One of our Regulars in here middlenameboom makes comics himself and they are pretty damn good, so do yourself a favor and check out his official website here (http://www.nextwildidea.com/neworlduniverse/) and his art blog here (http://neworlduniverse.blogspot.com/).
He also does a little podcast about anything and everything entertainment called BLANK OF THE WEEK you can check it out here (http://www.myspace.com/blankoftheweek) or here (http://web.mac.com/thomalanwalker/BlankOfTheWeek/HomePage/HomePage.html).
We here in the comics thread like to think of ourselves as something like Comic Book Evangelist spreading the good comic word everywhere we go. As such we have decided to compile a list of book's that we all agree should be read by anyone who enjoys or has the slightest inclination that they might enjoy to read comic's. The list will include books that are still currently coming out monthly and it will also include series have come and gone. Not to worry though they can all easily be read and caught up on in no time if you go out and read the TRADES, which are collection's of certain story arc's a series has had.
<< ALSO this is a fair warning we are making this list and putting it where you can find and easily view at your leisure. This is being done so that we don't have tp repeat ourselves over and over again when people want o know what to read. While I'm sure people will still ask us to recommend books, we are simply going to refer you to the first post. SO DON"T COME IN HERE AND SHOW YOUR ASS JUST BECAUSE WE TOLD YOU READ THE FIRST POST instead of compliing a list for you. now ENJOY>> However, Please feel free to ask which of these books would be the best fit for your tastes

Forced from their homelands by a despotic emperor bent on ruling all the known worlds, several characters famous in bedtime stories have settled in Modern Day New York. Run by the overworked Snow White, and policed by a reformed Big Bad(called Bigby) Wolf, these immigrants deal with life in the Mundy World, while hoping to find their way back into the Homelands. Filled with fleshed out versions of characters you know and love, and some you loathe, this book is seriously one of the best on the market. Read it, or we'll blow your house down.

How would you survive in a world without the every day conveniences of our life? How about one populated by the reanimated dead? This book is less about the zombies, and more about the interactions of people adjusting to such a lifestyle. And simply put, this book will break your heart on a constant basis. There are so many characters to whom you attach yourself, only to see them meet their violent and bitter end. If you like character driven horror, pick this title up. You'll laugh, you'll cry, you'll love The Walking Dead. Only you won't laugh. At all.

Y the Last Man #1 - 60
Written by Brian K. Vaughan
Pencils by Pia Guerra (and others)
Vertigo Comics
http://bookdweeb.files.wordpress.com/2008/05/ythelastman.jpg
Written by Brian K. Vaughan of Lost fame and drawn by the incomparable Pia Guerra, this is a story of when all of the world’s men die in one incredibly terrible day. Of course it isn’t really about that, it’s how the world’s last boy becomes the world’s last man. We follow Yorick Brown after that day in a journey across the world as he is trying to find the love of his life with his trusty bodyguard 355, renowned scientist Dr. Mann, and sidekick du jour and best friend, capuchin monkey Ampersand. This book is infused with pop culture references, hilarious one liners, tragedy, comedy, and basically everything you could possibly want from a comic. Vaughan and Guerra manage to make this outlandish plot work by never treating it as that – the world they create doesn’t feel just possible, but real. That’s the hidden genius of the story. This is a must read for all comic fans, and really, all fans of stories.

Preacher #1 - 66
Written by Garth Ennis
Pencils by Steve Dillon
Vertigo Comics
http://weblogs.variety.com/photos/uncategorized/preacher.jpg
This comic is not for everyone. Not by any means. However, for those who can handle some extremely off the wall situations, absurd characters, and some rather extreme blasphemy, well, have I got the comic for you. This is the saga of Reverend Jesse Custer and his girlfriend Tulip and Irish vampire buddy Cassidy, as they go on a journey to, simply put, make God atone for his sins. In this incredibly rich universe full of three dimensional yet bizarre characters Garth Ennis (the Punisher, Hitman) has created an absolutely hilarious and wondrously dense story that crosses every boundary created by comics in the past and that came after it. Steve Dillon (the Punisher, Wolverine: Origins) pencils every issue in his standard clean and realistic fashion that is the perfect pairing for Ennis’ words, making the visuals on par with the written word in this story.
Long story short, you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll want to shower afterwards.
-fluke182
Often times in comic books, a writer will come out with a story that literally defines the word epic. A story that, from the very first issue to the very last issue, features such fantastic writing and characters that you can't help but be gripped into the world presented to you. Preacher is that kind of a story. In 1995, Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon brought us this amazing tale of Jesse Custer, a former preacher who gains the power of a God from an unknown source known as Genesis. Learning that God has abandoned his post in Heaven, Jesse, along with his ex-girlfriend from another life Tulip and a crazy Irishman who is more than meets the eye named Cassidy, set out to find God and make him and pay for what he has done and deal with the world he has created. Filled with fantastic villains, wild conspiracies, lovable side characters and presented as a modern day western, Preacher is the definition of an epic with everything you could want in a story. A must read.

This slacker/wannabe rock star has a new girlfriend, but in order to win her love, he must first defeat her seven evil exes in combat. Filled with smart references, one-liners, and great, 3-dimensional characters, this book is a must own. It's also refreshing to read a book that never EVER takes itself too seriously, and is just a blast to read.

Godzilla? Check! Regardless of the fact that these stories are some of the best single issues of comics, the characters alone or with the ticket. Disfigured in an accident as a Child the Goon beats the crap out of any one that's gets in his way. With his wise cracking side-kick Franky giving Knife's to the eye left and right. Just a ton fun, and good for anyone interested in laughing, and giant spiders who wear top hats.

In short, The World's Greatest Paranormal Investigator. Hellboy is the son of a demon, and a witch. Who was brought to earth by a Nazi experiment. He travels the world as a paranormal investigator. Sometimes it's with the government agency BPRD and sometimes alone, but it's always great. He's fights all kinds of mythical creatures, and demons. Hellboy is heavily influenced by Lovecraftian Lore and often finds himself fighting giant monsters straight out of a Lovecraft book. The character of Hellboy is the part of the series, with a dry wit, and clever one liners, who's the coolest demon you're see. He was also named by Wizard as one of the 10 best comic characters of all time. Hellboy is composed of several mini series, and a number of short stories. Of all them are amazing. It's hard to do this comic justice in a short paragraph because it so immense, and well written. In short, you should be reading this book!

Invincible
Writer: Robert Kirkman
Pencilers: Cory Walker (issues 1-7) and Ryan Ottley (issue 8- current)
colorist: Bill Crabtree
IMAGE
http://www.dynamicforces.com/images/ComInvincibleLibVol1HC.jpg
Invincible is Robert Kirkman and Cory Walker's (who turned the reign's over to Ryan Ottley in issue #8) 2003 seminal contemporary super-hero tale that chronicles the adventures and misgivings of young superhero Mark Grayson AKA Invincible. Mark, being the progeny of his super-hero father Omni-Man, is characterized as an enthusiastic youth exploring his own role as a prominent super-hero complete with subtle homages to Spider-Man. An array of unique yet archetypal characters makes this comic very likable, and the simplicity of the Image universe that Invincible re-defined also makes it extremely easy to jump into, flavored with Kirkman's uncanny ability to inject humor and intrigue. Buysoap is a nub. It's a good place to start from if you have just started reading comics, particularly in super-hero genre. At the time of writing this summary (9/06/2008) would be a great time to read Invincible as it has just pulled itself out of pre-issue 50 delay slump and the series is chugging along nicely complete with a new costume and a new colorist. Ryan Ottley's art is stylish, youthful and energetic, his action scenes are wonderful and the book would not be top-notch stuff without it. Don't expect deep allegory, introspective expository, or a philosophical message, Invincible is mostly a surface romp, that's playfully violent (pretty gory, but not repulsive or tasteless) and quickly enjoyable.

Fear Agent #1-
Written by Rick Remender
Pencils by Tony Moore & Jerome Opena
Image Comics (#1-11) / Dark Horse Comics (#12-)
http://www.rickremender.com/new/cutenews/data/upimages/main2.jpg
Bloodthirsty aliens, femme fatales, Mark Twain and fishbowl helmets are four things terms that could be used to describe Rick Remender's (The End League, The All-New Atom) flagship title: Fear Agent, a book that has carried the writer from humble beginnings at Image Comics to a force to be reckoned with at Dark Horse. Heath Huston is the last of the Texas Fear Agents and whiskey loving cowboy traveling at random through the stars when a run-of-the-mill bounty takes him on an unending adventure to save the remnants of his race; A journey that may be more than he gambled for. Fortunately for Heath and his spaceship (And only friend), Annie; Heath always seems to catch his break. Fear Agent is a tour de force of B-rate Sci-Fi reminiscent of EC comic’s brilliantly creative violence and Samuel Beckett cynicism. The title comes equipped with gorgeous art by the great Tony Moore (The Walking Dead vol. 1, Battle Pope) and soon-to-be-famous newcomer Jerome Opena. If you’re a fan of pessimistic romance set in deep space or giant killer robots getting an old fashioned ass whopping from a freeze-ray gun, Fear Agent is most definitely for you.

They say that crime doesn't pay, and this book just might be trying to give a whole new meaning to that saying. Each story in this series introduces new and despicable characters that you will find yourself wanting to catch a bullet rather than actually succeeding in whatever scheme they are involved with. This series is the brain child of the superstar team of Brubaker (Captain America) and Phillips (Marvel Zombies) and together they have created a dark unforgiving view of the world. If you like reading about crime or maybe you're just are a fan of great story telling then CRIMINAL is for you. Crime may not pay but you should pay to read about good crime.

Bone #1 - 55
Written and drawn by Jeff Smith
Cartoon Books
http://media.collegepublisher.com/media/paper301/stills/5p33r7t8.jpg
Jeff Smith’s epic saga is what you get when you fuse together Lord of the Rings and Peanuts, except it accentuates the ambitious nature of the former and the hilarity of the latter. This book follows the Fone brothers as they attempt to get back home after getting lost in a valley torn by war between the humans (and other valley folk) and the rat creatures. Even though it’s been produced by Scholastic after its initial run, this is not a children’s book. This is deep with themes relating to life, death, the strength of family, and exceeding ones place in the world. Plus it’s effing hilarious and features some of the richest characters ever in the sequential art medium.

Dara is a normal girl, well, almost normal. One night, three massively powered individuals break into her home at dinner looking for someone named "Demitrios" because he has their sword. Killing her family in the process, and leaving her to die in a fire. But in the blaze, she finds The Sword. Which heals her of all of her injuries, including her paralysis, which she has had for two years. On the run from these strangers, along with a couple friends, she is learning about the legend of the people responsible for the death of her family, along with the mystical weapon she now posesses. If you like violent, fantasy-based action, this is definitely the book for you. Especially if you don't want a long commitment. It's planned as a 4 arc, 24 issues series. It's got excellent pacing, and a well thought out script.

Blankets
Written and drawn by Craig Thompson
Top Shelf Productions
http://www.topshelfcomix.com/catalog/previews/blankets/blankets_01.jpg
Craig Thompson did everything in this book, his magnum opus even though it is his only his second work. It is a semi autobiographical story of what it was like growing up for him. About finding out that he doesn’t necessarily believe in God, about falling in love for the first time, about realizing your dreams. This is the ultimate coming of age tale, and it’s told in an incredibly candid fashion by Thompson. It’s outdone by his art, which really abandons all traditional comic layouts to provide a truly unique and dream like appearance throughout to really capture Thompson’s perpetual daydreaming. This book is one of the best books I’ve ever read about growing up, and I like to imagine some day that it will be required reading for high schools and/or college lit classes.

DC BOOKS
Kingdom Come #1 - 4
Written by Mark Waid
Art by Alex Ross
DC Comics
http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/marvel_dc/images/thumb/6/6e/Kingdom_Come_1.jpg/300px-Kingdom_Come_1.jpg
This is the definitive DC story. No other story more perfectly encapsulates the dynamic of the heroes of the DC universe like this, whether you’re referring to the God like status of Superman, the perfection of Wonder Woman, the calculative nature of Batman, or even the child-in-a-god’s-body Captain Marvel. This tale gives us the perspective of a minster named Norman McCay as we stand close to the precipice of the apocalypse. The world’s heroes have abandoned us after the new generation came in and proved that they will cross lines the old generation wouldn’t (No Country for Old Superheroes?), but with the Earth in peril what will the old heroes do? Waid does a very good job of telling this epic story in a fashion of perpetual awe, really putting us in the place of McCay throughout, but Alex Ross and his absolutely incredible art steals the show. His painted vistas and utterly legendary renditions of the DC heroes are universally renowned as some of the best art the medium has ever produced. That alone is reason enough to pick up this book
-fluke182
Kingdom Come is one of the most fantastic things you can read if only for the artwork. It is the story of our favorite heroes 20 years in the future and the heroes we have come to know and love are gone. Superman has hung up his cape after the death of Lois Lane and lives away from the world in his fortress of solitude. With Superman gone, superpeople begin to have a hard time defining the line between hero and villain and begin openly battling in the street, causing more chaos and putting the world into a dark state. When one of the new "heroes," Magog, ends up destroying the state of Kansas, Wonder Woman steps forward and coaxes Superman to come back, which in turn sets off a chaotic string of events which parallel the apocalyptic tale held within the Book Of Revelation. The story is told through the eye of a minister named Norman McCay, who is taken by the Spectre to view the events that are to pass and help him pass judgement on the coming Apocalypse. This book is a phenomenal read and worth the money for the artwork alone, as Alex Ross's paintings are some of the most beautiful visuals in any modern comic. For those that enjoy their comics with a side of scripture, or just those who enjoy their comics with a healthy dose of Apocalypse, this book is for you.

DC: The New Frontier
Written and Penciled by Darwyn Cooke
DC Comics
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/62/DCNEWFRONTIER6.jpg
Darywn Cooke's most notable work is DC: The New Frontier, in which he bridges the gap between the golden and silver ages of comics. Taking place in the 1950s and featuring Darwyn Cooke's unique artistry, this story is very reminiscent of what Watchmen might have been if it had featured DC's normal heroes. Superheroics not sanctioned by the government are not condoned by the government and the only prominent registered heroes are Superman and Wonder Woman. J'onn J'onzz, the Martian Manhunter, is brought to Earth and he begins to live in the shadows, watching and studying and growing accustomed to our ways. We also get to follow Hal Jordan as he goes from being a pilot at Ferris Air to the intergalactic supercop we all know and love him by, the Green Lantern. The intertwining tales of Cold War prejudice and post-WWII life in America eventually coincide when the aforementioned heroes, along with Batman and the Flash as well as others, all unite to defeat an alien menace that had been laying dormant on our planet for centuries. This book was eventually made into a movie known as Justice League: The New Frontier, which is equally as excellent, but for the full scale of wonder one must take the time to read the book. The supplementary reading material and tales paint the story in much more vivid color, as well as making sure no stone is left unturned. If you didn't much care for DC Comics before, DC: The New Frontier will help bring you into the universe and give appreciation to all of it's many characters.

Hitman #1 - 60
Written by Garth Ennis
Pencils by John McCrea
DC Comics
Hitman is the story of Tommy Monaghan, a Gulf War veteran who was granted powers by an invading alien race. Well, actually, it really isn’t. When it gets down to it, it’s about a hitman named Tommy who hangs with his boy Natt and the other denizens of “Noonan’s Sleazy Bar,” takes hits on local Gotham City metahumans, annoys Batman, and befriends Superman. Because of his locale and his clientele, he runs into all kinds ridiculous enemies – from mob bosses who live on toilets to dinosaur warlords to gods. Of course, they are nothing in comparison to his allies, such as Six Pack (a dude who thinks he was given powers by aliens), Baytor (the former Lord of Insanity from Hell who is now a bartender at Noonan’s), and best of all, Dogwelder (he welds dogs to evil doers).
That is of course only some of the types of things you’ll run into in the book. Ennis delivers stories in humorous ways, but Monaghan is one of the most interesting and well rounded protagonists in comic history. Whether it’s reminiscing about war with Natt, dealing with the love of his life Tiegel, or giving life advice to Superman, Monaghan never ceases to be more than you expect. This is a great book that combines action, surprising amounts of romance, and sheer ludicrousness in one superb package.

GREEN LANTERN
Green Lantern: Rebirth
Written by Geoff Johns
Illustrated by Ethan Van Sciver
http://www.vikingscloset.com/catalog/images/Green%20Lantern%20rebirth.jpg
All things considered, when it comes to the Green Lantern, Hal Jordan is the man. The first human in the Green Lantern Corps, Hal Jordan is by far and large one of the best characters in the DC universe. Unfortunately, in 1994, DC decided that they wanted a new Green Lantern since there had been no change since 1959 in order to attract younger readers, and so the Emerald Twilight arc began in which Hal Jordan goes insane after the destruction of Coast City and becomes the villain Parallax, reigns massive destruction upon the Guardians and the Corps. He then tried to destroy all existence in Zero Hour. All things consider, Hal is a pretty bad guy here. However, in 1996, in the "Final Night" miniseries, DC gave him a shot at redemption, killing him finally, and in 1999 Hal Jordan became the new host of The Spectre. In 2004, DC finally gave Hal a shot to reclaim his title as number one Green Lantern, and thanks to Geoff Johns we have just that. Rebirth tells the story of Hal's ultimate redemption for his crimes as Parallax and his freedom from duty as the Spectre and sheds a lot of light on the events that happened in 1994 as well as being the start of an epic Green Lantern trilogy and setting up one of the best on going series in the DC Universe today. A must read for any Green Lantern fan, and it goes quite well hand in hand with Green Lantern Corps: Recharge. -buysoap
Sinestro Corps War
Written by Geoff Johns and Dave Gibbons
Illustrated by Ivan Reis and Ethan Van Sciver
http://www.jonathankuehlein.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/green-lantern-the-sinestro-corps-war-v1.jpg
Based on an old Alan Mooreconcept, the second part of the Green Lantern trilogy, The Sinestro Corps War 100% changed the fundamentals of how we look at the Lantern Corps. A second corps arises, the Sinestro Corps, led by the villain and former ace Green Lantern, Sinestro (how anyone didn't think he would eventually be a villain is beyond me...). Their color is Yellow (Green's main weakness) and their main emotion is fear. Sinestro sends his army out to destroy the Green Lantern Corps and spread fear through the galaxy. Teamed with Superman Prime, Cyborg Superman and the Manhunters, a new version of Parallax, and the return of the Anti-Monitor (from Crisis on Infinite Earth), Sinestro succesfully begins to destroy everything we held dear in an ultimate display of power. This epic 11 part story spread through both the normal Green Lantern books and the Green Lantern Corps books, and what is important to note is that this is the book that finally expanded on the emotional spectrum concept of the Lanterns. Because of it, we now have 5 new colors, which not only adds to the depth of the story but also sets up for 2009 and the final part of the trilogy, The Blackest Night, which promises to be epic beyond all belief. If you haven't caught up in Green Lantern stories, now would definitely be the time to do so. -buysoap
SUPERMAN
Red Son
Written by Mark Millar
Illustrated by Dave Johnson
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/d/dd/Supermanredson.jpg
What's nice about DC is that there are 52 DC universes, all parallel to one another, featuring all the same characters, but with re-inventions. Superman is by far and large one of the most popular characters to re-invent. Seeing as his power is somewhat limitless, there are many aspects to explore about him. Mark Millar did just that in Red Son where, instead of landing in Smallville, Kal-El's interstellar rocket landed in the Soviet Union and is raised with Communist ideals as part of Stalin's inner circle. All things considered, this is probably one of the best alt-Superman stories around. Featuring a killer cast of an uber-brilliant Lex Luthor, a communist Wonder Woman, an anarchist Batman, and the best Superman villain of all, Bizarro, Red Son breathes new life into the characters and creates an amazing world. The best part of Red Son is that it shows the far extent that Superman's character can go. Growing up with American ideals, Superman was always held back by the instilled notions of liberty and justice for all. However, with communist ideals, Superman lacks the morality he had in America and can finally explore some of the more awesome elements of essentially being a God on planet Earth. Definitely a book anyone interested in the dynamics of Superman's character should read. -buysoap

YEAR ONE
The Long Halloween
Written by Jeph Loeb
Pencils by Tim Sale
DC Comics
http://media.filmschoolrejects.com/images/long-halloween.jpg
Superstar team up, Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale’s (Daredevil: Yellow, Dark Victory) The Long Halloween is the sequel to Frank Millar’s 80’s Batman classic, Batman: Year One and serves as a heavy influence for Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight (2008). Focusing heavily on disputes between Gotham City’s rival crime family, The Long Halloween introduces us to Bruce Wayne’s early years of being The Caped Crusader and carries with it an array of villains from Batman’s impressive rogue gallery, not to mention the origin story of district attorney Harvey Dent as his malicious gangster alter-ego, Two-Face. Dark like Batman should be in a classic style with a James Cagney gangster sensibility that nobody can do quite like Tim Sale, The Long Halloween shines as a staple of DC Comics.
DARK VICTORY
Hush
Written by Jeph Loeb
Illustrated by Jim Lee
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/59/BatmanHush.jpg
Often times in Marvel and DC comics, we see re-inventions of classic villains more often than new villains. This is simply because a lot of the villains now don't measure up to old ones, and no matter what there are always new angles to explore in a villain's past. This is not always the case, however, as the 2002 story Hush definitely showed that new villains can be just as epic. Introducing the eponymous character, Hush told a story in which many of Batman's classic rogues gallery beginning to act out in odd ways with someone pulling the strings in the background. This story is very classic Batman, featuring the Dark Knight both as an extremely muscular crime fighter and the intelligent and poised detective. The scope of this story is also pretty epic, spanning from the sewers of Gotham to the skyscrapers of Metropolois. Along with bringing forth a new and supremely sinister villain, the story re-introduced a character to the series who had been long out of commission (so to speak) in a twist that was not fully explained until later. Either way, Hush is worth the read if only for the introduction of the character and one of the most epic plots against Batman. -buysoap

Numerous times over, this book has been hailed as the best comic out there for young readers. The tagline for this comic is something along the lines of "Every kid thinks there parents are evil, but what if you found out that this was really true". A group of kids find out that there parents are actually a group of super villians, so they runaway, and vow to stop them. All the kids slowly find out they themselves actually have powers. From super-strength, to flight to the ability to psychically communicate with a dinosaur. The comic is incredibly engaging, and the reveal at the end of volume was will hit you out of no where. With some of the best art you've ever seen to boot, you should really check this out, if you are looking for a cool hip modern comic, geared at your age demo.

EARTH X, UNIVERSE X, and PARADISE X
Ultimates 1+2
Written by Mark Millar
Illustrated by Bryan Hitch
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/47/The_Ultimates2_issue1.jpg
When the Ultimate universe was introduced, it was a way for Marvel to essentially re-invent itself 100% for new readers to get into what with all the new movies. Helmed by top notch writers like Mark Millar and Brian Michael Bendis, the Ultimate imprint started as if nothing happened before that in Marvel continuity, and the Ultimates 1 and 2 is a prime example of exactly what this world is capable of. Featuring absolutely stellar artwork by Bryan Hitch and amazing writing by Millar, the Ultimates is the re-imagined version of the Avengers and it's positively phenomenal. All the characters hold true to basic elements of their origins, but the Ultimates tale is much more real to our Earth than the classic Avengers tales, and it is the Ultimates which features the black Samuel L Jackson inspired Nick Fury who will soon be kicking ass on screen in 2011 in the Avengers movie. Ultimates 1 and 2 essentially comprise of 4 arcs: the forming of the Ultimates, their first great battle, the global aftermath of their creation and that first battle, and finally, the most epic battle of all time. The last issue of Ultimates 2, while delayed as all Hell, featured the most epic artwork ever seen in a comic. For anyone who is new to the Marvel universe and who doesn't want to go through over 50 years of back history, there is no better place to start than the Ultimates in seeing what modern superhero comics is capable of. -buysoap
ULTIMATE SPIDER-MAN
Daredevil vol.2 #1-81
Written by Brian Micheal Bendis, Kevin Smith, David Mack
Pencils by Alex Maleev, Joe Quesada, David Mack
Marvel Comics
http://img31.imageshack.us/img31/4139/dd76cov9bl.jpg
Kevin Smith (Green Arrow) is well-known as the mastermind behind the “New Jersey Chronicles” of Jay, Silent Bob and co. Brian Micheal Bendis (Ultimate Spider-Man, New Avengers) has already fashioned himself well into a modern comic legacy. Take these two fabulous writers and put them up against Marvel king, Joe Quesada, prolific artist Alex Maleev and comic visionary David Mack and what do you get? The modern reboot of Daredevil, an amazing tale of how blind lawyer, Matt Murdock’s life became an absolute hell on earth. You take two teaspoons of noir, a cup of pulp, a dash of classic gangster sensibility and throw in a colorful array of vigilantes and backwater super villains and then bake for eighty one issues with the turmoil on high and enjoy. This is simply Daredevil at its best, this is Kingpin at its best, this is Hell’s Kitchen at its best. The storylines are fresh and engaging, the art will take your breath away, and every character begs to be either loved or despised. For fans of Alias, The Pulse or just comic books in general, this epic run of Daredevil is the perfect example of a modern comic book masterpiece that is sure to be held up and appreciated through the ages.

Archeologist of the Unknown, and the ghosts of the 20th century. If you're interested in the secret history of the world this comic is for you. Secret Race of Amazons, Check. Alien Artifacts, Check. Godzilla? Check! Regardless of the fact that these stories are some of the best single issues of comics, the characters alone or with the ticket. Elijah Snow is possibly one of the best comic characters ever created, wise cracking, but immensely deep at the same time. This comic is for anyone who is curious about the curiosities of the world.

Disfigured in an accident as a Child the Goon beats the crap out of any one that's gets in his way. With his wise cracking side-kick Franky giving Knife's to the eye left and right. Just a ton fun, and good for anyone interested in laughing, and giant spiders who wear top hats.

Preacher
http://www.fantomcomics.com/Preacher1.jpg
Written by Garth Ennis
Pencils by Steve Dillon
Vertigo
Kingdom Come

Written by Mark Ward

DC Comics
I will do more later.

Preacher #1 - 66
Written by Garth Ennis
Pencils by Steve Dillon
Vertigo Comics
This comic is not for everyone. Not by any means. However, for those who can handle some extremely off the wall situations, absurd characters, and some rather intense blasphemy, well, have I got the comic for you. This is the saga of Reverend Jesse Custer, his girlfriend Tulip and Irish vampire buddy Cassidy, as they go on a journey to, simply put, make God atone for his sins.
Kingdom Come #1 - 4
Written by Mark Waid
Art by Alex Ross
DC Comics
That alone is reason enough to pick up this book.

speaking of con's my brother, who is a high school teacher, told me yeserday that the theme for home coming this year is SUPER HEROES, seniors are Villins, Juniors are Heroes, Sophmers are X-men, and freshmen are Avevngers. Man I would have killed for this theme back in high school. he teaches sophmors and they told him that they thought wolverine was the only x-man, I might need to return to my old high school and give these kids awesome advice for what to do.
I still haven't read Casanova, but I heard nothing but amazing things about it.

Pride Of Baghdad
Written by Brian K Vaughn, Illustrated by Nico Henrichon
http://images.amazon.com/images/P/1401203140.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
Ever wonder what the Lion King would be like if it was Rated R? Yeah me neither, but hey this is kind of it, and it's strangely great. Based on the actual story of A pride of Lions who got loose from a Baghdad zoo during the bombing of Baghdad. The lions escape and then communicate with the wildfire life they find as they roam through Baghdad. Critically acclaimed, and often regarded as one of the best commentaries on the war on Iraq. An original graphic novel written by Lost writter Brian K Vaughn.
Runaways Vol. 1+ 2
Written by Brian K Vaughn, Illustrated by Adrian Alphona
http://randomencounters.files.wordpress.co m/2008/05/442px-runaways_main.jpg

I'm really surprised Invincible wasn't mentioned in the post, it's a great book for new readers to jump into and a great general introduction to superhero comics. Granted, I think it's been crap as of recent, but it's a pillar of Image's superhero line now and it's really easy to get into.

Go for it. Write a review for Invincible. I don't know if anyone else here has read it, but I personally didn't really enjoy it. I feel like it's one of the most overrated books out there. I only read about the first 20 issues, but I just felt like the writing was really amateurish. Kirkman is so hit or miss for me.

you can't stand Ultimate FF or the FF in general??
I love Dynamo 5, especially the concept. The thing about Jay Faerber is that he comes up with the absolutely BEST concepts, but he has trouble keeping the series fresh or honestly following through with a concept. Take Noble cause's for example a great concept that he has done a great job of reinventing twice but he has failed to make the series contiue to strive.
I agree with what you say about it not being established enough.

Just finished Red Son. It definitely got better. The first part just seemed really slow. The 2nd part with Batman was by far the best. My biggest problem was it seemed like Millar over exaggerated both Superman and Luthor's powers. It seemed like Superman was way more powerful than he is the regular DCU and that Luthor was almost too smart. I liked the cyclical ending, but thought it would have been cooler if he landed in Kansas at the end instead of back in the Ukraine.

I think the reason he did this was a smart one. Without American values instilled in him by the Kent's (don't kill, human life is precious) Superman wouldn't restrain himself, thus giving him the seeming power boost. I feel like Supes in DCU really is that powerful, he just doesn't use it.

Hahaha, UXM is my second least favorite book out of all the Ultimate books, tied right down there with FF. They both went severely down hill and evolved into plots I just didn't are about or for. The Banshee stuff was ridiculous. I mean, I read and have read every single book in the Ultimate universe because I'm a completionist, but God damn. It's almost as bad as Ultimate Adventures!

Be that as it may, the book still has improved over Kirkman's run. The Banshee thing didn't bother me too much. It's gone from being a bad to a mediocre book. I'm the same as you, I'm still on the title pretty much b/c I've been reading since issue one.
Carey's FF got so bad I couldn't bare to read it. Which is weird. Carey either tells a great superhero story or an atrocious one. There's no middle ground with him.
The only book in the line that's of any quality remains to be Ultimate Spidey.
I'm excited for Ultimatum as it's going to clean house. Loeb being the primary writer makes me nervous. I'm hoping he'll finally spin a good tale for Marvel, but his track record's been unimpressive as of late. Hulk, Ultimates 3, and lest we forget...Onslaught Reborn? Yikes.

Yikes.
Pretty much agreed on all accounts, although I'm not crazy about Ultimate Spidey. I actually enjoyed Ultimates 3 except for the art, and I don't think anyone can really deny the awesomeness of issue 3 where Magneto fucking tooled on everybody and beat the shit out of Thor. That was awesome. These days I'm not a big fan of the Ultimate books except for Origins, which I love. I am really looking for to Ultimatum, like I said, but honestly, I would be no matter who wrote it because it's Magento and Doom. To me, that just equals automatic awesome. And I haven't read any of Loeb's stuff as the Hulk because it gets bad mouthed so much. I was intrigued at the concept of Red Hulk, but yeah.

I was intrigued by Red Hulk as well...then I read the first two issues. Suffice to say, I am no longer intrigued.
I'm loving Origins as well.
One of my favorite Doctor Doom moments came from Ultimate FF. It was when he transported himself and the Marvel (at the time not irritating and overexposed) zombies back to the MZ Earth. Greg Land has this huge, amazing splash of the zombies over Galactus' corpse and Doom just mutters to himself "Hmmph. This should be a challenge."
Bad.Ass.

Hahaha, fuck yeah Doom. When they allowed you to play as Doom in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, I shat bricks. Needless to say, I powerhoused the fuck out of that game with Doom as my main character. Now I have this uber-powerful and unstoppable Dr. Doom, and whenever I play with my friends the get mad because I just walk around levels decimating everything. If they tell me to stop I switch to Magneto and they continue to be annoyed at me.

My friend, Stephem, who works at the local comic book shop has the same fanaticism concerning doom. He has a really cool Doom sketchbook. Whenever he meets an artist at a con or becomes acquainted with a local artist, he has them do their take on Doom in his sketchbook. It's very cool.
And those Bowen statues of Doom are fucking golden: both the one where he's seated on a throne and the one where her's standing atop a castle tower.

I'm doing the same thing with the Flash. I do the same, although, with the exception of Ultimate Spidey, I always end up asking myself why.
Like that Ultimate FF/X-Men mess? Bleh. A few cool moments in a pretty haywire story.
I buy them cause the Ultimate annual trades I don't buy, and the other books might not be collected in their series trades so I buy them
Hahaha, UXM is my second least favorite book out of all the Ultimate books, tied right down there with FF. They both went severely down hill and evolved into plots I just didn't are about or for. The Banshee stuff was ridiculous. I mean, I read and have read every single book in the Ultimate universe because I'm a completionist, but God damn. It's almost as bad as Ultimate Adventures!
That being said, I am super pumped for Ultimatum because I have a nerd boner for Magneto and Doctor Doom.

On the previous subject of Loeb, none of his recent Marvel work has done anything for me. Although listening to Bendis talk about their arguments on The Bendis Tapes is endlessly fascinating.

Some guy over at the Mike Mignola board at CBR has one for Hellboy. I also have a sketch book that I just started, but I have been getting all my favorite characters from my favorite artists. Invincible is Robert Kirkman and Ryan Ottley's 2003 seminal contemporary super-hero tale that chronicles the adventures and misgivings of young superhero Mark Grayson AKA Invincible.
Btw, I never mentioned this, but I really, really like Invincible. It's a great book and I don't know how I forgot to mention it as one of my favorites on here. I don't think it dropped off as bad as you did going in to issue 50, but it's really picked up on issues 51 and 52. I always liked to say it was the best Spider Man book on the market.
Of course, since Blue Beetle started, I think that one actually ended up taking the cake. Not that Invincble is not as good, but Blue Beetle just fills the niche of that type of book more accurately.

Mad Men is excellent.
I don't like crime dramas either, nor do I like police procedurals, urban dramas, drug-related anything, but The Wire remains the absolute best show of all time. I've seen all of Lost to date and it's the afterthought of an ant by comparison. Lost fails, first of all . . . to be relevant in any way. It also lacks the emotional and societal complexity of The Wire. I won't go even go into realism. By the way, this is coming from someone who thoroughly enjoys Lost. You are depriving yourself of what could easily be the most rewarding television experience you may ever have by just labeling The Wire as a crime drama and not watching it. I am always open for a discussion and the occasional candid debate, but I am unrelenting on this one matter. I really like this quote from wikipedia, I think it sums it up nicely:
"The Wire has never won an Emmy?" said Joe Klein of Time magazine in 2007. "The Wire deserves a Nobel Prize for Literature!"

I wouldn't say that at all. LOST is one of the best dramas on TV ever. I'm sure it's isn't as emotionally and socially raw as The Wire, but it is a very emotion and socially complicated show in a different way. In terms of realism, it's of course not meant to be a realistic show.

The show finished after season 5 so there's no commitment beyond it and I was merely setting Lost against The Wire, not saying it completely lacks the same qualities.
Now this . . . see this is where things get fuzzy. Of course Lost's mysteries aren't realistic, but every form of storytelling must maintain a level of realism in order to work (at least this is so in terms of popular media). The characters must be real in some way, their emotional responses, needs, desires, and interactions must be realistic within their fictional world. People tend not to watch a show or movie if it's populated by characters they can't relate to.

It's a little of both. Each episode is it's own individual story, but the investment from watching all of the show adds to the enjoyment and you better understand the overall situations and characters. But it isn't required. You could easily get into it and pick up on a lot. Then once you would go back, the stories would be expanded for you.

Oh ok. It does seem like a great show. I look forward to getting into it at some point.
That's actually the genius of LOST, those character are forced to deal with something extraordinary and have it impact them. Their emotional responses, needs and desires are directly related to story which the more supernatural aspect helps facilitate. It uses these massive themes like belief, faith, and redemption to directly correspond with the extra-normal situations and vice-versa. I could name so many examples of this. There's a lot of relevance to LOST. The show is far more of a drama with elements of sci-fi.

switching back to comics; the first issue of the IDW Ghostbusters series comes out this week, which begs the question-- who the fuck is going to buy that? i mean, i liked Ghosbusters when i was a kid, but there's certain licensed properties that i have a hard time believing will be a viable comic book.
things like Star Wars, GI Joe, and Transformers have long standing comic book traitions at this point, and Buffy had a hungry built in fan base, but Ghostbusters?
with this in mind, i'm curious, what licensed property comic books do you guys all think are retarded/utter bullshit, which ones are great, and what should exist in comic book form that does not?

Sinestro Corps War, Red Son, Hush, and Ultimates 1+2. If anyone wants me not to, now would be the time to say so before I start, hahahaha
Go ahead and do those man, although I don't know if Hush belongs on the front page with the rest of those. I'm that guy that doesn't like Hush. I think I will also do a few write ups, perhaps for Sleeper and Transmetropolitan amongst others.
switching back to comics; the first issue of the IDW Ghostbusters series comes out this week, which begs the question-- who the fuck is going to buy that? i mean, i liked Ghosbusters when i was a kid, but there's certain licensed properties that i have a hard time believing will be a viable comic book.
things like Star Wars, GI Joe, and Transformers have long standing comic book traitions at this point, and Buffy had a hungry built in fan base, but Ghostbusters?
with this in mind, i'm curious, what licensed property comic books do you guys all think are retarded/utter bullshit, which ones are great, and what should exist in comic book form that does not?
personally, i would like to see some Monkey Island comic books.
I think Ghostbusters is a ridiculous concept for a comic. I mean, from a sheer marketing standpoint. There isn't exactly a lot of people clamoring to further explore that universe.
I just finished reading the Road by Cormac McCarthy, and I know it may defeat the insular nature of the story but I would totally dig a comic that showed us what happened to the world. What a gnarly dystopian world McCarthy created with that book.
Also, I'm almost always impressed by the Star Wars output. George Lucas should have hired those comic writers to write the prequel trilogy. We'd all be better off if that happened.

4) My respect for you and your opinion just lit itself on fire and jumped out the window on the 13th floor of a very tall building.
I just personally like my TV shows to go somewhere. Chuck and Big Bang Theory, are essentially just sitcoms, at the end of every episode, the status quo is the same as it was at the beginning of the episode, no matter how much they try and trick into thinking that it's not. Heroes has a progressing story line, but it back peddles so much, that it's the most annoying thing to watch. It builds up characters and plots and then either kills them off or restarts them. It makes no sense. I think Tim Kring is actually a 12 year old boy trying to write his feeble attempt at a super hero story. Gossip Girl at least has a continuous plot line that is not predictable. Plus hot girls.

Alright you and me Gil! I've seen those pictures of you and Sophia Bush. She's reason enough to watch that show. Though it's getting tough. OTH has been pretty terrible this season.
Why does a show have to be relevant or realistic to be valid or good. Those aren't good arguments. And the best show of all time is Roswell! or Futurama.
Also, you're all wrong.
Battlestar Galactica is the best show on television.
BSG has sucked noodles this season.

If you're refferring to this:
The show finished after season 5 so there's no commitment beyond it and I was merely setting Lost against The Wire, not saying it completely lacks the same qualities.
Now this . . . see this is where things get fuzzy. Of course Lost's mysteries aren't realistic, but every form of storytelling must maintain a level of realism in order to work (at least this is so in terms of popular media). The characters must be real in some way, their emotional responses, needs, desires, and interactions must be realistic within their fictional world. People tend not to watch a show or movie if it's populated by characters they can't relate to.
I certainly didn't miss it. I didn't understand it. What point are you trying to make here? It seems like you are contradicting yourself constantly between this post and the original one. The plot isn't realistic, because it's a supernatural plot, but all the characters reaction to the supernatural plot are realistic. In this argument are you saying the characters are or aren't realistic, you never made a distinction.
You also mention about how people don't watch shows that they can't relate to the characters, well then I guess the Wire must not have realistic characters, because everyone in this thread has seen Lost, but no one has seen the wire.

The plot isn't realistic. However, the characterization is fairly realistic. The contradictions you speak of weren't meant as such. I think The Wire is infinitely more realistic in terms of characterization than Lost, hence the phrase "I won't even go into realism." I should have been more clear about it being character realism.
Also, on the matter of no one having seen The Wire in this thread, both PJ and Fluke said they had seen some of it. The Wire also didn't come on basic cable, which would drastically affect who saw it. I won't argue viewership with you since its ratings were horrible. The point about a show needing realism to do well isn't some kind of absolute positively correlating principle, the most realistic and relatable show ever made won't necessarily have the highest ratings. I never meant the statement to be taken as absolute, just generally the truth.

I understand that you can talk about whatever you want and it doesn't really matter, but if someone new strolls into this thread expecting a discussion about comics and they find 2 pages of TV discussion it can be pretty discouraging, especially when there are already seperate threads for TV in the Entertainment section.

CAD has been weird recently...ok for the last few months, but I have faith it'll pick up. I still like it when he comments on current events. And The Angy Chef.
His commentary against the video game censorship crowd is barbaric and fails to actually be insightful. It basically boils down to "Hey don't try to censor our games because they inspire violence, so DON'T FUCK WITH US GAMERS OR ELSE." I can stand with his position on censoring games, but taking an overtly aggressive tone really undermines his point and he fails to realize that he's making this same mistake over and over again.
He also tends to overcomplicate his jokes with a surplus of dialouge that, if you actually read, is preachy and incredibly masturbatory, blatantly shoehorning his messages in the least subtle way. Additionally, he tends to have a "If you're not a gamer, you're an idiot" additude that is a huge turn off in terms of the comic as a whole.
The protagonist Ethan is a terrible person in a completely unhumorous way, while the antagonist Christian (I think that's what his name is) is responsible and successful, donates to hospitals and genuinely cares about the misscarriage and the issues surounding it, his character almost makes you forget why you're rooting for Ethan.
The humor is pretty terrible, it usually surrounds a suggestion of violence, "random" humor that isn't really that random as well as incredibly tepid gags. Despite this comic being completley devoid of memorable or orignal humor, the comic also doesn't actually provide it's reader with a fresh perspective or any intersting points at all. Tim Buckley's ego is incredibly bloated as well as he is blind to the major pitfalls of his comic.
I'm sorry that was a bit long, but I hate to see the newborn webcomic community under the heel of Tim Buckley.

They should do exactly what Iron Man did - have an origin story and have the focus on a villain that starts as a friend. So we have Hal getting his ring from Abin Sur, meeting Sinestro, becoming friends, then them becoming mortal enemies, clash, Hal wins, has sex with Carol Ferris on a floating green bed made out of his sheer will.

I like this plot. Hell, just take the current Lantern arc, Secret Origin. Expand on it a bit more, obviously, filling in a bit of the gaps the comic doesn't need to in order to fill time in the movie, and badum. You're done. Sex with Carol Ferris on a gloating green bed made out of his sheer will.

It's my fave podcast as John's a fucking culture guru. And not so much in geeking out. HE really knows and cares about this stuff and is genuinely interesting to listen to (most of the time).
Enjoy!
I'll download that tonight. I'm a podcast Junkie. I started a thread about Podcasts, but it didn't really take off. If your interested the other ones I listen to/listened to are: SModcast (kevin smith and scott mosier), iFanboy (comics), Geekscape (Geek culture), Official Lost Podcast, The Ricky Gervais Show, and I just started listening to the Russel Brand one. Also I have my own podcast that I do with a couple friends called Blank Of The Week, which is essentially the show Best Week ever for geeks LINK (http://www.myspace.com/blankoftheweek).
There's some info about the Green Lantern movie online now : http://www.firstshowing.net/2008/10/07/5-badass-reasons-why-fans-will-love-the-green-lantern-movie/
I'm just wondering to myself... why did they choose to have Legion be the villain? I mean, Sinestro is going to be a character in the movie, but Legion as the main villain? He was only in Emerald Dawn... and then he was retconned... so... wtf?
I guess I can kind of see this. I'm thinking Sinestro will turn evil at the end, and be the villian if they make a sequel. But this is risky business.
This is off topic (but that's all we've been lately (also I think it's OK that we've been off topic so much this week because it's been such a light week for comics)), but I saw a pre-screening of Sex Drive last night, and surprisingly loved it. I didn't have high hopes for the movie, but it was a WAY better than I thought it was going to be. I'd highly recommend it.

I'm actually really excited about that. James Marsden has somehow turned himself into one of the funniest people around and I'm not sure how. He and Neil Patrick Harris are hilarious, yet who in the world saw that coming (I know NPH isn't in Sex Drive, I just thought he wasn't funny, then between Harold and Kumar and How I Met Your Mother he became hysterical).
But overall, it looks great. I'm glad to hear that.
Also, I think our thread is becoming like the Dark Knight thread. It's mostly based around the central topic, but for pages on end we may talk about nothing really at all. It's how we roll.

I think I am enjoying End League even more than I did before with this new artist, even though nowadays, the references are so much more obvious it seems. I mean, this issue could've made a really good Batman and Hellboy story. I am still not sure how I feel about this series, I really like it, but a couple things prevent me from really loving it.
Invincible Iron Man was good as always. Not as good as it has been, but it was more of an epilogue story, so I cut it a break. I am not a fan of these resolution issues, I understand their purpose, but they almost feel like a waste sometimes. Zek's Stane suit is just about the pimpest thing in the world though, I have to say.
The Twelve is building up to something sweet. This series is finally getting up and along, I am excited, it only took eight out of twelve issues to give us a real, gripping cliffhanger.
I also bought the '0' issue of Rick Remender's new indy series, The Corps. It was a big fat *yawn*

My friend, bless his heart, is trying to get into comics. So I've been trying to explain what's been going on in the Marvel U for the past few years. I've been getting really frustrated, because hes not picking it up as quickly as I thought he should. I'm rattling off everything I can think of, and all he's wrapped his head around so far is "so there are...TWO Avenger teams...?"
I'm trying to figure out how to get him into the universes. So far the best thing I can figure is Mighty/New Avengers, but I think it might be too complex. He's not really "into" Spider-Man either, so BND is out. X-Men might be a plan, but they're in the middle of something big. As for DC, he really only likes Batman. He cannot stand Superman, so I'm not sure why we're friends. But anyway, I think he'd like Green Lantern.
Anyway, I'm thinking for superhero stuff, the team books might be best? And from there, look into books featuring characters he likes in those books(like, say, picking up The Oath if he likes Dr. Strange in New Avengers) Am I wrong? I'd love some input here.
---------
And finally: everyone's opinion: Bullseye or Clint Barton(Hawkeye/Ronin), who'd win, and why? I'm torn because they almost seem like two halves of the same coin. I don't think I've ever seen Clint miss. And well, it's Bullseye. 'Nuff said.

My jumping off point for getting back into comic books again was the Disassembled storyline. It really marked the beginning for a new era of the Marvel Universe, and by starting there or New Avengers #1, you get everything you need to get into all the big events over the past couple years and such. The Avengers universe is big though, since it seems to encompass the entirety of the Marvel Universe (Apart from the X-books)
Or, you could just start him off on some good standalone books, like Dr. Strange: The Oath or the Kevin Smith Daredevil stuff (which can lead into the always fantastic Bendis stuff, which also stands on it's own for the most part.) Or else he may be like one of my friends who is just interested in events (House of M, Civil War, World War Hulk, Secret Invasion.)
The Ultimate Universe would be easy as well. USM is always fun and super easy to get into. The Ultimates used to be my favorite book, it's a good way to get used to The Avengers type stuff before indulging in the real universe.
----------------------
Clint would win, he's the good guy. But I have a question...didnt' a few years ago, Bullseye get his arms replaced with robotic limbs that made him never miss? This may have been retconned, but otherwise, realistically, Bullseye would totally win. I also feel like Bullseye would go the distance to kill Clint if it came down to it, whereas Clint suffers from Cap's honor and pride.

Back around 2000 or so, I stopped reading comics entirely. Didn't read anything until around 2003, when I started picking up trades of Y the Last Man and Fables based off recommendations I had when I felt the urge to get comics. Then I started picking up more series as I started hearing about them (the Walking Dead, Sleeper, etc.) but what got me into buying single comics again as opposed to just trade waiting was actually, dun dun dun, the first volume of this thread when the first two pages were pure Infinite Crisis talk.
Short story told way long, my recommendation for the DC side of business (because I agree entirely with Capn, Disassembled on is the perfect place to start on the Marvel side) is to do what I did - pick up the four lead ups to Infinite Crisis, pick up Infinite Crisis, grab 52, and most of the side action was somewhat superfluous. That business will get you caught up to the point you can pick up individual series for DC. It's what I did, and now I'm a freak getting infinity comics a week.
Also, as much as I love Clint (two favorite types of characters: speedsters - the Flash and Quicksilver - and archers - Green Arrow and Hawkeye), Bullseye would take him to pieces because he's more cutthroat and because the guy doesn't miss with anything. Ever. Unless you told Clint that Bullseye was behind the Secret Invasion and singlehandedly convinced that one Skrull to become a Mockingskrull. Then Clint would win.

I don't know if you need to read it. But it's a really good story and series. I don't know how actual effect it's had on DCU. I don't think it's terribly necessary. The series that seems like it's tied into final crisis the most is Grant Morrison's Seven Soldiers series. Especially the Mister Miracle part. Which is also another really cool series.
As for comics this week. Nothing really important came out, but everything I've read has been great. It was really Dark Horses week. BPRD, The Goon, and End League were all great. This BPRD mini is so awesome. It's a continuation of my favorite BPRD series Hollow Earth. It's really cool seeing all those monsters back. I also love me some giant robots.

I have actually pondered this question many times. I think its obvious that Clint would win just cause he is way more bad ass than Bullseye. Sure Bullseye is a ruthless murderer but Clint would know how to handle him just fine. IF we are talking ultimate Clint Barton then its not even a contest.

52 isn't necessary I suppose, but it's a damn good series. I enjoyed the entire thing and it definitely sets up the DC universe as it is today. Countdown didn't really do anything, but 52 did. It's like Countdown was an exploration of the new status quo set up in 52. I recommend it.

I really need to get on those Seven Soldiers books before the next issue of Final Crisis comes out...never? 2 months? 8 years? Feels like forever since an issue.
Agreed on the Dark Horse deal. It was their week for sure, especially considering I missed the great finish to Hellboy: the Crooked Man so that was tacked on this week as well. BPRD ruled! I'm checking out all the Hellboy stuff at the library right now, and if the rest is half as good as that series has been I'll be stoked.

I can't begin to describe how stoked I am for that issue. I read about it like 3 months ago, I've been counting down the days since. I'm really interested in this issue because to my knowledge, Mignola's never done a single issue of Hellboy before, where it's just a stand alone issue. He's done short stories, and 2 issue minis, but never a stand alone. The closest is The corpse, which was similar, but it also had the back up story of the Iron Shoes.
Dark Horse was even crazier for me yesterday, because I bough the Hellboy Library edition volume 2 which was $50. I now own 3 different printed version of Wake The Devil, Seed of Destruction, and Box Full of Evil, among many others.

There's a free book that Marvel gave out that's called "Marvel: Your Universe" that has a really clear synopsis of all of the Marvel events since Secret War. A book he could probably pick up really easily if he has a basic understanding of the MU is Civil War because it has a really clear and simple premise, it sets the tone of the MU post Secret-Invasion. You shouldn't really confuse him with the House of M stuff either.
If he can't stand Superman, you should get him to read All-Star Superman and see if he changes his mind. I wouldn't try to start him on team books just yet. There are plenty of solo books to choose from. There's JMS' Thor, Fraction's Iron Fist, Ennis' Punisher and so on. If you do feel so inclined to start him on a team book, I would give him the first two volumes of the Ultimates. Or Whedon's Astonishing X-Men. Starting him on most Millar books would be a wise choice because Millar is not one to write incredibly complex stories.
You should also get him to read Marvels and Justice.
And finally: everyone's opinion: Bullseye or Clint Barton(Hawkeye/Ronin), who'd win, and why? I'm torn because they almost seem like two halves of the same coin. I don't think I've ever seen Clint miss. And well, it's Bullseye. 'Nuff said.

Dark Horse was even crazier for me yesterday, because I bough the Hellboy Library edition volume 2 which was $50. I now own 3 different printed version of Wake The Devil, Seed of Destruction, and Box Full of Evil, among many others.
The issue that came out this week was the first part of Original Sin. So far there has only been a prelude in Wolverine Origins. It wasn't a reprint.
I really want to buy the Library Editions, but I already have copies of the stories. You shloud get those edtions from amazon though they sell them for just over $30
You should also get him to read Marvels and Justice.
Bullseye. Bullseye is simply more ruthless. Also, Bullseye has never died.
I have marvels and need to read it. I want to read Justice as well
Ruthless does not guarantee a win. Clint is the man I faith in his victory. Plus tynically he has never died either, Scarlet Witch related deaths don't count
Not really. It has yet to pick up.
How has it yet to pick up, its been one issue and the prelude before that issue was really good

Fuck that. I'd much rather support my local comic shop. Plus I got the first one for 35 because I bought it on a sale day. And I got this one for 45 on my discount. Not great, but I like supporting them.

How do you guys feel about this game? I think it has promise, but at the same time, just imagining Sonya Blade doing a fatality on Superman(or even Batman) is like imagining Barry Zito pitching a no hitter.
Oh man...a sports metaphor.

Hahahaha, I was just thinking about that. I don't understand Deathstroke and Darkseid at all. The Joker, Lex Luthor, ok sure. Everyone loves the Joker. But Darkseid? Hahahaha. I hope there are some unlockable characters too.

I guessing Darkseid is DC's Shao Khan. Like Lex would be the Shang Tsung.
And I like Deathstroke. Not sure why he's in this though.

So I was re-reading Marvels I saw this during the part where Namor invades New York:

Look familiar? God, I love this book.
Also, Tony Daniel posted his cover for the Batman 681 (RIP conclusion) variant:

I hate to be that guy, but come on now. I'll play it, because it would be ridiculous and entertaining, but seriously Mortal Kombat vs. DCU would be bad news. These are the biggest mismatches since I last saw Bambi vs. Godzilla (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAVYYe87b9w&feature=related). Liu Kang would bicycle kick Superman, to which he'd laugh hysterically and set his ass on fire with heat vision. But there'd be no fatalities while he was around at least.
Do you think Hal will be able to perform fatalities? Clearly this game is going to have to be post Sinestro Corps War, but he better watch out for Scorpion. If this is classic Hal, then that yellow costume is going to be the death of him.
Darkseid will totally anti-life the living shit out of everyone though.
Just thinking of the theoretical situations amuses me to no end. I'm actually really just excited about playing a video game as the Flash. Simulating his powers has pretty much been my dream in life for a long, long time. I'm going to jump kick someones face off at super speed.

Hell yes. I'm going to play the living crap out of Deathstroke. He rules.
Speaking of Deadpool though - highly entertaining this week. This has been a great week for me. So far I haven't read a single bad book, everything has been good to very good.

see, this has been my main problem with DCU, they are too godlike sometimes.
So, is this supposed to be like Marvel vs. Street Fighter or whatever?
I don't think it will be nearly as good if that's the case.

Man, that issue rocked. I just love every decision Kirkman makes, even if they are super messed up from time to time. The connection between Michonne and Rick was great as well. No less, we now have a plot point to drive the series perhaps the rest of the way. Who knows. Great stuff though.

It's because Marvel's characters are super powered, but brawlers for the most part. DCU is godlike as you said. It's impossible to imagine them losing.
Also, for whoever asked about I Kill Giants - the issue that came out this week was freaking superb. Did exactly what it needed to validate the series and make it have a forward moving plot and brought the main character away from just being crazy.

Also, please tell me someone else read The Ferryman.

Magneto: Testament was great, and sorry about that on I Kill Giants. I did say originally that a lot depended on the creators ability to make the main character not crazy. I didn't actually expect them to do that.

I dropped Magneto: Testament. I needed to drop something due to the finances and budgeting department. I am doing the same thing with Hulk next week.
