today, my friend and i were discussing lent, and he said that fish isnt meat because its not a mamal, is this true?

i think it is meat...


biblical or literal views would be nice.

Probably not. It doesn't say anything against fish though. "Man shall have dominion over the creatures in the sea..."

I was always told you can't eat meat on Friday's during Lent but you CAN eat fish. So I guess it isn't meat?

Yeah it's definitely not considered meat in the eyes of the church because my family has fish for dinner every friday during lent (intentionally).

I always considered fish as being meat because you're eating the flesh of an animal. I looked up meat on dictionary.com and it said this:

Meat: The edible flesh of animals, especially that of mammals as opposed to that of fish or poultry.

That definition is kind of unclear, though. It says "especially" from mammals and "as opposed to" fish and poultry, but it doesn't say that poultry and fish aren't meat. It just places an emphasis on mammals.
