new record is being titled "I Am The Doctor", this is NOT true because there was a mix up between the song name and Cd name.

I actually liked it a lot. I don't like the other one much, but I Am the Doctor sounds pretty cool. I guess they could make a pretty solid record with that sound.

This song is lovely! Don't run away condemn the song because youre afraid of something new and different. The world needs to have a more open mind.

This is true. I went to see Halifax at a Drive-Thru showcase in NJ. I stayed to see what Socratic had to offer. I left midway through the second song. They are just very boring musically and performance wise.

I dont dislike the song because im a close minded person. i listen to all music, from classical to hardcore to pop rock, as long as its good. this song is simply not good at all. has drive thru lost its mind in these signings?

Krome was grand. Now there are no venues left near central New Jersey for bands too small to play Starland.

this song sucks
You can say that and it's fine because that's your opinion and that's what these forums are made for. However, I would suggest that you give them another listen. I'm sure that other people can attest to the fact that you may listen to a song once and hate it, but if you listen to it a couple of times, it may grow on you. I'm not saying that you have to like it, but give it a chance.
After seeing them a number of times I would say that they really are a great group of guys and that all of their songs are very different from each other. You've probably only heard 2 of their songs, so you haven't gotten a real taste for what they are really like. See them live and you will know what they are all about.
Oh and about Krome, I would agree that it was a great small venue, but the sound quality there kind of sucked.

I dislike the melody immensely... but don't dislike the song. It's different, very different than a lot of stuff that I usually listen to. I like the singer's voice, I guess.

I don't know about you guys, but I think this song is excellent! It is much better than "Funeral Masses" and I love the instruments in this song. Can't wait for more.

i like "funeral masses" better. i don't really like the lyrics to "i am the doctor", but maybe some of you are right... it might just grow on me.

I really dig it. I'm excited to hear more from them. Hopefully, that's not the best song on the album. But, I'm definitely digging their sound.
And, yeah, much better than Funeral Masses for William Jennings (Viewing Hours 4 -6)...which also has to be one of the worst titles ever

I am not dissagreeing with you or anything but it might help if the song was a little catchy. And its not. I am all for trying new things and having an open mind but when something isnt that good you cant make it better by having an open mind.

For those interested to know, this song will not be on their album. They have a ton of songs written that did not make the record and this is one of them. The band just wanted to give you all a little better idea what to expect. But to those of you who said that all of their songs are different from each other, you're more right then you know. Go see the band live and judge them.

That song sucks. Carlos Santana is good. These guys, no. Sounds like a local band physically sucking a mic'ed dick in the control room of Butthole Recording Studios. They should just quit while they're never getting big.

just speculation, but it looks like you joined just to make a cut at them, which is sad if it's true.
Also, I think the melody of the chorus is pretty catchy. Its an awkward melody, one that takes getting used to. All I meant by "don't condemn the song because it's different" was just allow the song enough time to grow on you.

Sounds like the same thing halifax have done with their EP re-release.. It seems like neither of them were satisfied with No Milk's quality of recording..
Anyways, this song jumped out at me from the start and surprised me cause I thought it would suck donkey balls...

There are a million ways to write a hook. But, it all comes down to it sounding good. Socratic fail in that area. You can have hooks in music played by Slipknot, Killers, Whatever Else is on Radio Right Now, Dillinger Escape Plan, Death Cab, Postal Service, Metallica, Maiden, Every Time I Die. There's a reason why you sing along to some parts of songs and why it sits well on your ear drums. When you feel embarrassed that a song (i.e. by Socratic) is being played on a sound amplifying defice that you own and are currently using, then that band needs to rethink what they're doing in the studio or just stop.

no offense, i just dont agree, and half the bands you just listed dont sit well with my ear drums. I personally don't think it takes much talent to scream into a microphone, just doesn't do it for me. All it really does is give you throat cancer down the road.

i think this song is terrible the lyrics are senses fail quality , the instrumentals are different yes. his voice does sound like max from say anything which is probably cuz he's made his voice a little deeper so he can hit notes easier rather than strain which well he has been doing and why people leave during their set except all those hot chicks that for whatever reason stay
and yes i do believe their keyboard player is the ugliest man alive

I think that your listing of Slipknot as something that sounds good cancels out any cred you ever might have had or will ever have, regardless of whether I agree with you on Socratic or not.
does anyone else think the very very beginning of this song sounds like the beginning of understanding in a car crash?
that's exactly what i said. the first second of it is like HI THURSDAY. it was funny because before the first time i listened to it, i was listening to full collapse and understanding in a car crash was the last song i listened to before i turned it off. thus, i got a little freaked out.

i just wanted to also mention, i would like everyone who said this song sucked, to go and pick up a guitar and play a song and put it on purevolume then we will see whosucks
i mean give them a chance, there a new and upcoming band. There, new around the whole being on a label and getting structure.
They are not the best band in the world, but everytime you hear a band, for the first you don't automatically like them .
Just, give them a chance

This is the dumbest arguement used for any band that puts out a crappy song. "If its so bad then why dont you write something better". Well guess what? I'm not signed to Drive-Thru Records, formerly one of the better labels. I'm not saying I could do better. I am saying that I EXPECT better. Especially from a band signed to Drive-Thru. But really that "then write something better" arguement is so invalid.

It's a perfectly good arguement. You don't really have right to criticize something you can't do yourself - by saying they're not good enough to be signed to Drive-Thru, you imply that you are.
It takes a lot of balls to put your music out there to the public. It doesn't take any to sit around on a message board criticizing people with more courage and probably talent than you.

I'm saying that they are getting paid money to make music on a very big label. Talent or not this is not very good. They may be good enough to be signed to Drive-Thru but right now they are not living up to it. I'm not saying I'm better than them at all so get that straight.
...just had to say i like this new song, a lot.
Being sincere, not exactly what i expected... but its such a cool song, i cannot stop listening to it! Im trustful Socratic will put out a real great album. I so cant wait to get it.. Socratic r so good. * I LOVE SOCRATIC *
