Lars Katz (www.larskatz.com)- Scott showed me him the other day and I think he has some real potential. He's mellow, but in a unique way, check it out.
theAUDITION (www.purevolume.com/theaudition)- New demos are really solid. The stuff is extremely "scene" sounding, but it will definetly be a favorite amongst the kids.
U2 (older)- Enough said.
Like Lions (www.purevolume.com/likelions)- Chill rock, but very solid melodies and structures. Anthony Green (Circa Survive/ex-Saosin) is featured in some of their songs.
I suggest everyone check out the following comedians: Jim Bruer, Lewis Black, Dane Cook, Mitch Hedberg.
--------BrandFuckingNew's Recommendations------------------------
Dogs Die in Hot Cars (http://www.dogsdieinhotcars.com/) - Please Describe Yourself
Scottish Indiepop with such a catchy sound, you won't pay attention to the somewhat lame lyrics. Pitchfork referred to this album as "new-wave Reel Big Fish, sans-horns," but I can't seem to get enough of it.
Stars (http://www.arts-crafts.ca/stars/)- Set Yourself On Fire
I first heard this band while listening to the early morning internet radio show of AP.net's own liberal pimp Paul Tao. Insanely ambient, yet powerful sound. The album begins with the wonderful "Your Ex-Lover Is Dead", which instantly made me wonder if the rest of the album could get any better. Check it out, fuckers.
M83 (http://www.ilovem83.com/)- Before The Dawn Heals Us
This album is a fucking trip. Calm and dreamy, this emo-riffic duo bring back the same conceptual serenity as their 2003 release "Dead Cities, Red Seas, and Lost Ghosts." Definitely check them out if you enjoy mind-consuming albums. This shit makes me feel like I can fly.
The Verdict (http://www.theverdictrock.com)- The Quick and the Dead
This Charlotte, NC foursome bring a new jazzy/indie sound to a local scene flooded by those dastardly hardcore kids. Chandler Martin's unique vocals pick up right where his efforts in One Six Conspiracy left off, and this album has enough catchy verses and infectious basslines to make me listen to it repeatedly.
Veda (http://www.weareveda.com/)- This Broken City EP
This young Kansas City quartet bring their first six song effort with the help of Ed Rose. Kristen May's vocals are powerful enough to bring the rock, but silky enough to not get redundant or annoy. Definitely unique and inventive sound I'd suggest for anyone able to put up with female vocalists. Did I mention Ed Fucking Rose touched this album?
--Thanks for taking the time to check out my recs. IM me with anything you think I may enjoy. AIM: artfulabortions
