I just read a People Magazine article about Teen Sex. I found it quite disturbing. I'm a 22 year old guy and it was actually a pretty depressing article. I don't have the actual link to the article (I couldn't find it on their website). But here is a link to a poll they had:
http://people.aol.com/people/articles/0,19736,1017005,00.html
What is it about teenagers these days? The article focused on young teens (ages 13-14) and they were telling stories that made me pretty sick. About that it's just common to go to parties and "split off" into seperate rooms to have sex or do whatever.
And one kid said oral sex was popular because "it can't ruin your life." Wow. I heard stories from a mom/coworker of mine about her daughter. That her daughter knows the whole cheerleading squad regularly takes the morning after pill to prevent unwanted pregnacies. I can only imaging what these kids do when they tell their parents they are "just hanging out."
But I don't want to sound like a prude or anything. I just feel kids that are 13-14 should NOT be having sex. When I was that age I thought about it and joked about it with friends. But that's what I thought every kid did at that age. I was more concerned about a girl simply "liking me" and had no realistic thoughts of actually having sex or oral sex with a girl. It was just out of the question. I was looking for a girlfriend, but not like that.
The article mentioned the media. Shows like the OC, and Sex in the City. Promoting casual sex. Granted, Sex in the City isn't about teens, but the OC is. And there are many other shows out there that show teens and casual sex. But are shows like this a reflection of teenage socieity or are they dictating what teenage society becomes? Throw MTV in there as well with shows like Dismissed.
And don't forget the whole bi-curious trend. It's trendy to be gay nowadays. Especially for girls as we all know. Is this just a passing of the times, or what?
How come there aren't any role models out there that support kids being abstinate? I know Jessica Simpson openly talked about her choice to stay a virgin until she married. Which was cool, I respect her for that. But I mean, where are ALL THE OTHER celebrities?
And not just celebrities. Why is it always "cool" to be a rebel and do drugs and have sex? How come the popular kids in high school aren't the ones teasing the losers for doing drugs and havng sex all the time with random people at the party? Is it the popular kids who start this? Or is it the people who do it become popular? Where are the popular kids who are cool because they stand up for NOT having sex until they are older or married. Where is the cool kid that everyone likes that is drug free? Why are the straight edge kids always geeks who everyone in high school ignores. Why are the straight edge kids always the punks/social outcasts who are so much smarter than the popular kids who live for social attention and to be well-liked?
Why do the kids who are smart, drug free, and sex free the ones who have their small group of friends who are in a league above the rest of the school? Are young kids THAT stupid to believe that sex and drugs are the tickets to fame and fortune? I mean sure you are young, but come on! Are they that clueless? Young girls like the bad boys. They don't like the nerds unless they were already popular kids gone "hot topic nerd."
Ok, well, enough of this rant. Just getting out my thoughts. I worked with teenagers for a long time in fast food before I finally got out. It made me sick many times. Kids aren't proud of being a virgin. Kids have sex with every partner they get. Kids want to drop out of high school. It's just pathetic. When is it going to be cool to be clean?

i lost my virginity as a freshmen, but i didnt do it to be popular, because i wasnt, nor have i ever been. i had an older girlfriend and i guess i just got that damn curious... 4 years later, i always use protection, no matter who it is with... so not all teenagers are stupid about it. if theres still something wrong about this, isnt that more of a morality issue rather than a safety one? and if its morals, then mine are simply different than yours.

As much as I support abstinance, I don't agree with some of what you're saying. But fair enough, everyone has an opinion..

With that being said. I have never had actual intercourse and it has nothing to do with religion, because I'm not religious, and I don't think it has much to do with morals. I don't have sex because I respect my girlfriend and she has a bright future. I wouldn't want to accidently get her pregnant and fuck up her whole life.

My school is littered with little sluts and ignorant boys. They all just try so hard to fit in and be like everyone else. It makes me sick. They are the most one-dimensional bastards i have ever come across, its no doubt the same in some of your schools. I'm no lone misfit or anything like that, but it seems like i'm the only one who feels strongly about it. :headshake

No I agree. Thats why I'm such a nice guy who treats people well. Because growing up seeing those kids being such bastards just made me not want to be anything like that.

and you know what? to all you high schoolers out there, just so you know...dont come to college expecting some enhanced level of maturity or something of the sort? people are all the same. girls still kiss each other for attnetion and alcohol. 2 girls still grind on each other to be the focus at a party.
college = hgh school with ashtrays.
but i cant say anything about all that, i had sex at 13, but we had been dating for almost a year and, yeah, im ashamed about it, but it happened.

Yeah, at my school kids started oral sex around 12, and sex at 13. It was insane when I look back, but at the time it was the 'coolest' thing there was. haha, I held out from intercourse until I was 18 though which was when I felt comfortable. I don't know what my opinion is on it though.. kids are going to do what they want to you can't stop them.
I disagree with two things though, the bi thing has just become more accepted in society so i'm sure it's just giving more people an oppurtunity to experiement with their feeling without being bashed. To call it trendy is just stupid, people who are 100% straight dont just fuck around with people the same sex to be 'cool and trendy'.
I also disagree about the 'bad-boy' thing. What both girls and guys are looking for is confidence, and if you have that you don't have to be a bad boy, or whatever the equivalent is for girls.

Why you hatin' on the gays?
Sorry, didn't mean to generalize THAT much. But this here is exactly what I meant::
girls still kiss each other for attnetion and alcohol. 2 girls still grind on each other to be the focus at a party.
That's exactly what I am talking about. Thanks for pointing this out. And yes, it is "scene" to be bi-curious.
college = hgh school with ashtrays.
Right on. My girlfriend's brother just went to college this year and he said he was expecting something totally different. He said people are all still the same. They only care about drinking and parties, just like high school. Except there is no mommy or daddy around.
But I apoligize if I generalized a bit to much. Of course, there are always so many exceptions. I lost my virginiity when I was 21. I was "waiting" for a while, but it just seemed right with my current girlfriend.
I also disagree about the 'bad-boy' thing. What both girls and guys are looking for is confidence, and if you have that you don't have to be a bad boy, or whatever the equivalent is for girls.
Sure, but look at what is confident when you are a teenager. It's always the "bad-boys". We all know this is true. Girls even admit it. I agree that the ladies want confidence, but when you are 13-14 years old, confidence is having sex, doing drugs, not listening to teachers, stealing your parents car, etc. That's generalizing, but you know what I mean.
And then when you get older, confidence equals having a nice car with a nice thumpin system and neons. It means wearing clothes from Abercrombie and Fitch or American Eagle. It means having other "confident" friends that you associate with. It means guys who aren't afraid to call their girl a slut. Confident enough to cheat on their girlfriends and know they will always come back again.
I am not a religious person, so I am not letting religion cloud my judgement. I am just speaking from experience. Just my opinion.

I know two girls from school who had abortions in the 8th grade. It's disgusting. I'm not going to try and moralize or lecture anyone because I'm not the purest person around, but the age that kids start having sex, doing drugs, and god knows what else now is ridiculous. It's really sad actually.

A girl I worked with at McDonald's had an abortion and she was a freshman. The father of the child was 19 and also worked at the same store. Her parents made her get an abortion otherwise they would press charges against her boyfriend.
She was telling me how she has sex on the pool table with her boyfriend while her parents are in the other room. Now, she could very well be lying. So I have no idea.
But it's really sad that they are involved in this at quite a young age. I admire the girls that are "smarter" and who don't sleep around. I just get a bad feeling in my stomach when I hear young girls and guys talk about their sexual experiences like describing something on tv. I mean, this other freshman was talking about how she swallows and enjoys giving head. Like omg, makes me vomit.

i came to college this year, and your girlfriend's brother is exactly right. no one at my school seems to care too much about school (except the people who don't drink). they are all more concerned with which frat they're going to drink and party at that night. i don't enjoy those kind of things, so it kinda frustrates cause i was expecting something totally different, too. oh well.

i am a virgin(not by choice, just can't seem to get any.) but right on with what you are saying. what the fuck is wrong with the world today. i'd love to just kill pop culture. i really don't understand what is going through your head when that is what you are all about at that age. maybe it was different when i was that young. i was more into music and skateboarding than anything else. i would love to get attention from girls, but sex wasn't even brought up. when i was thirteen it was still the "omg they hooked up". now thats like a greeting among younger kids. the world is going downhill.

I'm also 22 and work with middle schoolers and high school kids almost every day and it's shocking what they do. The terms and the complete total abandonment they do it all with... It makes me feel like I grew up on a farm and went to school in some sheltered area, and I didn't. I'm taking a class right now where all we're reading are books about teen sex and learning why we aren't aloud to teach them when we become teachers. I even have to write a research paper on First Teen Sex. It amazes me. I think it's self-esteem and poor parenting and the media and curiosity and SO many factors.
Making me older of course is the fact Katie Couric is doing a special on Teen Sex tomorrow (Wednesday night) @10PM...I don't know what station. What ever station Scrubs is on. NBC? Anyway, I'm totally watching that.

Cheap and casual. They describe what sex is for kids. It's become entertainment for teens. Like when you go to a party, why not perform oral sex on the guy next to you. I mean, you already ran out of super nintendo games so there is nothing else to do... right?
And it's funny when I am at my girlfriends college town. You go to wal mart and you see the checkout lines filled with kids buying cases of beer and those dreaded red cups. Those damn red cups are symbolic of the college party. And the next morning they are lying all over the floor next to the miscellaneous bodily fluids and pizza boxes.

I think the more people you have sex with, the more it cheapens your sex life with your future spouse, because it's supposed to be "special". I'd feel robbed if my future spouse had sex with 20 girls before me... but that's just how I see it.
One of my friends said this awhile back, and I'd have to agree with her:
"You know what is wrong with this country? The complete LACK of standards. The deterioration of morals the past few decades is completely atrocious. Back in the day the word "sex" couldn't even be said on television. Now all TV is is pre-marital sex, expletives, and uproarious and lovable drunks."

Very true. These kids don't even know where to draw the line. For some reason, they feel that being well-liked is more important than being true to yourself and have a set of standards to help you make good decisions. It's like their parents didn't draw any boundary lines and are more worried about being friends with their kids than being a good parent.
But I don't want to sound like a prude or anything. I just feel kids that are 13-14 should NOT be having sex. When I was that age I thought about it and joked about it with friends. Whoa....slow down grandad, the OC is about 17/18 year old kids not 13/14 year olds, I see no problem with it talking about sex.As for 'promoting' it, sex is a big deal to 17/18 year olds so it's not like the scriptwriters are gonna just forget about it.
And don't forget the whole bi-curious trend. It's trendy to be gay nowadays. Especially for girls as we all know. Is this just a passing of the times, or what?
So what if kids are experimenting with their sexuality?I mean yeah sure a lot of people I know are 'bi' to be cool, but if kids want to find out they're sexuality why is this such a tabboo?Fuck that repressed shit.[/QUOTE]

You live in Ohio, what do you expect? Im sure there is not much to do there except Eat, Drink, Fuck, Listen to Music and Sleep. It is true that teenagers these days are going to the extreme which in some cases are terrible but in some cases it really isn't that shocking. It's High School, you do crazy things in high school. Just because you are 16 years old and you want a bj from some girl who wants to give it shouldn't have this huge out cry of protest. Its life, its the process of learning either through mistakes or just by experiencing.

There is a difference between having sex and having recreational sex. Clean means not having promiscuous sex. Being safe. Being smart about things. Not just having sex cause it feels good and it's fun to do. I mean if we all did things that felt good all the time without having any guidelines, that wouldn't make us any different than a pig rolling around in the mud. How do you get that out of what you said? What would you think if your kid at 12 went out and had sex with the kid next door? Well, say they were protected. Would that make any difference? Kids that age should not be having sex. When kids are that age, they are hardly mature enough to even know what sex really is. They just know it feels good. They think by knowing that the rubber thing goes on the penis that everything will all be ok. Whatever.

Not sure. I skipped my teenage years and went straight from a baby to an adult. ;-)

13-14 year olds are just hitting or are in the middle or puberty so maybe its just a new experience? I don't know, I remember being horny when i was 14-15. I thought people having sex at 13 was a joke. haha Turns out it wasn't a joke. Maybe its evolution? Maybe we're starting to mature faster? Who knows. Its more disturbing reading articles on a 6 year old giving head to a boy in her class. Not even first grade yet. Thats no bullshit. I read an article about that a few years back. Thats the shit that freaks me out.
