odd poll, but i tend to get more excited with the cardboard as opposed to plastic case... i get dissappointed when its plastic with a dumb covering thing that it slides out of

Jewel case.

Digipaks often don't come with an insert. They also cannot be replaced if they get stained or marked.

I prefer jewel cases so I can slide the booklet in front of the cd to protect the top of it in my giant cd books.

I like the cardboard fold...It doesn't crack or get fucked up.

I hate how most of the digipacks don't come with booklets. That's part of the reason I buy cds, and I hate when I don't get my booklets!

I hate the cardboard, its not replaceable if it wears, which it eventually does. I break the plastic ones all the time too, but then I go and buy a new one for like a nickel and i have a brand new case. It also drives me crazy when the cardboard ones don't come with a booklet.

Speyside

I like the cardboard ones, but I share the same concerns that everyone else has already stated, same with jewel cases. I keep all of my CD's in a road case used for protecting amplifiers though, so I don't necessarily care that digipacks don't really fit into most racks.

Thats the worst digipack I own because it won't fit anywhere-you read my mind again!

As for the question, I don't really mind...

To me, there's something about the cardboard that seems more personal, or "artsy" maybe.

Cardboard. They look cooler and the plastic jewel cases always end up breaking.

Now that I've said this, I don't think anyone knows what it is. It's essentially cardboard, but has the glued in plastic holder for the cd. They don't have to be 6-panel, in fact a lot of them are 4-panel. You'd know what it was if you saw it.

Tanooki Suit

What the fuck is a digipack? Just say "cardboard" if it's cardboard... the only designation that even matters is "gatefold".

that, plus the damned things like the fall out boy cd, are so folded already, they tend to fold so much and rip :(

It's like this glossed heavy paper compound, sort of like cardboard except it's white and not as stiff. And then it has the plastic thing for the disc.

i hate the cardboard cases...they're too flimsy, and the artwork on the front always gets all scratched up.

Yeah. I don't know if its still out. It isn't much different. It's just one of those blue cardboard sleeves with the bird logo on the front and it has desktop backgrounds and music videos and thats about it.

I think its out of print. I got it off of Interpunk.com two or three years ago. I just looked for it on there and didn't find it. It's nothing special.

i like jewelcases. my second favourite part of buying a cd (other than the cd itself) is the booklet. the motion city soundtrack cd has a really nice booklet. plus, they make good book ends or mini-tables when you stack empty jewelcases together.

ameteur. here's how it's done: unhinge the front from the bottom, then swing it up and peel it off in one motion. it's fast and doesn't leave pieces of the plastic left.
