I'll be at the show tonight. Scary Kids won't be there and I don't know the other two opening band's material, but I'll do my best to remember the Anberlin set.

whats the order?

i was thinking it was;

Anberlin (headline)
Straylight Run
Scary Kids
TFT (openner)

am i right?

TMS2787

Anberlin (headliner), SKSK (direct support), Straylight Run (support), TFT (opener)

there for tomorrow, the opener, is incredibly talented for a young band. i think a lot of people will enjoy them.

i've never seen anberlin before (except a little bit at warped while we were waiting to meet someone) but ive heard awesome things. i'm going for straylight run, and maybe i'm a little biased but shouldnt they be direct support? scary kids dont suck, but SR i thought for sure would play after them. what gives?

I think SKSK is bigger in terms of album sales/popularity....I could be wrong though.

wingnnit
10/03/08, 01:47 AM
Yeah I think SKSK is bigger as far as popularity as well, they just got done co-headlining with finch which seems kind of big. Not to mention personally I think SKSK makes a better direct support for Anberlin, but thats just my opinion, its not that I don't like straylight run either cause I have seen them twice and liked em both times.

Edit: I just noticed the skin right now. Lol. Man I really can not wait for this tour.

Anberlin set please!

chcougar1
10/03/08, 09:05 AM
This is incomplete but supposedly they for sure played:

disappear.
breaking.
resistance.
younglife.
haight street.
dismantle.repair.
unwinding cable car.
adelaide.
never take friendship personal.
a day late.
godspeed.
Paperthin Hymn
Feel Good Drag

I'm really hoping there were at least 2 more songs....and I would really like to see Northern Lights on there!!

Circa1628

right

10/03/08, 11:59 AM
Anberlin's setlist seems short I am hoping for at least 2 more maybe Ready Fuels or Cadence.
But overall the setlist looks pretty sweet I was hoping for a more New Surrender since its new and it looks like enough of New Surrender.

Yeah also SKSK set would be nice.

Ok here is everything I can remember from Anberlin's set last night.

(In no order)
Godspeed
Adelaide
Unwinding Cable Car
Hello Alone
Dismantle.Repair.
(*Fin)
Never Take Friendship Personal
Paperthin Hymn
A Day Late
(The Symphony of) Blase
The Resistance
Breaking
Retrace
Feel Good Drag
Disappear
Younglife
Haight St.

And then I know they played one song off of Blueprints For The Black Market but I wasn't familiar with it. I think that's everything though. They sounded absolutely incredible. I really liked Straylight Run having never listened to their music before. There For Tomorrow was a great opener.

The Resistance and Breaking? Awesome! I would like to hear Blame Me! Blame Me! from the new album.

I'm glad Dismantle.Repair., NTFP, A Day Late are on the setlist.

Thanks

I'm kind of surprised Breathe didn't make the set, but that is okay I am MORE than happy with that list!...maybe Northern Lights can make the set on their next headlining tour;)

It would be a perfect opener. However, Godspeed is pretty solid as an opener especially if they use "Debut" as intro music. If I was writing the set list I'd probably order it like this:

Godspeed
Adelaide
Haight St.
Never Take Frienship Personal
Disappear
YoungLife
Symphony of Blaise
Unwinding Cable Car
Hello Alone
Retrace
Breaking
A Day Late
The Resistance
Feel Good Drag
Paperthin Hymn
Dismantle.Repair

Encore:

(*Fin)

That way The Resistance serves as an intro to the bad ass rock out songs to end the set haha

I don't. If I could hear it I would probably recognize it. I started listening to Anberlin about a year ago with Never Take Friendship Personal and just never got around to picking up their first album.

As far as set order goes. I believe they opened with Never Take Friendship Personal, followed by one or two of the other songs they played from that album. And yes, the encore was Symphony of Blase and then (*Fin).

I'm really excited for There For Tomorrow, I just started listening to them the other day, I think they're going to be a really good opener. I'm really not feeling SKSK though, their old stuff is fun live, but I haven't seen their new album live yet, and I don't really like it at all. I'm definitely stoked for Straylight, I've never seen them live before. As far as Anberlin goes, the setlists so far look awesome, but I would like a few older songs and Alexithymia, I love that song. And I really just want to see at least one Blueprints song live when I see them.

Yeah, but that was just ONE setlist. This tour has been going on a few days now. I'd just like to see how much they're changing it up. Our date, which is the last date of the tour, is just Anberlin and Straylight Run, and There For Tomorrow. Should be a great time.

10/08/08, 03:58 AM
just got back. there for tomorrow were a GREAT openner. sounded really good and set a good vibe. straylight run was the reason i went. heres the set in order;

mistakes we knew we were making
wait and watch
it never gets easier
soon we'll be living in the future
ten ton shoes
existentialism on prom night
try
hands in the sky

scary kids were horrible. all of my friends really like em but i havent heard much of their stuff. i was going into their set thinkin it'd be pretty good since they co-headlined with finch and all. THEY SUCKED. people were really into them, but the singer doesnt know how to work i mic or something. one of the worst performances i've ever seen easily.

anberlin were incredible. i've never listened to them except i've heard adelaide like twice in my life. they sounded great, they were having a genuine good time, and they were spot on.

p.s. i know i complained earlier in this thread about SR playing before SKSK but i swear i'm not that immature and dumb to base my "review" (if you wanna call it that) off of that opinion. i could see when i got there that it would've been weird if SR were direct support. sksk just plain sucked ass. thats a simple fact.

of course it is. anberlin is amazing. and even the rumor of fin live is worth the price of admission. you will not be disappointed. and if you are with the music? meet up with the guys after the show. Stephen is easily the most intelligent and nicest guy in the scene.

On TFT's tour with ivoryline, they promised they would play "Remeber When" on this tour so I hope they do...maybe a new song too or a new cover...
And I can;t wait for SKSK even though people said they sucked; I hope most of the setlist from the self-titled

We Dreamt in Heist is one of my favorite Anberlin songs, but they probably don't play it because it is super old now:(...there are a lot of songs that I like from their first album but they are kinda cheesy (especially Foreign Language) but I would LOVE to see them play a lot of those songs...they probably just dont feel like those songs representt he sound they are trying to convey these days....just a guess.

I went Tuesday and if the sound people wouldn't have been so bad, it might have sounded decent, but alas it was pretty bad for all the bands.

We got there late and missed most of There For Tomorrow but caught the last 2 songs. They were half decent and the 2 songs that I caught were:

Taking Chances
Pages

Straylight Run was next and they were beyond horrible. Not only did they sound like crap(with no help from the sound technicians)but they were missing notes left and right and really didn't have too much energy nor did they seen to care much. They played(in order):

1.Mistakes We Knew We Were Making
2.Wait and Watch
3.It Never Gets Easier
4.Soon We'll Be Living In the Future
5.Ten Ton Shoes
6.Existentialism On Prom Night
7.Try
8.Hands In the Sky

Next were Scary Kids. I really wasn't expecting much but they weren't all that bad. Not great or anything, but not bad. The keyboardist was either REALLY fucked up on something good or had too much energy for his own good. They played(in order):

1.Degenerates
2.Snake Devil
3.My Darkest Hour
4.The Deep End
5.A Pistol To My Temple
6.The Only Medicine
7.A Breath of Sunshine
8.Holding On
9.Free Again
10.Faces

Last was Anberlin. I don't know why, but they played a very short set. They cut 3 songs out(I will denote these in brackets[] where they would have played them)and we couldn't figure out why. They were having sound problems all night and it was almost 12 when they got done playing so it could have been time restraints. Stephen also kept going side stage during long instrumentals and talking to one of the guys over there so maybe his throat wasn't feeling too well. This was quite disappointing considering what they played at other shows before this one. It also surprises me that they cut out three songs from their new album and not a couple of older songs. But, they rocked as usual even though the vocals were set too low for the first half. I do have to mention how unbelievablly awesome Christian is. He brings not only an amazing guitar talent and voice but such a great stage presence. Anyways, they played(in order):

1.Disappear
2.Never Take Friendship Personal
3.Paperthin Hymn
[Breaking]
4.A Day Late
5.Adelaide
6.Dismantle.Repair.
7.The Unwinding Cable Car
[Retrace]
8.Hello Alone
9.Feel Good Drag
[Haight St.]
10.The Resistance
11.Godspeed

11.Godspeed

That's too bad about the short Anberlin set. But if they play that exact 15 song list, I'll be content. How was the *Fin closer?

That's what I was afraid of. There was just something strange going on that you knew something wasn't right. Well, I hope he gets his voice back and they don't have to cancel any more dates. It would be a shame.

Typical Scary Kids show :]
I talked to Pouyan once and asked him how and why he goes all out at every show and he said its all about having a good time and that if he has a good time then everyone else will to. But its expected. Just be glad you didnt see them at an incredibly small venue with 150 people and he kept stagediving and hanging from the ceiling. But he just does that to have fun

Straylight run > scary kids x100

they're almost or just as good as anberlin.

and i love anberlin.

Wish Michelle was still there though :(
just got back. there for tomorrow were a GREAT openner. sounded really good and set a good vibe. straylight run was the reason i went. heres the set in order;

mistakes we knew we were making
wait and watch
it never gets easier
soon we'll be living in the future
ten ton shoes
existentialism on prom night
try
hands in the sky

scary kids were horrible. all of my friends really like em but i havent heard much of their stuff. i was going into their set thinkin it'd be pretty good since they co-headlined with finch and all. THEY SUCKED. people were really into them, but the singer doesnt know how to work i mic or something. one of the worst performances i've ever seen easily.

anberlin were incredible. i've never listened to them except i've heard adelaide like twice in my life. they sounded great, they were having a genuine good time, and they were spot on.

p.s. i know i complained earlier in this thread about SR playing before SKSK but i swear i'm not that immature and dumb to base my "review" (if you wanna call it that) off of that opinion. i could see when i got there that it would've been weird if SR were direct support. sksk just plain sucked ass. thats a simple fact.

they don't need kyle to play (*Fin) they've done it before. when i first saw them play it they didn't use a choir vocals at the end, which i really think adds to that song. stephen's voice soars over the other's as they wrap that song up, incredible.

The set was very good overall...I always wish it could be longer with them, but that is only because I love most of their material. Stephen was definitely not 100% but I could still hear his vocals (for once).....You could tell he is still sick, but the set overall was very good. They definitely have perfected the older songs and you can tell they need to practice the new ones a little more:)

I didnt like SKSK that much, but There for Tomorrow was good enough as an opener and Straylight Run is usually pretty solid.....big shot hands in the sky is epic:)

TFT was so cute and a great opener. Got the energy and mood way up. The lead singer totally looks like Gerard Way IMO though.

I was honestly so not expecting and wishing for Big Shot that I nearly kicked it right there. Not as good as the recorded version, but very powerful. Overall I was a little underwhelmed by Straylight's performance, I really miss Michelle. They seemed stripped down, bare bones without her.

Scary Kids was everything I knew it would be. Any elegance that might be found in their music was definitely lost in the live performance. Horrid and thrashy with such nasty, douchey fans. It seemed like they all needed to get a big load in the face and come back down to earth. The guy on the keyboard was cute though, really feeling the energy and peppy. I wanted to give him a big hug.

Anberlin blew me away. Definitely worth waiting through the thrashing of the SKSK set. They set up a bunch of their own lights as well as the New Surrender backdrop. Stephen was totally reclusive and dramatic but so worth it. Very nice to the crowd, high energy and enthusiasm. Although the center mic was down too low for the first chunk of their set they eventually turned it up, but not enough in my opinion, it was hard to discern softer lyrics. The lights had a really good effect with the tone of their music, which turned the whole thing into a dance fest. They turned the lights down to blue for the acoustic sets which also helped with the mood. Overall an amazing experience. The friend I dragged with me is a new Anberlin fan and rightfully so. Definitely worth $18.

Set from 10/14 in SF:
Disappear
NTFP
Paperthin Hymn
A Day Late
Haight St.
Adelaide
Dismantle.Repair

Acoustic:
Inevitable
Cable Car

Hello Alone
The Feel Good Drag
The Resistance (GREAT live)
Godspeed

Encore:
(Fin)

First time I saw Anberlin headline after seeing them 4 times doing short sets. Best I've seen 'em, loved the longer set.
Crowd really could have been more into it, at least at the beginning, and there could have been more people there.
I'll blame the Tuesday night, but the kinda short set let me run and catch some Audrye Sessions a few blocks away. so That was awesome.

^ Ah, you made it to Audrye? I called my sister as soon as we got out but she said they were on their last song.
As to the merch question - the new black hoodie is $30, the custom white is $40.
I really think the Grand needs to work on their sound. I was right at the stage and couldn't hear any of the vocals except Straylight and the few acoustic songs Anberlin played. Kind of annoying, but it was a great set anyway...the crowd was practically dead for everything but them.

Also, I have to mention that Straylight Run put on possibly the least energetic set I've ever seen. No stage presence whatsoever. Really disappointing...I was expecting them to be far better than SKSK, who are not my thing at all, but Scary Kids were at least interesting to watch.

Audrye went on at 10:30 and only played 30 minutes before the encore.
I got there at the end of the last song - caught the encore, where Ryan did a song solo, and then they busted out an extended multi-instrumental (trombone, violine) added version of "Nothing Pure Can Stay" which was epic. They never played "The Paper Face" though which is odd.
Was a fun night.

I believe he was. There were like 7 or 8 people up on that little stage and beside it, I know there was a female violinist I hadn't seen, and this was the first time I'd seen 'em use a Trombone.
Was very cool.

I agree wholeheartedly on the sound issues. During Straylight Run I was standing next to one of the speakers, and what was coming out of the speaker was 3 or 4 seconds after John sang it. It made for one of the weirdest sounding sets I've ever witnessed.

And I was mildly disappointed that in going up front against the stage I wound up not being able to hear Stephen at all during Anberlin's set (which I thought was one of the better sets I've seen from them... I thought they were amazing last night).

It's funny what you said about Straylight Run and SKSK... while I'm not a fan of either really, I thought SLR was better than the last time I saw them, while SKSK didn't have nearly as much energy as they did when I've seen them in smaller venues.

alright so i am going to the tour on the 31st in MA. and here's the deal, there is a dennys in the town but no scheduled after party. the thing is that i really want the band to do one for my boyfriend for his birthday which is like a week later. does anyone know how i could pull this off? his dream is like have a conversation with stephen and i know that sounds lame but that would make his birthday. so any ideas?

Just wait after the show to talk to him. When I saw the Anberlin/Bayside tour last year, Stephen was out talking to people not 15 minutes after their set. I have met him numerous times and he has always been as nice as can be.

No really, at the Portland date the bus was right outside of the venue, I just didn't want to wait around. Also if there is an adjacent restaurant you might want to check there as well. Waiting by the buses is a pretty solid idea though, unless the band is in a shitty mood or a hurry or something. I'd definitely give it a shot though.

Also, I don't know if they've been doing this at the other shows prior...but There for Tomorrow was joined with Christian and Kyle and they played 'Take Cover' by Acceptance. It was pretty awesome.

Fuck, I'll go just for the Acceptance cover.

Is anyone going to the buffalo show? And I want to meet Anberlin before the show, how easy is it? How much is the merch on this tour also?

just came back from this, amazing!
there for tomorrow played acoustic cause christian their guitarist had a family emergency, but it sounded amazing still
straylight run was really good but they need to get someone to do background vocals
and sksk wasn't as bad as everyone on here has been saying, i enjoyed them but idk about them as people, i mean the bassist i think it was, was drinking beer on stage. i dont find that very professional and seriously you'll be off the stage soon enough cant that wait, oh well thats just my opinion
and then anberlin was amazing there are no words to describe it. stephan was back to doing the full set but i dont remember them doing sympathy before *fin

well i met stephan after the show and christian was randomly walking around beforehand. i say if you can get by the buses before the show you'll meet a couple of them.

shirts were $15 i believe, hoodie $35 and custom hoodie $40

nope, nothing off of blueprints...kinda weird how they played all of their NTFP songs so early in the set too. i've seen anberlin a few times and tonight was the best i've ever seen them though, i think the only thing that would have made their set better for me would've been a couple songs off of blueprint (glass to the arson would be nice) and reclusion.

i went last night in pontiac, michigan. good show. scary kids kinda bored me and gave me a huge headache....straylight run was good but the crowd was like dead and nobody knew the words... didnt watch there for tomorow....then anberlin came on and put on such a good show...they never disapoint me.

heres the set from what i can remember....and not in order

+a few others i cant remember

im sad they didnt play breaking or dance dance christa paffgan, or anything off blueprints, and not many new songs...

and finally after this being my 4th anberlin show i got to meet them through a meet and greet[which was great cause i didnt want to stand outside waiting for them after it was freezing cold and raining]. they were so nice and appreciative of everyone, it was so cute and we got tons of posters and they signed them.
heres pics if anyone cares..

Mathematics is not one of my favorite songs. I'd rather hear a song off of Blueprints or maybe Time and Confusion or Audrey.

I'm going tonight, and I was wondering if someone could post the bands' set times. I want to make it for at least the last half of Scary Kids' set. Anyone know what times the bands went on at their show? (Anyone from Buffalo?)
