I'll be interested to see:
1. Guy Ritchie directing a movie not about funny gangsters
2. how this will end up faring against Will Ferrel/Sacha Baron Cohen's Sherlock Holmes movie

That's what I've been thinking too. I can't wait for this one. It has some of my favorite people involved.

It's a fair mix of the two, IMO. A bit more action, probably. To be honest, this wasnt quite as good as I had hoped it would be. It wasnt bad by any means, but I had high hopes.

My sister and I laughed really loudly when Blackwood said before his hanging, "Death is only the beginning." Lol. We simultaneously thought of The Mummy.

Couldn't understand him at times either. Thought it was due to being stuck in the back corner of a theatre without a deiscernable speaker near by. But two family members who saw it at other times both said the same thing.

12/28/09, 09:01 PM
Solid, but one too many cheesy popcorn moments. It is pretty obvious that if all three leads in the film are heading to their death by a saw, that all three are going to get out okay. Also nice to see Ritchie do something worth while. But this man did Snatch and Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. Would have been really nice to see a more complex story. Also would have been alot better if Lord Blackwood or whatever his name was a better match against Holmes, but I think Moriarity will be far better than him. Solid performances from everyone too.
Solid, strayed away from much of what the Doyle stories wanted to paint for the character, witty in a sense but lame in most others. Kind of a throwaway movie just setting it up for a sequel, making all the events irrelevant except Moriarity's existence. Ritchie seemed confined by the producers strict PG-13 guidelines and the fact we didn't write a sentence of it. I liked Downey Jr. as Holmes overall.

Yeah, same here. Thus I missed out on some of the humour as well. Parts of the theater would laugh and I would be like 'wait, what did he just say?'. I just thought that maybe humour was too British for me or something. Turns out I wasn't the only one who didn't understand everything he said.

Agreed. It was like the writers didn't even care much for any buildup of plot or story - just have Guy Ritchie use the same slo-mo effects he used in "Snatch" and have RDJ and Jude Law kind of mumble their way through. The villain was a total afterthought. Inception does look sweet though.

Are you being sarcastic? House being basically a medical spinoff of Sherlock Holmes, the dynamic sort of originated there, haha. (I admit House probably fine-tuned it and made it more obvious.)
Edit: By Sherlock Holmes I mean the original books, and ugh, I just bumped this thread to probably spawn a dumb argument :-p
