]friday night, the night of the snowstorm was the concert. the concert was moved into the eagles ballroom unfortunantly, and i couldn't honestly believe how many fuckin' people were there.
the acadamy is... (***1/2)
they played about 30 minutes, i didn't know any of the songs, but they sounded really good and i will for sure check out the cd when it comes out next month. i got into the guys voice and they had a lot of stage presence and energy.
hidden in plain view (***)
i went into it thinking i wasn't going to like them because i had heard one of their songs, but they actually didn't scream as much as i thought that they would. they had a pretty sweet breakdown in one of their songs, i wouldn't mind hearing their new cd as well.
straylight run (***1/2)
i'm sure this was one of the biggest shows straylight had played. it was inconcievable that all of the something coproate fans in the crowd didn't already know straylight since they are pretty similar. still most something corporate fans are teenyboppin' posers, so i guess i can't be that suprised. they left out "now it's done," which suprised me. they closed with "the tension and the terror," which i am guessing will be the next single. they played exclusivly off the s/t lp and the 5th band member was there, so i am guessing he has probably or will join the band. that's a plus. unfortunantly, straylight's show suffers when they don't headline or have room to play "their" show. unfortunantly no "your name here," "sympathy for the martyr," or "now it's done." even more dissapointly no interplay between any of the acts, i figured andrew would play piano for a straylight song or michelle nolan would play piano for a something corporate song, but nope.
something corporate (****)
as much as i want these guys to just be something from my past, they continue to be good and play very fun and energetic concerts. they played a bunch of everything. they played my personal favorite song, "if i die." then they played konstantine, one of my all-time favorite tunes, and for anyone who knows the song, right before the verse that begins with... "and konstantine is walking down the stairs..." andrew begins singing... "you can't resist her... she's in your bones... she is your marrow and your ride home..." and he is singing weezer's "only in dreams" aka my favorite song of all time. it was fucking surreal, one of my favorite concert moments ever, EVER. he sang the rest of only in dreams and then began with the "and konstantine..." part. then later in the song he sings, "did you know i miss you..." he started with that and then sang, "only in dreams" over and over again. it was just unbe-fucking-lieveable. for that alone this set gets four stars. one of my favorite songs mixed with another. perfect. they played a lot of new stuff, which is kind of growing on me. i got their live dvd for $15, and that is really good too. if only there weren't so many people at these concerts, where were all these people when we saw them a couple years ago in madison for $2 with about 100 other people? they closed with "hurricane."
