Well, we got hit by a flippin' snow storm yeseterday so I didn't really have anywhere to go besides my computer where I could waste my day away listening to music. Here's what I was spinning yesterday and for the majority of the week.
The Good Life - Album Of The Year
Everyone needs to at least hear this album. Pure genius. I don't even know what to tell you about it or how to describe it, but it's definitely a must hear.
Rocky Votolato - Suicide Medicines
"Montana" is probably my favorite song by Mr. Rocky and is something I can put on repeat for like 20 times. I definitely recommend this album and all his others (Burning My Travels Clean, Self-Titled)
Alkaline Trio - From Here To Infirmary
"Private Eye" is my fave Alk3 song and it had been awhile since I had listened to them so this was my poison of choice for the week.
Rilo Kiley - More Adventurous
Jenny Lewis just has a beautiful voice and I just love how quirky her lyrics can be while still making a point. Also, if you haven't seen their video for "It's A Hit", then you need to make sure you do because it was definitely the best video of last year.
Anberlin - Never Take Friendship Personal
I was never a fan of this band's first album, but they've done something special with their second album here. I don't think this is going to be the best album of the year, but it's pretty solid and will have plenty of staying power in some of your CD players/playlists for quite some time. I still can never get enough of "Paperthin Hymn". The vocals are brilliant and the melodies just reach in and grab you making for some pretty powerful and epic songs.

Every song on Suicide Medicine is amazing! He is ridiculously talented. As is the Good Life and Rilo Kiley. Good recs.
Check out Jeffrey Lewis (http://www.thejeffreylewissite.com/) . I saw him last night at CBGB and I started off wary but he was amazing!

i'm pretty sure rocky votolato secretly acts as the voice of god, but i'm not certain. either way his voice is absolutely stunning. especially in waxwing. i need a rocky/waxwing tattoo.

finally! good recs again, jared.
everything tim kasher does is amazing, and i really mean amazing. especially his work with the good life.
i really hate the "it's a hit" video. i hate seeing the unipine die; it makes me really sad so i always look away.
about their lyrics...i read an article yesterday about them that i found interesting (no one else might). did you know "accidntel deth" was about the sniper shootings? and "portions for foxes" 'is taken from a picturesque reference she [jenny] found in the Old Testament Book of Psalms to the way we all end up as animal fodder.' oh, and "a man/me/than jim" is loosely based on elliott smith's death. ...i just didn't know any of that already.
Some good Rec's The New Decemberists album Picaresque is definitely going to be something everyone wants to check out!

I had never heard that A Man/Me/Than Jim was about Elliott Smith, but I had heard that both Ripchord and It Just Is are, one is from Blake, and the other from Jenny.
If you want to see a badass Rilo Kiley video though, go find the video for Bulletproof. Liam Lynch did it

yeah, i had heard that. which made me wonder though if "a man/me/then jim" really was about elliott smith. i guess very loosely based is possible though.
is that bulletproof video the one with the animation? that's the only one i've seen for the song and it sucked. i'm not sure that was even a real rilo kiley video or if a fan just made it because it was so bad.
edit: i guess it is. i hate that video. i don't understand why so many people love it so much.

Great picks, I cant get enough of Rilo Kiley lately.
The Good Life is the greatest thing since Cursive.

Nice recs man. Album Of The Year, really might be the album of the year. Great stuff on that album. I also like your Alkaline Trio recomendation. The first Alkaline Trio songs i ever heard were from that album and it holds a special place in my heart.

I can never get enough of Rocky Votolato. I saw him at the Triple Rock in Minneapolis and it was amazing. It was so personal and powerful.
If you have heard Suicide Medicine you need to check out Burning My Travels Clean too. If you haven't heard Rocky Votolato at all...do it, do it.
Oh yeah, great reccomendations this week! Rilo and Alkaline are always good choices.
