View Full Version : Halloween Movies For Kids That Hate Scary Movies?

So this Halloween, I'm likely to be with three of my best friends who just happen to be morbidly terrified of scary movies. Their plan (as 16 and 17-year-old kids) is to trick or treat and then watch loads of movies, and I figure I may as well go with them and even though there's plenty of fun stuff to do, this'll be plenty enjoyable because they're great and they're my best friends.
But still, I refuse to watch something lame with them, like a Disney movie or a horror cop-out like The Haunted Mansion.
Anybody have suggestions for movies that are lightly creepy and such without being ridiculously scary?
I'm thinking of taking Donnie Darko because it's great, but I can't take Halloween or even something as light as Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Saw (i don't even like the Saw movies, to be honest).
Any suggestions for movies in the vein of Donnie Darko, V for Vendetta, or A Clockwork Orange [which is probably as creepy as I'd go with them] ?
Pan's Labyrinth, not scary but pretty unpleasant and very good. I can't watch scary movies either.
edit; or Seven

ah Pan's Labyrinth is great. But trust me, I've ensured that they've all seen it at least twice =D
Seven is a GREAT idea though, thanks :)!

Hocus Pocus is the best halloween movie. I know that's not what you're asking for, but that's what you should watch.

Oh I had completely forgotten about that movie, it's so good!
Hocus Pocus kicked ass too. Basically you want Disney Channel Halloween movies.

Hocus Pocus is the best Halloween movie. October isn't the same if it's not on at least a couple times a week, lol.

I don't really consider NBC that much of a Halloween movie either, but they air it on Disney and Cartoon network sometimes around this time of the year.

the hitcher with sean bean and joy ride with paul walker/steve zahn were pretty fun horror movies.
i also like dumb movies with creeps in them like the hills have eyes, wrong turn, and the people under the stairs.
zombie movies rule as well.
night of the living dead
dawn of the dead
day of the dead
land of the dead
diary of the dead
those are all the george a romero ones

Yes, yes, yes, yes.
Also, I have a slightly similar request. What are some good scary movies that aren't gorey, but actually suspenseful and scary in a psychological kind of way?

Maybe, Monster House? It's one of those 3-D animated movies. I thought it was alright...

Most of the people here are too young to remember Punky Brewster, but I finally found the episode of that show that gave me nightmares throughout my childhood. Network sit-coms in the 80's used to subject kids to stuff like this...no wonder we're messed up!
The whole episode is on youtube, but here is the main clip:

There's more of that kind of stuff in that episode. It's funny now, but I remember being haunted by this as a kid.

Halloween last year a few friends invited me over with the promise that we would go trick or treating and there weren't many people in my neighborhood giving candy because everyone was moving, so I accepted. All we did the entire night was watch The Corpse Bride and Maid of Honor. Needless to say, I nearly killed myself.
