second in the southleast is like 4th in any other division
they are having a decent year but lets relax here
and the fans have gone somewhere...theyve been in the bottom 5-6 in attendance the last 2 years

I know (and Florida's an easy team to shit on) but they've had just as good, if not better, attendance as the Devils over the last two-three seasons despite playing poor to mediocre hockey. It's probably worse for the Devils given they are an established team in a "hockey market" playing great hockey.
2009:
New Jersey is 25th with 15,522 while being third in the East
Florida is 26th with 15,227 while being seventh in the East
2008
New Jersey is 23rd with 15,564 while finishing third/fourth in the East
Florida is 25th with 15,436 while finishing eleventh in the East
2007:
Florida is 22nd with 15,530 while finishing twelth in the East
New Jersey is 25th with 14,176 while finishing second in the East
did the person who started this thread ever choose a team?

I'd pick the Avalanche out of those.

15,500 isn't too bad considering the arena only holds 17, 625 and usually the empty seats are the ones priced over $100, like mid-lower level

It's bad given almost two-thirds of the league sell out their arenas (95% or greater). If you can't pack them in when you're winning, then I hate to see what happens when the Devils are losing. There are only two or three markets that will support a team who misses the playoffs for six-seven years like Florida has; if the tables were turned there would be a lot of room inside the Rock to stretch out.

Those numbers need context.
2009:
NJ is 20th at 87.7% filled compacity.
FLA is 30th at 79.1%
2008:
NJ is 26th at 81.7
FLA is 28th at 80.2%
2007:
Don't know the rankings because ESPN's is basically all zeros, but they averaged 14176 which put them at 74.5% compacity.
FLA averaged 15530 with a building that holds 19250 which is 80.7%.
Just to give everyone some context.

Those numbers almost mean nothing. Not just yours but LastPlaceRocks' (why cant I remember your name) numbers too. I mean I used to look at those, but how much money is made from selling all higher level seats but having corporate boxes unsold? I'd love to get some more information from teams and really look into it, but thats highly unlikely.

The Capitals are the most exciting team of your choices, but I voted for the Canucks.

Can only make due with the public information at hand.

Yea which is unfortunate. As a business major, this stuff really interests me.

So would I, but that's not happening with the information made public. Even Forbes just makes a estimated guess.
I guess as a concluding thought that unless the NHL solely consists of Toronto, Montreal and the New York Rangers, there will always be teams that are worse off.

Well I already made a gigantic issue on the 6 Canadien teams making the majority of the revenues and the problems it presents. Unless the NHL improves the revenue sharing (not to mention that with the Obama admin. the dollar will appreciate) it might see another lockout.

Not going to lie, I don't see what the point of that was when he actually gave a legit answer.

It's hard to find a middle ground given that there was a very good possibility of having three Canadian teams left by the time the last lockout happened.

The point is that he's a douche and I've clearly stated he's no longer welcome in the Sports Forum. If I could just do a straight forum ban I would. I will never forgive that fuck for what he's said.
Moving on.

Owners are not necessarily united (although it might be better than the MLB). It could be a tough situation. We'll see. I think it will be interesting. I love these deals.

Can't go wrong with a three-time Avco Cup winner.
