I just purchased my first ACOUSTIC guitar. Any suggestions on good easy beginner songs? Thanks

Free Fallin' by Tom Petty is pretty simple, if you just play the chords and the chorus. Obvioulsy Smoke on the Water as well. I think everyone knows how to play that.

Pop punk songs are like, three chords. Just find some tabs and try them out.

You will inevitably learn how to play Wonderwall and Free Fallin and then I'll see you at a party and hate you.
You will, however, impress every girl.

If you go on ultimate-guitar.com and search any band or song, you will most likely find the chords for that song. Chords are a good thing to start off with because they build calluses and finger strength quickly.
If you don't know what chords to learn, learn the basic ones first: A, B, C, D, E, F, and G. F and B are harder. If it's at all possible, try and get someone to show you the right technique to play these.
Acoustic guitars are much harder to play on than electric guitars, but better in the long run because you will be a better player.

That's pretty much the truth. I know at least 5 or 6 people claiming to be guitar players that don't own guitars and just play tom petty songs at partys.

Go onto Ultimate Guitar and click top 100 tabs,
Usually some popular starter songs in that chart.

Get guitar lessons. That's what I wish I had done, because I've been playing for a year and a half now, and there's some things that I don't know at all, and I have a lot of bad playing habits.

I dunno about lessons, I had some, and learnt a fair amount,
Although it was very useful, I reckon self teaching can be just as effective,
Or even just browsing through the lessons on ultimate guitar, it's cheaper aswell.

Play C, G, A, F in power chord form.
There you just learnt over 200 pop punk songs.
Haha, Blink's entire discography.
Even fans can't deny that.
