So this are some bands/songs I've been listening to this past week. Some new stuff, some old stuff, whatever:
Bands:
Interpol
Love this band or else. I saw them with Blonde Redhead on Friday night and it was amazing. Simply amazing. Interpol is without a doubt one of my favorite bands. Go Carlos D!
The Bravery (http://www.myspace.com/thebravery)
Electronica-based indie rock. You know, the whole distorted vocals, dance beats kind of thing. I've become obsessed lately.
VHS or Beta (http://www.myspace.com/vhsorbeta)
A throwback to the eighties pop. Just...listen. It's a lot of fun to listen and rock out to.
Mando Diao (http://www.mando-diao.com/)
(They don't have a purevolume or Myspace. Go to the multimedia section of their website and watch the video for "Paralyzed" to get a taste of what they sound like, although the songs "The Band", "She's So" and "Mr. Moon' are better)
Cool Swedish rock band. "Bring 'Em In" is a great album. I guess you would describe them as slightly pop garage rock. I love the singer's voice.
Songs:
Deerhoof - C
(this song is insane. the entire thing is in C)
Smog - Cold Blooded Old Times
Ratatat - El Pico

The BBC called The Bravery and Bloc Party the two bands to watch for in 2005. Then, Silent Alarm comes out and is fairly disappointing (although there are a few really great songs), and The Bravery songs I've heard are good, but nothing phenomenal.
Cursed by the BBC
P.S. I absolutely adore Ratatat - "Cherry"

Yeah, it's solid, but the "rockier" songs don't really do it for me as much as the more electro-ambient ones.

The Bravery is just fair, though they do have some really good songs.
I don't agree however, that Bloc Party is disappointing. I really enjoy it, and definitely feel it will be one of the break out albums of the year.
Hell, it already is.
