I don't know if too many people like bluegrass or country music(REAL COUNTRY MUSIC not that pop shit they play today)...but OCMS is an amazing band.
I grew up in a small, rural area, so I will always have a soft spot for old time country music and bluegrass...
My favorite song they do is "Wagon Wheel"...it's just..so soulful and good. Plus, I love music with banjos and fiddles!
Discuss!

They're playing near me soon. They are really huge up here in Humboldt and have influenced quite a few other old-time string bands/bluegrass

Good band, I don't listen to their albums often, but they put on a great live show.

This thread is more depressing than most threads that get 15 posts.

It's depressing that we can have 2,000 Paramore threads and no love at all for OCMS. Ridiculous.

My favorite song they do is "Wagon Wheel"...
Probably my favorite off the self-titled. Not sure if it's my favorite of all their songs though.
Band needs more love.
Yep. And how did I know I'd find you in here? Haha.

listened to the big iron city a lot about a month ago, absolutely great. i have a thing for this kind of music and it's weird, because i'm not american and i've never been there.

I love "Wagon Wheel" and "I Hear Them All". I own Big Iron World and listened to it a couple times, and none of the other songs really stuck. I should revisit it and see what happens.

That "Wagon Wheel" performance is really great. Both of them are, actually.

I love how the crowd erupts only two chords into "Wagon Wheel" haha. I really hope I get to see them live sometime. I need to shout "JOHNSON CITY, TENNEEEESSSSSSEEEEE!" along with them at least once in my life hah.

Haha yeah they seem like such an incredible live band. And on another note, I can't find it to post but I love the album cover of Tennessee Pusher.

Awesome for sure. "Highway Halo" from that album is one of my favorite OCMS songs.

They're fantastic. I saw them live two summers ago and it's such a rustic feel.

Some of the members are on tour right now with David Rawlings and Gillian Welch in support of Dave's new record (which is fantastic by the way). Would love to catch them but unless they add some more dates it doesn't look like I'll be able to.

It's really solid. Some great covers and originals on there ("Ruby" in particular is awesome, one of my favorite tracks from last year). It only makes me hunger for another Gillian fronted album though, haha.

Sounds good. Other people I know who've heard it said it was one of their top favorite releases last year, but I just never got around to it. I'll change that soon enough though haha.

I love pretty much everything Rawlings touches. His production work, especially on the Old Crow records and his own/Gillian's, is just outstanding. Very sparse and almost haunting at times, sounds straight out of the past. It helps that he's a great guitar player and songwriter in his own right too, haha.
But anyway, glad to see some love for this band beyond just the usual from Chris and I. Hopefully a few more people will take the time to check these guys out if they haven't.

I was actually at this show, they said it was the only time they would perform it so that was pretty cool. Any chance to see them live, I take it.

Wow. I can't believe I've never seen this thread before. I'm definitely a fan. I saw them with Gillian Welch last summer, and it was among the best shows I've ever attended. Greetings from Wawa will always be ingrained in my memory due to it being the soundtrack of a very special summer.

The original "Wagon Wheel." Kind of awesome to hear Dylan singing it, even if the quality is bad and it isn't quite finished.
