I may be missing the chatting in this thread tonight - but I'll be here later I am sure. The debates are starting to get to the point where they won't matter that much.

Streaming video site Hulu (http://hulu.com/) will host its first-ever live broadcast tonight by airing the presidential debates at its Election '08 hub (http://www.hulu.com/spotlight/election08).

Really looking forward to seeing this. I think the town hall will show McCain to be a pretty upfront speaker (a welcomed break from his speeches) but Obama will show a certain wisdom in his articulation. Paul Begala said he needs to show his side as a community organizer tonight and I feel the same. Hopefully he does.

blindrider529

I've always liked McCain as being an upfront kind of a guy most of the time. I'm probably more disappointed with his campaign just because of my expectations of him. In a lot of ways I held him to standards that he ended up not reaching in this campaign. They weren't outrageous standards, but I expected him to be at least a little bit of the same guy that I've liked in the past.

I think this is just his last chance to be president and he's been desperate the entire time. He's been willing to do whatever he thinks will make him look good.

- McCain says we’ve got to “stop the spending spree” here in Washington to deal with the economic crisis. But reducing spending during a recession – especially at a time when the Fed is maintaining low interest rates — is a pro-cyclical measure likely to deepen a recession.

- McCain said he supported helping homeowners renegotiate the terms of their mortgages. However, he opposed a proposition (http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/10/palin-misstates.html) to allow bankruptcy judges to rewrite mortgage payment terms on first homes.

Chuck Hagel who actually took the lead to tighten regulation in 2005 (http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=95329925). And yet, it was just earlier today that Sarah Palin said (http://thinkprogress.org/%E2%80%9Dhttp://yglesias.thinkprogress.org/archives/2008/10/mccain_and_entitlements.php%E2%80%9 D): “John McCain and I will protect the entitlement programs that Americans depend on - and above all, Social Security.”
