New Roland Emmerich film in the works.
Plot: With the Mayan calendar ending in 2012, a large group of people must deal with natural disasters such as volcanic eruptions, typhoons and glaciers.
Starring: John Cusaak, Thandie Newton, Woody Harrelson, Amanda Peet, Danny Glover.
1) LOL @ Emmerich basically making the same film twice (see: Day After Tomorrow)
2) Here's to hoping this is better than 10,000 B.C...

only Roland Emmerich would make a crappy movie like this to capitalize on the whole retarded 2012 shebang!! I can enjoy movies for the hell of enjoying movies which is why I'm seeing Transformers 2, but I personally still think this looks like garbage. Only movie I've ever enjoyed from this man is Independence Day and I think that had more to do with the cast than the script. Every other film I've seen from him has been terrible. Day After Tomorrow was ridiculous, Stargate was wasted potential only realized in the hands of other people, and don't even talk to me about Godzilla.

pretty much everyone does lol, tho I skipped out on 10,000 b.c., after TDAT I couldnt get the bad taste out of my mouth lol. BUT, I'll admit that even Godzilla's a guilty pleasure once in a blue moon, I mean its a total wtf movie, BUT I can handle it, and Stargate is a classic I mean I was like 11 when that came out, and like any kid was flippin out over it, that and Street Fighter lol, those came out around the same time. I got 2-3 action figures for my birthday too, O'Neil, Horus, and Anubis. Man those toys rocked!!

This movie is purely for entertainment and spectacle and it delivers massively on both of these aspects and that is the main reason I enjoyed it so much. Let me rephrase. I personally thought it was terrible, not terribly done, I just didn't like it. It bored me. Not saying that it's a badly made film, just not my "cup of tea" as you said.
I'm not the only one who didn't like it either. My History and Development of Films Professor also said that he hated it, as did most of the class. I'm sure it was outstanding for its time, but I didn't have the interest. Casablanca on the other hand, is an A++ for me.

Exactly. People have their heads shoved soooo far up their own pretentious assholes, they can't grasp anything that isn't a Spike Jones film or something with Zooey Deschanel in it. Since when was watching stuff blow up not cool?

Anyway, I'm seeing this tonight I cannot wait.
I agree.
Exactly. People have their heads shoved soooo far up their own pretentious assholes, they can't grasp anything that isn't a Spike Jones film or something with Zooey Deschanel in it. Since when was watching stuff blow up not cool?
I do enjoy the occasional thinker, but sometimes you just need to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride.
But this is also coming from someone who thinks that Raiders of The Lost Ark, The Empire Strikes Back, and Night of the Living Dead are the best movies of all time, so who knows, haha.
I agree with you also and Raiders of the Lost Ark and Night of the Living Dead are two of the best movies of all time.

I don't understand why people give others a hard time for enjoying mindless, entertaining movies. It's no different than enjoying music that is just catchy but with no substance whatsoever. And I'm pretty sure everyone enjoys a few bands / musicians that fall in that category.

Can't it be the same to say "I don't understand why people give others a hard time that don't enjoy mindless entertainment?"

No one here is giving anyone a hard time for not enjoying mindless entertainment.
I just don't get the point of coming in this thread just to tell others that they should not watch this movie, or making it sound like enjoying mindless movies = bad taste / not cool. It makes no sense to me.

Pretty sure Brotested is calling people that can't enjoy them pretentious and have their heads up their asses. I enjoy shit blowing up ... and disaster movies even more - so I'm semi- just playing Devi's advocate here, but for someone to condescend someone else that digs flicks that you have think about, mill over, etc. is pretty lame.

I'm pretty sure he was saying that it's okay to enjoy mindless entertainment too, on top of movies that "make you think," because some people were saying that they don't like mindless entertainment, period. So yeah, there's a big difference between that and what you're saying.
At least that's how I read his post, anyway. But I do agree with him, some of the posts here do seem really pretentious. Who cares if people enjoy silly movies just for entertainment value?

Yeah, I definitely know what you're saying. I just hate how people sometimes write off a movie completely because it's not intellectual. I said that I enjoy both.

The movies you listed are all well-written though and actually excel in every department pretty much. There's a huge difference between those and the stuff Roland Emmerich usually makes haha.

Just went to see this. I absolutely loved it. Yeah, a part or two of the acting wasn't top-notch, but it was forgivable to me. Just let your mind go and have fun, I did and I enjoyed myself for the entire 2 and a half hours.
Also, the CGI is ridiculous. I haven't been awed by spectacle like that in a long time.

I am majoring in Film and Video with intentions of screenwriting. I can tell you a million things that are done terribly in just about any film -- but I hardly think blockbusters where the sole intent is to entertain are worthy of so much backlash. We all know these movies are not going to enlighten us -- it's perspective. If you don't like movies that are meant to simply be watched, then find something else. If you want to experience something, you know where to look. I think it's bias, and people get upset films like this continue to get rushed into production. The fact of the matter is, ever since Star Wars came out, people want to see shit that they could never ever imagine seeing elsewhere. That is the appeal of CGI! That argument to me is null and void, and frankly seems snobby. CGI is one aspect of moviemaking I enjoy -- albeit in small increments. Sure, it's in every "big budget" movie produced nowadays... but isn't that kind of the idea?

Ended up seeing this because a friend and the girlfriend wanted to go. I can turn off my brain and enjoy some ridiculousness so this was worth the price of admission; some of it was so over-the-top you couldn't help being amused. Basically, if you like roller coasters or having candy for breakfast, you'll probably get some enjoyment out of it. I was just initially cautious, though, because 10,000 BC was so god-awful -- easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen.

I liked this movie but I'm a big disaster flick guy. Freakiest part was when they are heading towards Hawaii to fuel up....only to find....well....Hawaii gone lol
The Yellowstone part was messed too but I was kinda disappointed. It should've been a much much bigger explosion lol.

I love how shallow and empty this movie was, as far as the 2012 theories and all. It was basically just disaster after disaster, no plot. The visuals were a thrill though, that and John Cusack pretty much made the movie for me.
Yeah, the movie was pretty horrid, as expected. Visuals were good.
