This is one of my favorite shows right now, good sci-fi stuff that is a bit quirky. Plus at one point they played a Streets song on the show, how rad is that?

One of the best shows on tv if not the best. IMO.

I just hope David Tennant stays as the Doctor for a good while. He is awesome.

This is a great show, watched it since the first series and I cannot wait to see who he regenerates into. I guess it would good if James Nesbitt did become Doctor Who but David Tennant is definitely the best the show has had.

Hmm... have to say Pertwee would probably be my favourite, though Tennant is pretty good. Not sure if I could get used to a Doctor with a Norn Irish accent in Jimmy.

David Tennant is my favourite of the more modern Dr Whos, but I think Tom Baker has to be the best ever.

I have seen his season, and I liked it too. Just not as much as Tennant's Doctor. Probably didn't help that I didn't see it until this summer, but whatever.
Oh me too! Especially since BBCA tends to edit the US versions, like the Runaway Bride, and the fact that the UK gets it broad casted before the the US does. I'm watching it with a friend who lives on the other side of the country, so we'll chat during the commercials.

Wasn't aware of the US edits. BBCA has gotten better about the length between broadcast dates, especially since EOT Part 1 is being shown just the day after the premiere in GB.

He is virtually unknown, way too young for the role and what he has been in he hasn't been spectacular and Russel T. Davies isn't involved anymore plus it will more than likely be toned down.

I freaking love Dr. Who. David is the Doctor I adore the most having started watching it when he came on the show, so although I have The End of Time being DVR'd on my other TV, I'm a little hesitant to watch it. Obviously there have been quite a few incarnations of the Doctor, but it'll be a weird adjustment for me.
Sort of on the subject of Doctor Who, I have taken the past few days to re-watch the entire Torchwood series (I've seen most of it, but unfortunately there are still certain episodes I missed or just don't remember that well), and it has been an awesome last two or three days.

Wow. The "Human Nature/Family of Blood" two-parter may be my favorite episode(s) of the series. Just incredible, and Tennant's double performance was astounding.
Have you watched "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead" yet? Those episodes are fan-fucking-tastic and the last two episodes of season 4 are unbelievable.

Also; is it normal for them to do a whole bunch of specials (The Next Doctor, Planet of the Dead, The Waters of Mars, The End of Time) to bridge the gap between regenerations? Cause all Eccleston got (albeit he was only the Doctor for one season) was a season finale. No specials.

I've been dreading getting to the end of "The End of Time Part 2," because I knew when it was over, he'd have to regenerate into Smith. It took literally about five seconds of Smith checking out his new body before I just went "Yup. This'll be just fine."

Bumping this thread because I'm bored, it's late, and I'm a Doctor Who nerd. I'm really loving the new episodes. Smith isn't as charming or as charismatic as Tennant, but I like him a lot and I feel like these episodes have been a lot more intriguing to me than some of the older ones.
Tomorrow my boyfriend is coming over, and I've decided it is necessary that he get into this show, and he wants to as well because of how much I adore it. Problem is, I don't know what to show him first. I'm a little hesitant to show him some of the "cheesier" episodes first, but then again he's a closet anime nerd so he probably wouldn't mind much. Blink has always been my favorite episode, but I feel like it doesn't have enough of the Doctor in it for him to get a feel for the show. I'm unsure if I should start him off with Eccleston's season or one with Tennant, since I feel like he would love Tennant as the Doctor. lol at me for thinking so much into this.

Yeah. He really hates not watching something from the beginning (obviously I'm not talking about the ones from way back when) which is why I was considering Eccleston, but I'm unsure if I should start him from the beginning or from an episode that represents the show as a whole. Doctor Who is a pretty easy show to jump into since they usually explain or touch on past events. I'll have him watch Torchwood when it coincides with Doctor Who. I like Torchwood because it's exciting, but I don't find myself appreciating it as much as Doctor Who in terms of writing. Plus I was pissed about how it ended haha.

I think Torchwood is just a bit more dumbed down. It seems more concerned about being action-adventurey than having smart and clever writing like Doctor Who. I got my little sister and little step-siblings into Doctor Who and Torchwood, and they all prefer Torchwood. But God, I can agree with disliking Gwen Cooper. She's always fucking things up in nearly every episode. Other than her, I quite enjoy the other main characters.

For such a details heavy episode, Moffat I have to say did a great job of giving it heart. I loved that scene with the Doctor and Amelia in the end. The new installment of the series—which has been dormant since 2009, and which recently narrowly dodged a doomed-to-fail “American version” to be toyed with then summarily discarded by Fox—will pick up where it last left off in summer 2011, with the original showrunner and cast in place alongside a few new characters and what’s been described as a new “international scope,” one that takes full “advantage of the unlimited narrative opportunities of a premium television service like Starz,” said a guy who works for Starz. Maybe both shows are in continuity, just with different focuses.
And Amy Pond might be the hottest, but Martha is far and away the best.
I love your Avatar. That level of cuteness makes me smile.

From what I can tell, it's not really an American remake, just a mini rebooting of the series with more international characters. Yes?

Although I don't know if I'd even call it a rebooting, 'cause The Sopranos had breaks this long.

She did. I was surprised at how bummed I was when she left (though that was probably more of just the circumstances). But of the three companions I've seen so far (Rose, Martha, Amy) she's easily been my least favourite.

I think the moment Amy won me over was when she was stuck in the room with the image of the weeping angel, and she figured out that pausing the video during the split second when the angel didn't appear would get rid of it. I was applauding.
Amy's awesome but Rose is easily my favourite. I think Martha sucked hard. I think Rory's stopping me from fully enjoying Amy, I'm pissed he came back to life, I was so happy when he died.

They have him on contract for like 4 or 5 years right ? He'll probably do it for at lease 4.

Ha, me and my friends had that idea. Each one of us is going to be our favorite doctor which means that I called Smith immediately. Now I just have to learn how to tie a bowtie and dress like a college professor.

So, here's where I am at the moment:
Purchased:
- Blue slacks
- Red fez
Need to Purchase:
- Suspenders
- Bow tie
- Tweed jacket
- Shirt
Suggestions? There's enough thrift stores around here that I'll probably be able to find a close enough jacket pretty soon (I found one almost exactly the same for $3.99 yesterday, but it was too small :-()

I think most people have at least some sort of awareness of it, and in terms of ratings it's usually the most popular thing here aside from soap operas and certain sporting events and reality tv.

10/12/10, 01:44 PM
Found a fez for $7 on eBay, had to take advantage. Shipping time is 3-7 days, so I'm not too worried. Ditto on the bow tie (only $3.50).
The thing I'm most worried about is the Sonic Screwdriver. I found a Matt Smith one for $17 on eBay ($8 cheaper than on ThinkGeek) with shipping, but the problem is it's shipping from Australia. Think it'll make it here in two weeks?
TJ Wells
10/12/10, 01:45 PM
So now all I need are suspenders (gonna check Wal-Mart) and a shirt (will probably borrow one of my dad's, don't really care about how close this is as he tends to wear different ones). The coat I bought is a bit too big on me, but I'm going to wait to see how it looks with the rest of the outfit before I try to find a smaller one. Maybe it being a little big on me will look good.
natalieruthless
10/12/10, 01:46 PM
if you order it using like priority shipping or whatever...you should be good on the sonic. the entire outfit sounds good. i hope it all works out. :)
