Saul Williams
RJD2 with Aesop Rock
Ted Leo and the Pharmacists
Dillinger Escape Plan

Saul Williams - i'm a huge fan of saul. i've seen him numerous times in different settings: spoken word in a cafe setting, a book signing, venue, etc. he delivered an incredible set. played the songs electronically rather than having live instruments. although the spoken word pieces were a bit too furious and abrasive - only a few words could be picked up among the spitfire ramble. danced energetically and gave a passionate performance.

RJD2 with Aesop Rock - RJD2 gave a dope set consisting of a few of his tracks stringed together. he kept his hands busy the entire time, switching records, playing the drum machine, scratching. his quickness and dexterity were impressive. later on, Ace Rock came out and killed it as expected. did a few songs and ended with his new single "Fast Cars, Danger, Fire, and Knives". his flow and delivery were tighter than my 10-year old underwear.

in between, Sufjan Stevens came out and played two beautifully quiet songs. it sucked though 'cause the crowd was talking way too loud and one could just barely hear his vocals. the songs were great though.

Ted Leo and the Pharamacists - their set was lively and upbeat. gave a great, zealous performance. Ted's guitar playing wasn't sloppy, but impressively precise. At one point, he couldn't get the strap to his guitar back on, so he had to awkardly bend a little to support the guitar, all while singing his lyrics. his vocals sounded great but his guitar work was what shined.

Dillinger Escape Plan - i've been waiting many years to see these guys. i popped my Dillinger cherry tonight. they just wreaked havoc. there were only about 6 dancers, including myself. but the pit was huge because most of the folks were just easy going concert folks. not too many hardcore heads. Greg's vocals were sure fire ON: everything from his scream to his spoken word to his melodic singing sounded terrific. Their math-metal/hardcore-jazz was as tight as ever, perhaps even tighter than the album! I got my hurricane kicks in. I never knew Greg was so freakin' diesel. His arms were tree trunks.

Quite the eclectic line up. But an outstanding show overall. Every artist delivered beyond expectations and did what they do best.
My only complaint is the poseur MC who presented all the bands. What a dork.
