No way would I choose underoath, to the person who said that. Horrible type of band to recommend to just anyone. There are much better choices.

Anberlin, Jack's Mannequin are some mainstream choices I'd choose.

The Secret Theatre, Lydia's older stuff would be stuff I'd recommend as well for someone who wanted stuff not so known.

I normally recommend Green Day, and Paramore if the guy isn't afraid of listening to a band who's lead singer doesn't have a penis (trust me, I know a LOT of immature guys like that). After that, I actually ask them what kind of music they like, and make a recommendation based on that (as long as it falls under the umbrella of rock, I don't know anything about RnB, Pop, or HipHop)

Oh, ATDI is always a great recommendation, and most mainstream listeners have never heard of them.
