that's what i thought, that, with Cliff Burton, died the band

but idk, something about St. Anger appealed to me

Shatter590

i liked Frantic, St Anger and Invisible Kid. Thats about it for that album.

Loved Reload tho.

Load sucked horribly. Reload took a few months, but I found the songs be be extremely technical and intricate, and very catchy. I think it gets a ton of hate just because its not as "good" as Metallica's older stuff. On its own merits, I think it rules.

i agree wholeheartedly

but i did ADORE the S&M album, it made all the terrible songs sound amazing, and all the amazing songs sound much better

S&M was an achievement, thats for sure. But a chunk of the credit goes to Michael Kamen (RIP).

KISS did it once, with disastroust effects.

Why not just check out Apocalyptica then.

i only have the first one, i got a bit tired of the formula after that.

most prog metal also sounds like it could have a symphony attached to it.

i'd like to hear Dream Theater

um...Queensryche had some good symphony concerts

as did Styx (not prog metal, just remembered)

Iron Maiden would be sweet with the symphony

St Anger was poor but when it is a band like Metallica with the past albums they have made and they made such a hoo-ha going in and out of rehab etc beforehand, extending the wait for the album, it was fighting an uphill battle to be accepted.

Having said that, it wasn't as hated a few weeks after it had come out as it seems to be now. And that fucking snare drum just enhanced the dissapointment.

I'd agree with this about reload - I enjoy it whenever I give it a spin

On the St. Anger issue - a few of my friends still say they like this album & I'll admit I really enjoyed it for the summer it was released but then I came to my senses & realized just how awful this album is - all the songs go on for too long of the same repetitive crap & don't get me started on the lyrics

The DVD hints that with better production, the songs could have sounded better ... however, the writing was weak and really, it was big thud-heavy rock with no real depth.

No it doesn't. The Black Album may have been a change of direction but it is a great album, and Death Magnetic does not suck.
