The Moment – We Are the Plague
Record Label: Cesspool
Release Date: February 17, 2008

Who?

Two Illinois pop-punkers with tendencies toward the electronic. That’s right: there’s one two dudes in this group but they’ve got such a solid sound that you’d never be able to tell.

How is it?

They're catchy where they could have been annoying and innovative where they could have been cliche. Even if “We Are The [something]” titles are getting a little bit ridiculous lately (and The Moment isn’t the most interesting group name, either), here’s proof that you can never judge an album by it’s cover*. The group’s style is hard to pin down. At one moment, you’re focusing on the vocalist’s cracking voice, much like Sparta’s Jim Ward, and the next you’ve got your ears on the keyboardist who’s all eery Minus the Bear atmosphere (just check out the creepy-as-fuck “Congratulations Universe, You Win”). The awesome thing is that neither the straightforward punk-rock parts or the synthy electronics feel out of place. Easily a standout release from a genre that's becoming more and more devoid of standout releases.

I thought the Black Maria's last album was very underrated. I'll have to check this out.

The Moment kills it. I have Showdown at the Discoteque. It is so good.
