According to Guitar World (this issue was like 2 or 3 years ago) these are the top ten definitive punk albums of all time. Which is your favorite?

Haha fuck you I LOVE real punk. I have almost all of those albums and listen to them often. The Clash is probably one of my favorite bands and I'm not even a fan of Good Charlotte.

Out of those, it'd either be The Clash, Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys or The Ramones.

Sick of it All are more famous as the seminal NYHC band and NOFX are the same, except they're pop-punk.

For the straight up punk, I'd have to go with the ones mentioned before. But for the hell of it, I'm going to pick Dead Kennedys.

I chose Sex Pistols, but i would say Ramones too. I don't know, for me there are two kind of punk music : old school punk and more like us/california punk.
Old school punk = dead kennedys, sex pistols, ramones etc.
US punk = NOFX, Bad Religion etc.

Old school punk would be trashier, linked to dirty clothes and beers all over the place, red-red lipstick and fake blondes. US punk would be linked to skate, baggy clothes, road trip and i don't know, sunnier.

It may sound stupid, but hey this is just the way I see things.

While London Calling is their best, I'd say that it transcends "punk". I'd say that their first album (US release) is one of the best "punk" albums of all time.

yeah I'm suprised with the choice of Clash album, but I still voted for Give 'Em Enough Rope

Yeah I agree with all the statements about the Clash. I'm a huge fan, I think they're link number four on my Audio Scrobbler. The first one was very much straight forward punk and the rest transcended being pigeon-holed into one genre. They covered ska, reggae, punk, dub, jazz, funk, everything. I also agree that London Calling is their best album, definitely my favorite of theirs, but I also agree that its not really punk music, despite that the album itself was made with a punk tone of "we'll do whatever the fuck we want and don't care whether or not you like it". That being said, the Clash are amazing.

I tried really hard to like the Misfits, I have Collection 1, but I was just never able to get into it. I think the recording and production on that record is really bad and it makes it harder to get into. I don't know, maybe thats just me.

Minor Threat.

You are my new favorite member, along with 3 other people (for I was the 5th). I really didn't think that many people on this board like Minor Threat that much but I seem to be mistaken.

I think this desperately needs to be said:

Minor Threat is rubbish

Black Flag's Damaged, DK's Fresh Fruit for Rotting Vegetables, and Misfits' Walk Among Us are all a lot better. They just get a lot of hype for the whole DIY thing and "starting" straight-edge.

If Walk Among Us was an option, I'd be all over it, but it wasn't...so I went with Damaged

I really really just don't like the Misfits.

Never really have taken the time to listen to Black Flag.

Never got into DK.
Same here. I have that DK album and I like a couple of their songs, but overall, meh.

I think Minor Threat got progressively better and by the time they were good they broke up. I agree that the DIY and straight edge thing gave them a lot more power. I picked up the First Demo Tape when it came out 2 years ago and its A LOT better than the recordings of the same songs on Complete Discography.

I really really don't like everything I've heard from them except Walk Among Us (especially Earth A.D., talk about over-rated). That album seriously owns. Imagine punk with like 50s melodies. It's glorious.

If you're really into Minor Threat, I don't think there's any way you couldn't love Black Flag. The songs are a little longer, a little more developed, and not as frantic, but it's still classic hardcore.

And at first Jello's voice annoyed me, but I got over that eventually and I love Fresh Fruit.... If you want, I've got all 3 of those albums on my computer. Just go ahead and browse whenever you're bored.

Seriously though, Walk Among Us. Trust me.

Well, the Sex Pistols are great and were there right near the beginning, but I'm more of a NOFX fan and they kinda helped pioneer modern punk, so im going white trash, two heebs and a bean.

Listen I like DK too and it was hard to vote against it but I believe it was supposed to be "Your Favorite" punk album that was ground breaking and that for me would be Minor Threat. I understand you have your opinion but I personally think Minor Threat. I think Ian Mckay went out and talked about alot of things no one would even want to attempt to speak (at least in the sense of not being popular beliefs for example: Non-Drug/Alcohol lifestyle as well as Black on White Racism, and of course evident was just the simple conflicts between friends changing and growing up) For this I respect him so much for and for me I personally love the fast, off beat punk rock.

I like the Velvet Underground, but they aren't really punk. I took these from Guitar World, and in the same issue, Velvet Underground & Nico was the number 1 album in the top 10 Alternative albums.
