Nirvana, Green Day, Paramore, Jimmy Eat World, Guns n' Roses. 85 was a while back man, and I could keep going with my list. Most of the music I listen to was from the late 80s, 90s and early 00s.

I'm your age. I know what "peaked." You're confined by nostalgia. When I began to mature, I wanted something greater, something challenging in the medium I love. Apparently, you haven't.
Oh, and yes, I went through my Saves the Day phase when I was 16 or so, so I've listened to my fair share. As for Third Eye Blind, my freshmen roommate played them incessantly.
Regardless, what you listen to is extremely limited and awful. I'd imagine you'd want something more. I'm mistaken. Pity.

They're very pedestrian Prog Rock. They had a listenable album (El Ciello, I believe), that was nothing more than "decent," and capable at best. I'm sorry you find mediocrity so wonderful.

You can't dislike Third Eye Blind just because someone overplayed them for you, that would happen with any band.

I dislike them because they're terrible Pop Rock without substance. They're exactly like every other Post-Grunge Alternapoprock band to emerge in the mid '90s.
You matured a little too much, Bruce Springsteen?
Apparently, you haven't enough. You don't like music. You like a very limited, compartmentalized sound that isn't subversive, challenging or meaningful. It's unfortunate, but many don't. It's quite obvious you view music as a disposable entertainment medium.
I will agree with a little of your music though, because I don't like to disagree with everything people say. The Velvet Underground are a great/underrated band.
How are they underrated? In the '60s, yes, they never charted well, but in successive decades, VU have become one of the most lauded acts of their time and was highly influential on Punk, and to a lesser extent, No Wave movement and Industrial. Virtually all music press, critics and enthusiasts hail this band for their brilliance.
I'm assuming they're "underrated" because those you converse with frequently haven't heard of them or don't listen to much outside that very marginalized sound you love so much.

You are even negative when I agree with you on a band, you need a hug.
The reason I say they are underrated is because they are outshadowed by bigger, more well-known bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, The Doors, and The Beatles.

1.How was mine predictable when the second paragraph you wrote repeated things you said in your post before this one?
2.Why are you so negative?
We were at each others throats, and then I realized it was stupid and immature to fight about MUSIC, which is all personal opinion. There is no right and wrong music. Your response was, essentially, wrong in every conceivable fashion. VU is not "underrated." I gave you valid reasons that you argued with flawed logic and dismissed the entire discussion by saying I'm "negative."
2.Why are you so negative?
Idiocy annoys me.
You completely interjected yourself into a conversation I was having, make a sarcastic crack at me, and I proceeded to dish it back. You know nothing about music, stop pretending you can have a discussion about it. You dismiss Pavement, the band that crafted the modern sound adopted by many bands that are associated with the alt rock sound that falls under the "Indie" label? One of the most influential bands of the last twenty years? You think VU is underrated because "my friends know Zep, and Floyd has t-shirt sold at Target?" You make stupid comments. I'm going to challenge them. You'll interpret that as "negativity."
We were at each others throats, and then I realized it was stupid and immature to fight about MUSIC, which is all personal opinion.
Yet another stupid comment predicated on ignorance of the medium and art criticism and critique on a whole.

well, all "best" is is an opinion basically. because thats all you get out of these threads anyways. the purpose in posting a thread is to get replies, and since the replies are posted by individuals, who inevitably post their opinions, as they should, they can say who they think as best. so really, its whoever you think is the best. i'm sure if you think about, there is a band that sticks out in your mind as the best. it doesn't mean they are. it just means, ultimately, you like them the best

If it was from 1982 I'd say The Smiths,
But noooooooooooo.
Word.
You can't dislike Third Eye Blind just because someone overplayed them for you, that would happen with any band.
You matured a little too much, Bruce Springsteen?
I will agree with a little of your music though, because I don't like to disagree with everything people say. The Velvet Underground are a great/underrated band.
I know it was a couple posts back, but they are not "under rated" at all. Highly respected and influencial, yes.

What Muse songs are you listening to? How does 'Butterflies and Hurricanes' sound anything like 'Time is Running Out' or 'Supermassive Blackhole' sound like 'Assassin'? Just picking those two pairs as they are from the same albums and I would assume you have listened to a whole album.

His vocals bore me so much, I instantly don't care for the song because of how he sings pretty much 90% of the time. I have seen them live as well and whilst they were good musicians, I didn't find them as incredible as everyone makes out.

I didn't watch this because, frankly I don't care. However, I'm quite sure it would be impossible for me to be the "best friend" since we've established I'm a five year old. You can be my six year old companion who saves me from the rest of the awful, pretentious bullies of the internet site.
Haha, weak analogy dude.
Question though, what makes you "know stuff"? Also, who cares if he doesn't like Pavement? Accept people's musical taste as what it is and don't be such a condescending douche about it next time.
Oh and for my picks, I nominate Nirvana, Rage Against The Machine or Radiohead.

To be honest, I never really had much of an opinion of them until I saw them live and they blew me away. This was just coming off their last album and relistening I discovered a lot of their stuff was rezlly good, there was something about the CDs that seeing them live just made it all click.
Matt Bellamy does have very bad breathing both on record and live though, so that might be it.

This is where I berate you for being utterly stupid.
Read the actual posts before you come in, guns-ablazing against the AP Elitistas. The kid said Pavement was nothing more than a boring indie band, essentially ignoring the profound impact the band had on a particular subgenre and sound in the '90s along with the vast critical acclaim they've received, proving his ignorance of the particular sound they ushered in/helped to mold. If you say something stupid, I'm going to accentuate said stupidity and explain why, in fact, the comment was devoid of thought.
Moreover, this kid picked a fight with me in another thread, which lead to this spar of words. Of course, you'd not know that, but if you actually read the rest of our interaction in this thread, you'd have some context to our discussion.
I don't care what you listen to, but if you make comments without foundation or information, I'm going to call you out for it. Also, if you pick a fight with me, I'm probably going to be a dick.

I think Muse was very promising early in their career, the first few albums I really enjoyed, but then it became apparent that they really stick to the same chord progressions, techniques, and song structures over and over the for the most part. Each of their newer albums certainly have some solid songs and they are definitely good musicians, but they need to branch out a little more.

He might not like the music, but what does have that have to do with the band's influence? There's a ton of bands who's music I don't particularly enjoy, but I still respect their impact. It is astonishing to me just how much of the point you miss. I will never chastise someone for not enjoying a highly subversive, critically lauded or innovative band, so long as they appreciate the simple fact that they can acknowledge what the band has done. To say "Pavement is a boring indie band" is to completely discredit everything they've contributed to music in the last twenty years, which is complete ignorance. It's fine to proclaim "I don't like Pavement's music," but you still must concede to what they've meant to that Alt Rock/Indie subgenre.
For instance, I'm not particularly fond of the Beatles. I do, however, completely understand and respect all they've done for the pop-music lexicon as well as the vast, never-ending influence their music has had on the medium. They're amazing, however, in my personal, subjective template of what constitutes as "enjoyable music," nothing save for Revolver and parts of the White Album have particularly appeal to me. However, if someone was listing them as "most important band of the '60s," I'd never contest this, because they're easily one of the most important bands of that decade, despite my personal distaste for most of their music.

I read over the exchange before even making the first post. He never said anything about the band not meaning shit to indie rock or whatever you're going on about. He just called them boring, which pertains to the music itself, not their influence. It's as simple as that.
Also, I'm not a kid, I'm older than you are. In this case alone, you proved my entire point of how condescending you come across.
Lastly, I don't like the Beatles either. In fact, I'm a pretty big Pavement fan. I love music. You and I could probably talk music all day long. However, here's the problem: the way you present yourself (at least on this forum) is just off-setting based on the sheer amount of pretentiousness you exude when discussing "the medium." It doesn't have to be like that. I still listen to a ton of pop punk and even some mainstream alt-rock from when I was growing up. Does that mean my scope is limited and I don't know as much as you do? Doubt it.

Yes, he said they're merely a boring indie band. That's it. He essentially reduced them to nothing more or less and implied I only choose them for "cred," indicating he has no idea why they should aptly be a viable candidate for such a question.
Stop being stubborn and read.
Also, I'm not a kid, I'm older than you are. In this case alone, you proved my entire point of how condescending you come across.
Of course I'm calling you kid, you've given me nothing else to go on but these posts, which would put you around 16ish.

Doubtful.
However, here's the problem: the way you present yourself (at least on this forum) is just off-setting based on the sheer amount of pretentiousness you exude when discussing "the medium."
You've misused the word "pretentious."
I'm coming across as an ass to a kid who targeted me in another thread, and proceeded to suggest I'd chosen Pavement merely for cred. Of course I'll hold no punches. Neither do some of the other posters who actually are capable of real discussion, ala' Vinh (I always feel like I've spelled that wrong), Ben, Topegi and the list of others. We don't have tolerance for this inanity. It detracts from the conversation and contributes nothing, just as you've done by attempting to champion the "poor scene kids standing up against the might of the awful elitist."
Pretentiousness is exuding a false sense or affectation of importance to their opinions. There's nothing "false" about telling a kid who claims I choose a band who meant much to a particular subgenre and sound in the '90s and '00s to fuck off and that he's stupid.
It doesn't have to be like that. I still listen to a ton of pop punk and even some mainstream alt-rock from when I was growing up. Does that mean my scope is limited and I don't know as much as you do? Doubt it.
Sure, I came from shitty scene music too, then I grew up. That's not the point. The point here is you impeeding on a conversation that had nothing to do with you about a kid angry he was scorned in another thread trying to tell me I chose a band for nothing more than simple posturing; which also indicates he isn't well aware of how much they've meant, or he'd understand that they're a valid choice. This was stupid.
He also said other things that weren't correct. The Velvet Underground is far from underrated. Unknown to many casual and mainstream music listeners, yes. Underrated? No. I told him why he was wrong. You call this pretention. I call this "knowing about music." Pretention is if I told him something false and lauded it over him as if I were superior. He's wrong, I'm right. It's simple.
You're not going to agree with this, that's fine. You're far too stubborn and foolish to actually try and read what I'm saying.
