Waterdown - Powersnake
Record Label: Blacktop Records
Release Date: June 2, 2008

Germany's Waterdown released a new EP earlier this year entitled Powersnake. I am sure none you knew this, because it was not advertised and the band has not visited the US since its release. The EP consists of four new songs and three covers.

The album starts with a very quick tempo song, "True Til Death." This song starts the record off fairly strong. However, the song threw me off a little. It did not have the characteristic Waterdown screaming but instead the lyrics were sung. At the start of the second track "Dull?!" the band returns to its old ways. The track has Waterdown's rudimentary screaming. However, a difference that is immediately noticeable is that the choruses are not nearly as poppy as in their past records however the record is still definitely defined as metalcore. The third song entitled "Subliminal Mindfuck" (yes that is actually what it is called) starts with a long instrumental; however, just under a minute in, it continues where "Dull?!" left off. The album continues in the same way for the final four songs. This same pattern of screaming and singing choruses gets somewhat repetitive and boring, however, it is still entertaining enough to listen to.

"Something must be done" the band chants throughout their song "Thirst For Action," and something has been done. The band has transformed itself to more of a hardcore band and has crafted a very solid album.
