I disagree, this album is around a 9 for me, but each to their own.

i haven't seen anybody really catch what the storyline of this album is really about. i understand that they might just be preserving it for those who want to wait until the album actually comes out, but i guess in my opinion the point is being missed. the latest review talks about it as if the album is written from the perspective of the loved ones of a dead person. my take, however, is that the album is all from the point of view of a man who has recently died (i think commited suicide, based on some of the lyrics of car underwater) and gone to heaven and regrets having done this becuase "it rains in heaven all day long" (i.e. heaven is not all it's cracked up to be) and he misses the girl he loves. he wishes he could come back to earth. once this is developed, he decides what he is going to do about this. i'll spare the rest of my take on the storyline, sorry if that said too much for those of you holding out until the album is released.
i'm in love with "awkward last words," "flying above everything," and especially "the end of fraud"

i like the ending to "the end of fraud."
How they got axel rose to sing backup is beyond me.

Begin forum argument about AFS and album hyping...now.
Tate's got Mills in a headlock and Frank is putting the Stone Cold Stunner on Kelsey.

i'd give it an 8 probably, i agree though, nothing groundbreaking, but a pretty good album

Are you serious? That seems a tad odd, but as long as it sounds good, you won't hear any complaints from me.

I agree with GAD_guy... his take is what I thought the album was all about. Of course, liner notes and whatnot could probably make it easier to understand.
So far this is my second favorite album of the year, behind "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning"... althoguh I do have the feeling that this might get boring after a while... but so far so good. The pacing is exceptional, just the movement of sound... putting Flying Above Everything as a nice slow track right in the exact middle of the album works great... and the repetition of lyrics... they definitely got the concept album idea right.

Ahh. Seeing as I haven't heard it I wouldn't know. Like I said I thought it was a bit odd. Hard to tell sometimes whether someone's serious or not.
Great review. I can't believe how much hype this album is getting on this site. It's catchy, but it's not that great.

Maybe I made it unclear, but I meant to portray it as an album told from the perspecitve of the guy who died and was looking down on his loved ones.

i'm surprised no one has mentioned it, but that guitar part in "remember to feel real" really makes me think of "gloria"
if you don't know what song i'm referring to then get out.

the best song is car underwater......it's the easiest to listen to and the catchiest. I think there isn't much change in tempos for most of the rest of the album..which makes it become repetitive....the last song isn't too bad though. It's definitely not a bad album.........i think it will get lost in 2005 once a lot of the other great albums come out. The emanuel album is definitely better....if Brand New makes a sick record ...everyone will love that.....i think Starting Line's record will probably surprise some people..and there are a whole slew of others. I wouldn't doubt if Mae has a great record too.

at the end of the month, i bet i'll agree with gabe...but i don't want to hear it until then, so i won't say ryan is wrong quite yet.

to each his own, but i feel this album is one of the most complete albums i've heard in a long time, meaning that many of the recent albums i have listened to(minus a few) have left me wanting. i can listen to this album and feel content.
not to mention how incredible the band is overall either way. i had no idea how they could top "dream to make believe" and then absolutely did in my opinion.

"...a brave morning. thoughts flap their wings and fly..." there is a resemblance between the two leads, they are almost in the same key but no one squeals a note better than chris and scott of mineral. good call, rob.

whoever said emanuel's cd is better than this one is out of their mind. will this be the best cd to come out this year? probably not, but emanuels cd is so unoriginal and awful that that statement is just obsurd. if i felt like listening to underoath, id listen to underoath, not emanuel. the 4th song on that album is also probably the biggest rip off ever of glassjaws "must have run all day"

I kinda saw emanuel as more of a recover rip, but to each his own.

emanuel has a heavy rock and roll influence. listen to the riffs. listen to the leads. they sound nothing like underoath. underoath doesn't use leads, they use octaves and picking. there is a way different intensity, homie. way different bands. and that song isn't a glassjaw rip. honestly, no songwriter or band says "shit...i'm gonna fucking rip these guys off..." these are two different songs, just because songs in the same key or close to it, sound alike doesn't mean it's a rip off. train your ears better. word.
