this may be a weird thread to post on ap.net, but i was wondering if anyone knew of any good sites or companies to go through to get a personal loan. i'm looking to get around $10,000 to pay off some debt and to put down for a house.

I'm pretty sure that, when you buy a house, you have enough money loaned to you on the mortgage that you should really provide the deposit yourself, rather than piling yourself in more debt.

if you need a mortgage, talk to me, i'm a mortgage whore, well not really, but I can give you lots of great helpful advice.
There is a Nigerian bank that has to send millions of dollars to give to you for you to keep it safe. If you give them your bank account #, they will put the money in there and you will keep hold of it until they arrive in America. You will be given about 10% of that sum of money, and the rest they will take back into their bank. So are you ready for the opportunity of a lifetime?

I'm willing to lend it to you. I have a large amount of money in an overseas bank account from an unidentified source. We'll have to keep this under the table, that means no contracts, no face-to-face meetings, and keeping my identity discreet. PM me with your SS#, a record of your debts, and your legal record.

Taking out a loan for a down payment is not a good idea at all.

it's called debt consolidation. its a better way of handling your debt. rather than having five poeple harrassing you daily over debt, you get a loan, pay them off, and pay one person or company. 90% of my debt is because of someone else, so im not just some irresponsible kid who took out seven credit cards and bought ridiculous stuff i didnt need and is now looking for help.
as for people wanting me to give them my ssn and account #...yeah. no.

if you consolidate your debt, you pay off all of the accounts and businesses that are causing your credit to suffer. you can work with a company, or person, to make affordable payments and your credit will begin to rebound.
i have to pay my debt off, and want to, and consolidation is the best route to do so.
im sure you have no debt problems so you find it easy to judge me. i have most of my debt because of someone else, not my own doing, but its still my debt. i put my name on the line and now i have to pay for it. theres nothing wrong with making mistakes as long as you learn from them.

why do you feel consolidation is the best route? You end up paying for something you can work out on your own. Have you tried negotiating a work-out plan with your creditors before turning your stuff over to a company that will make money off of you?
You should check out Clark Howard. He's a radio talk show host that gives really helpful advice about personal finance and avoiding ripoffs. http://clarkhoward.com/ and here's a search I just did for "debt consolidation" on his site: http://clarkhoward.com/shownotes/category/6/23/169/
