I've never totally understood the all of the Coldplay hate. Parachutes and A Rush of Blood... were good. X&Y had a few songs. Viva la Vida... is really their first poor album.

R.E.M. released a strong "later years" album that rarely happens for career bands. I'm glad it did as well as it has, especially considering how commercially disappointing their last few releases were.

Exactly. I find the rather shocking amount of "this is the shit that sells nowadays" comments in this thread to be ridiculous. Of Course these are the acts that sell. It's pop music aimed at a mass audience. How is this at all surprising? Moreover, I can't understand why it's implied that the general quality of the acts that sell millions has collectively fallen from the artists who moved units in the '80s to now.
