For Geography this coming summer, i get to go to an American university for 9 months, for experience or whatever, and i was just wondering which one would be best.
- Boston
- East Carolina
- Louisiana
- Buffalo State
-Texas
- North Dakota

I think that's them all, so which one would be best in your opinion? And what kinda reception would an English kid get there? Cheers guys.

Yeah, thanks. Boston looks like the most popular choice... but i don't think that there's enough places for everybody to go. There's also a place in Toronto, called Ryerson that i may consider.

I don't know about any of those universities, but Boston is a great city. If you get the chance to go there, take it. Carolina is gorgeous too, especially near the ocean. I'd say stay away from Buffalo State or North Dakota. Texas and Louisiana would be decent.

And I wouldn't worry about being accepted. I know every foreign exchange student we had when I was in high school we loved and were insanely fascinated by. So as long as you don't come in and act like a prick, pretty much everybody'll like you.

And to add to Alan's statement my friends always had Enlgish / Spanish and French exchange students and they were always loved by everyone. They were asked a bunch of dumb questions but thats what you get with curious Americans I guess. I'd go to ECU (If that is what you're talking about East Carolina U.) because it is pretty big, but I don't know how close it really is to the ocean, maybe 2 hours away? I know it is in the opposite direction. And Boston would be an amazing experience.

yeah cheers guys. Boston or East Carolina are probably the ones to go to. The only thing i'm kinda bothered about is sharing a room with someone.... never done that before.

Ryerson's a great University. I'm headed there next year, i'm at Carleton this year.

Thanks again for all your input... one final question though. What's sharing a room with someone like? I've never had to do that, and just wondering how the hell to make the best of it.

Sharing a room sucks. No way around it. This is my 2nd semester in college and I'm sharing a room for the first (and hopefully, ONLY) time ever. Of course, it all depends on who your roommate is... the most important thing is to immediately, er, "set some boundaries." Make sure you're very clear about how you want to buy shit (like who's going to buy what, and whether you're going to take turns, blah blah blah) and whether or not it's cool if your roommate borrows your stuff, etc, etc. If you really don't like your roommate.... you will still probably get some amount of privacy when he's in class, at work, partying, etc., and you should just make the best of that time. My roommate really gets on my nerves, but even so... I'm surviving, and it's not really that bad. I've learned to let little things go...

Sorry, I know I didn't articulate that really well... I need a nap.

If by Texas, you mean the University of Texas, I would suggest that. Austin is an awesome place for music, and just an all around kick ass city
