View Full Version : My Issues With Circa Survive

I do enjoy Circa Survive, not to the point where I'm obsessed, but both Juturna and On Letting Go receive regular play. But I don't feel like gushing about them, I wanted to bring up a point. The last two albums, while they were very good, solid albums had one flaw. Eventually, you got tired of Green's vocals. Granted he is an extremely talented singer, but he doesn't do much with his range, or lack thereof. I think when they release their next album, their should be more of a focus on the instrumentals. Circa Survive, while Green probably would not say it, is a backing band, just as Good Old War was while Anthony was writing his solo record. When Circa Survive releases their next album, it should be Circa Survive, not Anthony Green with Circa Survive. Their guitarists [Colin Frangicetto and Brandon Ekstrom] and their drummer [Steve Clifford] are all very talented at what they do, and I feel that if there was more of an emphasis on the instrumentals of Circa Survive, (Maybe a few instrumental songs?) there next album will be much, much better than their last two efforts.
Summary: Circa Survive would be a better band if there was less of an emphasis on Anthony Greens vocals, and more of an emphasis on the instrumentals.
Agree, or disagree?

Completely agree.
I thought that I was the only one that thought this.
Bonus points for the summary at the end.
My issue with Circa Survive is that they made the same album twice. While it's a good album, it's not good enough to be made three times in a row.

False. Next to Bemis and Lacey, Green is God.

I love them for anthony... without him they're a forgettable band.

My only issue with them is they never come to New Orleans.
But yeah, less emphasis on the vocals would probably be cool.

bingo
I agree with more emphasis on instrumentals, although I definitely enjoy the guitars on Living Together I wish all the tracks could be that great.
As for making the same album twice, I see how they're similar considering it's the same band, but On Letting Go seems a lot more melodic than Juturna. Just my thoughts.

Oh, so if he's next to Bemis, that makes him completely average, right?

I've never really listened to this band.
Die now and die happy
the band admits/stated this themselves.
