True...but no way the Vikings go 70-80yds at this point...but AP can break it for 40 on any run, and they can probably move about 15yds to tie the game at least

With how New Orleans is playing the run, that's going to be hard. No one has any respect for the pass, and they shouldn't.

And bullshit on letting the play go when the Saints called a timeout.

Hah, That movie is ridiculous. He is a pretty great dude. I went to the Saints luncheon that they held downtown and when it was over and the players had the choice to stay and sign autographs or go he stayed and signed for hoards and hoards of people for about 45 minutes until they literally had to drag him away.

Oh it's definitely not over quite yet, especially after that 5 pt FG...whoever wins will only win by a few though, it's going to be right down to the end.

I find that a stupid ruling though...they don't call a receiver for having possession if its "in his hand" when he touches down, it has to be clear possession and both feet. Its discrepancies like that that make it impossible to understand some rulings

that one makes sense though. it was in his hand when the knee was down. by looking at video, it's impossible to know what kind of grip he had. it's more than possible to hold onto a football just from the tip.

it would have been too hard to overturn it based on what they had. i think they made the right call.

I guess...its pretty clear that the ball comes out a fraction of a second after his knee touches down, and it wasn't like there was an added hit after he started going down there. If they want the refs to make a subjective call there (does he have possession or not), make it as simple as possible...is the ball moving or is it clearly retained? Its definitely moving

Its tough to overturn though, because it was so close

edit: For example, in that Reggie Wayne catch they just replayed, if that ball so much as turns a few degrees, its ruled incomplete, despite him clearly having control of the ball for the duration of that play. But, this ruling allows someone who clearly doesn't' have full control of the ball (or why did it pop out a quarter second later) to still "have control" by just having their hand on it.

FondestMemory
10/06/08, 08:28 PM
there's a difference between a reception and a fumble though.

preppyak

True...but I just find it interesting that the criteria they use to decide if a player got possession of the ball is very different than if they lose the ball...I think it just makes it tougher on the refs.

because its part about safety and part about public perception of safety...because it was mentioned on ESPN, and because it was replayed about 20,000 times, it'll likely draw a small fine.

I don't understand how shitty the Vikings can be. They spend so much money, and they are still going wind up a mediocre 9-7, or 8-8, or 7-9, or 10-6, like I have seen pretty much my entire life, with oh, oops the miraculous season where they blew it by going 15-1, and that idiot South African kicker whos name is too pathetic to mention, missed his only field goal of the year in the NFC Championship game against, Atlanta.

This franchise is a joke, and it still retains its large solid fan base, especially here in the Twin Cities. Year after year fans still deep down believe that "this year is the year". Im sorry, Brad Childress and Tavaris Jackson are not and never will be champions.

xbrokendownx

9-7 and 10-6 are not mediocre in the NFL

9-7 and 10-6 are not mediocre in the NFL

Dude, you love arguing everthing. The Vikings finish around that every year. The Vikings are mediocre. Finishing around 7-9, 9-7, 8-8, 10-6 and a few wild card spots, first round loses, and a couple embarassing NFC Championship games over 20 years = a mediocre franchise. Even with Jared Allen, AP, Mckinney, both Williams, Berrian, all big money guys- they still look pretty sad.

xbrokendownx
10/07/08, 09:21 AM
they will continue to be mediocre until they get a real QB

sundaydrivetsl
10/07/08, 09:28 AM
Yeah, I guess Childress keeps thinking that Tavaris was/will become the next Donovan like he saw as an assitant in Philly. Now they have 48 yr old Gus under center. He hasnt been too bad though better than when Jackson is in there. Im still hoping Jackson can develop, but its just not happening.
