View Full Version : Underrated Singers

I'm sure most people would say that anthony green, cove from saosin, haley williams, and many others are among the best singers in the scene. what about the ones who may not be so well known...

post a singer who you think is vastly underrated(include the band please) and tell why. here are my two.

johnny craig (emarosa): i personally believe he has the best voice out of anybody else. he has a voice that's comprable to anthony green without the whinning.

kevin skaff (the clean singer for four letter lie): i'm sure that for some rerason people hate this bands but you have to admit this guy is great. he has a really melodic voice with surprising range. plus, he has a fairly masculine voice considering his range

Johnny Craig is far from underrated, just lurk the best singer thread and see how much little kids say he is awesome.

I would say Keith Buckley is very underrated, Finale he has a great singing voice.

Stephen Christians voice is great on album...but ive seen live vids where he's straining those chords...maybe he's gotten better though.

Mike Kinsella is my choice though I dont know if he's underated.
That guy from RX Bandits has a great voice as well.

When I think underrated I singers I think of singers who are overshadowed by the music they play. A prime example being Joseph Secchiaroli of the reign of kindo, excellent vocalist but often times forgotten because of uniqueness of the music they play. Another example is bon iver, because of the style of music his vocal prowess isn't as prominent. It's often overlooked how impressive his singing ability truly is.

I agree with completely Casablancas. Jay Kay, I don't really consider underrated. Anyone who listens to Jamiroquai knows how good he is. With Saadiq, I havent really heard much of his stuff, so I can't really say.

I was thinking about it, Tokyo Rose never really gets the credit they deserve. Ryan Dominguez has a lot of talent, that I don't think he gets as much praise as he should.

I partly agree, Anthony Green's voice is good but annoying as hell, I like Saosin but the vocals again ain't my cup of tea and Hayley Williams is ok and fairly good live mostly but nowhere near one of the best, who knows she may progress over the next few years.

Personally i'd say Sian Sanderson of Hearts Under Fire, Liam Cormier (Cancer Bats-need a bit of aggression in there, people seem to forget that singing is a form of emotion and expression and not just how powerful a vocalist you are or the range you posess) and Jim Adkins albeit he's probably not underrated.

Ryan Hunter of Envy on the Coast is an underrated gem. He's got great range and passion. He reminds me alot of Daryl Palumbo without completely ripping him off like Secret Lives of the Freemasons do (though I dig them alot too). He just simply has a set of pipes on him. check him out

yes. agreeeeed.

so good live.

yeah, i seen him at warped tour in philly and i thought he sung incredible. i'm gonna see him again in november, so we'll see i guess. he might of just had a bad night vocally.

yeah, that happens. they're def a great band though! from what i've heard the new record is sick.

I agree with you on the Four Letter Lie thing.

The new vocalist for Bedlight For Blue Eyes, don't know his name.

Same with the vocalist for Every Avenue.

Guy from the Stiletto Formal can lay it down too.Yes. He can do it live too.

Every Avenue, absolutely not.

Haven't listened to TSF's new album yet, so I'll reserve judgement for now.

I really like the vocalist from The Reign Of Kindo :shrug:Yes. Agreed many times over.

Jason Gleason formerly of Furthur Seems Forever and Action Reaction. Now Old Wives(dont get the new name at all).Agreed. He's unreal live.

unless stephen has gotten better, last time i heard him live he wasn't that great. but being a touring singer has to be hard... and i try to keep that in mind.Stephen is boring live. I like Anberlin but having seen them two or three times, they just don't impress me.

Tim McIlrath of Rise Against. He's gotten a lot better as they've gotten a little hookier. He does a good job balancing the screaming, shouting, and then keeping a really good singing voice.

He's one of the most overrated singers ever.Dallas Green? No. Ever is a strong word; he's phenomenal vocally with City & Colour although his lyrics are what people generally have a problem with (and I understand that).

90% of AP posters would willingly give him a blowjob and brag about it. As much as I enjoy Brand New's music, he is the next most overrated singer, to Dallas Green.

I personally don't like his music period, but his voice is good, I can see that. It's just that a lot of people view him as the coming of Jesus Christ.

Dallas Green
Jesse Lacey
Anthony Green
Max Bemis

Those four are easily the most overrated singers, whether you like them or not.
