Who?

Four-piece indie pop band from Roslyn, NY who dabble in a gently-paced, easygoing blend of pop-rock and indie music.

How is it?

At first, it’s rather charming, particularly after the first three songs -- but it soon grows a little dull, and by the time the six-minute title track trudges along, you’ll be wandering off to find something to eat. Vocalist Kia Eshghi has a lazy, summer-day feel to his vocals that see-saw between Nada Surf and Elvis Costello, but don’t offer up much variety, distracting from the potential the opening half presents. With a flurry of indie pop sounds buzzing about, it’s almost as if Rumi is holding something back from us -- by the time it’s over, you can’t remember which track was which. Spicing up their sound with some vibrant enthusiasm and less-obvious lyrics (“Well it takes some good luck to find a good fuck”), maybe Rumi can build off their influences and add some flair to their rather boring Chotchkie’s vests.
