Love You Long Time - Party to the People
Record Label: Unsigned
Release Date: September 30, 2008

Party to the People, the new CD from the power-hop outfit Love You Long Time has amoeba-like lasers resembling Datarock, trippy urban-hop grooves liken to Eminem, and impulsive frolics exhibiting quick reflexes and squiggly patterns comparable to The Aquabats. Lead vocalist Oz does some fancy shifting from a Beastie Boys-like vocal rapping in “Steps in my Fade” to a melodic power pop vocalese in “Dream Killer.” His versatility arouses the bumps and grinds coursing through the band’s bass guitarist Chains and drummer Liam, while keyboardist Sally and programmer Tyson suit up the tracks with channels of ambient and jostling chords and boosters that launch the sonic pivots. The digital complexity in the chord movements of Party to the People produces astral fantasies with a club vibe pierced by electro house shafts.

The trip-hop propulsion of “Calculate” is energizing and runs through a brambly gamut of electro-pop frippery and dance-funk beats. Oz’s words move like a hovercraft over the rhythmic grooves creating moments of daydreaming and introspection, “She’s wicked / Got me twisted / Man, so addicted / Have you ever seen a girl like that before / Let me calculate her / Come on, let me calculate her / Hear the sound of your heartbeat / Got the multiplication, the perfect equation / It’s you plus me.” The lyrics sometimes have a cutsy rhyme to them like in “Party like I Used To” as Oz rattles and repeats, “Shimmy, shimmy coco puffs / Shimmy, shimmy rock” and the dance-hop shakers stir excitement in the melodic hooks.

The techno-club quivers of “I Had You Wrong” produce flowing lines and slits for breaks as Oz’s vocals mediate between rapping and singing. The hip hop pulses of “The Power” have an Eminem-pumping, and the boom box beats of “Steps in my Fade” are embellished in heavy vocal distortions, but the track that really brings out the best in Love You Long Time is “Dream Killer.” The vines of ambient synths and dance beats have a melodic roping and cool gelling. The squiggly waves and sonic blossoms kettle the trippy sequences with a progressive slant and exciting imbroglios. The caramelizing of everyone’s parts in this track intensifies the band’s electro-pop magnetism.

Love You Long Time’s new album has an urbanized hip hop ticking with digitally radiating effects and rapids of tumbling rattles that foment the chord movements to a party house pitch. Party to the People brings the party into people’s home. LYLT are not about people living vicariously through them, but actually being a part of the party. This is Long You Long Time’s mantra, no one is left out.

Fuck this. Look at that cover, the name of the band, the name of the album, then listen to it. Terrible, fucking terrible. I'm surprised Love You Long Time wasn't already taken by a bunch of skinny bitches with swoopy hair who talk about "partying" constantly. Someone beat the shit out of one of these band to teach them all a lesson.
