Here's what I recommend:

Paint It Black (http://www.paintitblack.info) - Paradise comes out March 8th and it's stellar to say the least...

Comeback Kid - Wake the Dead - If you didn't read my review (http://www.absolutepunk.net/reviews/showproduct.php/product/620/sort/7/cat/last1/page/1) then you wouldn't know, but this is a breath of fresh air, especially from Victory.

Piano Magic (http://www.paino-magic.co.uk) - I just picked up Writers Without Homes and I definitely have enjoyed it so far...interesting stuff.

ZZZZ (http://www.zzzzmusic.com) - Palm Reader was just sent to me by Polyvinyl and it's pretty cool...they have an amplifed alto sax, a fretless bass, a classically trained painist and drums and dual male-female vocals...it's cool.

-------Brain's Picks----------

No Trigger (http://www.notrigger.org) - Melodic punk rock/almost-hardcore from Massachusetts. The band is fresh off the release of Extinction In Stereo, which compiles their World Is Not A Stage demo EP and the three songs from their split with Wasteland, and gives it new life with some hot remastering. Clicking here (http://www.myspace.com/notrigger) lets you stream four songs off the disc, out in Japan by way of Bigmouth Records and the U.S. via Nice Guy Records.

Somerset (http://www.somersetrock.com) - Time signature-hopping, well-written, semi-political yet emotional pop-rock out of the midwest. They should be dropping a full-length at some time or another, but for now you can download a track from their first EP here (http://www.designfigure.com/sites/somerset/audio/somerset-colorsofinsomnia.mp3) and check out all 3 songs from their September 2003 demo here (http://www.somersetrock.com/demo).

Respira (http://www.respirarock.com) - This Is Not What You Had Planned is a criminally underpopular work of beauty. Reminiscent of the Casket Lottery and the Get Up Kids, this EP fleshes out building and budding instrumentals and softly plucks at your heartstrings with wrenching vocals and lyrics. You can stream a couple songs by visiting their website (http://www.respirarock.com/) and at pureVOLUME (http://www.purevolume.com/respira). Also: if anyone reading this happens to have their previously released full-length in digital form, please, please contact me [AIM: InaGreendase].

Trophy Scars (http://www.trophyscars.com) - Crazy, screamy post-hardcore out of Jersey. HEY GUYS, TOUR. Stream 2 "new" songs off (?) a full-length out later this year here (http://www.purevolume.com/trophyscars) as well as 3 from last year's ...Hospital Aesthetics EP.

Kid Dynamite - Had I not just started listening to what is now my favorite melodic hardcore band of all time just 14 months ago, I'd probably say something along the lines of "Man do I miss these guys." Though their spirit is carried on nearly sufficiently in their greyscale-shaded offspring (None More- and Paint It Black), KD was the ultimate, a truly colored explosion of melody and fury and to this day the best hybrid of such that's graced my ears. Listen here (http://www.jadetree.com/mp3/Kid_Dynamite-News.mp3), here (http://www.jadetree.com/mp3/Kid_Dynamite-Living_Daylig.mp3), and here (http://www.jadetree.com/mp3/Kid_Dynamite-Heart_a_Tact.mp3). Oh, and here (http://www.jadetree.com/mp3/Kid_Dynamite-Bookworm.mp3). Then proceed to thank me for introducing you to one of the best things to ever come from Pennsylvania. (I mean, chances are that if you have even a remote passing interest in the genre you already listen to them, but hell, if we can pull off a crossover move I'll take it.)

If what you hear affects you in any manner, please don't be afraid to IM me to:
(a) Ask for more music from these bands
(b) Tell me how much my music taste sucks

Weird, I was going to recommend PIB, CK and ZZZZ too. I think it's just more or less that we got our promos at the same time.

I'm usually not one for the freaky shit Polyvinyl puts out sometimes but ZZZZ is definitely pretty interesting. Eccentric, sort of jazzy pop played by the wedding band when your Jewish uncle got married last week.

Dude is it just me or does it seem weird that the comeback kid cd is called Wake The Devil and the artwork for the cd looks extremely close to Mike MIgnola's Art.

Every person that looks at this website should know who Kid Dynamite is. I was fortunate enough to see them 4 times(1 was during the reunion weekend for the SSE charity) and I can't express how much they influenced my musical taste and life at that point in my life. Dr. Dan was actually my idol for a little while when I had aspirations of being a psychologist. So yeah...listen to them.
