View Full Version : My issue with re-issues

What is with the plethora of bands bringing out re-issues? It's such a scam to get more money.
Evidence:
A Day to remember, which happen to be one of my favourites bands, have already brought out a re-issue of "For those who have heart" and now at the end of this month they are bringing out an album called "Old record" which is their first album re-written and re-recorded.

i like that they want to show that they have improved their music but bands like ADTR especially, should be working on their live performance of those songs, not how to edit them better.

Reissues of any albums within the past 5 years unless they are out of print are lame.
Unless it comes with loads of bonus stuff.

Yeah and now we the kings are doing it, not that i'm a fan of them. I thought re-issues were released if an album did really well...i guess not

Yes. Re-issues should not be done when the time span between it and the first is so short.

it bothers me usually
however i think there are a lot of factors that go into it. pressure from a label, bands becoming more popular and wishing to reissue an album with more momentum etc.
i think the increase in re-issues and making every release available with 5 different packages or pre-order options shows how hard bands have to try to get kids to buy music these days.
Kerplunk_23
10/13/08, 11:56 PM
To me in ADTR case unless their first album was unavailable and it isnt then they should just stick with trying to make a new album, and for me personally I never buy a re-issue of any cd I already bought once.

yeah it's like bands are trying to push albums a lot more. i also agree with the label pressure...

yea
Copeland for instance, i believe, released their last album of b-sides and such as a way to fulfill their contract with the label. I thought that was said somewhere. In any event, the point is some bands definitely do that.

I have to by chiodos' rerelease,
but I don't really have a problem with it because they have a bunch of new songs and a dvd; plus you can get packages with like shirts and shit for a good deal.
And I didn't buy my copy of bpb, hah my ex won it in that contest they were having over myspace.
the cinsun rerelease is kind of annoying though, there better be a bunch of stuff in that too; I actaully bought that one hah.

i bought a blink re-issue of the self titled album..the only band i've ever bought one of
and the DVD had nothing extra on it i didnt already own from the DVD version of the singles
oh well! ill never buy one again haha
I've bought two. One of my favorite band because it also came with a jack load of extra things. The other, I bought for the reworked art, as well as a couple songs thrown on that I had not heard yet. Worth it. I usually don't get them though.

Yeah I bought the reissue of From Autumn to Ashes first album with their original demo tacked on, but I never had the original CD, so that doesn't count.
Other than that I have the Reissue of Bleed American. But my original got all scratched up, so that doesn't really count either, I guess.

I think a band that gets away with doing reissues the right way is J.E.W
The Bleed Ameriican rerelease had 32 tracks with so many extras, and the clarity and static prevails deserved a rerelease on a larger scale, and to make them available again
But yes, the example at the top is ridiculous. What's worse is people buy them.

And the worst part is when the street teams come to your door, place a barrel to your forehead, march your ass down to Best Buy and force you, at gunpoint no less, to buy the same shitty album, but with a remix and an acoustic track of the "emotional ballad." You have absolutely no choice but to buy it!!!

The thing that pisses me off about re-issues is that they usually come with extra stuff that should of came with the CD in the first place. To add to that, if I didnt buy the cd I am not going to buy it with the 2 or 3 b-sides or live/acoustic versions of songs.

The artists who are releasing re-issues short months after recording the original are the artists I am speaking of. There is definitely some creativity. Mainstream is kind of lackluster though, not that mainstream ever was excessively creative, but it's getting a little out of hand.

i think bands should do re issues if they switch singers, like with FFTL, if they released heroine, or dear diary with Matt singing i'd buy it.
and Escape the Fate re issuing their old album with Craig singing.
i hate when bands reissue a cd just to add like 3 more songs.

Actually, the deluxe edition of Bleed American was worth it even if you already had the original. 3 new songs plus a whole disk full of acoustics, demos, etc. is a good deal if you ask me.

Re-issues should only be done if:
1) The album has been out for longer than 10 years
2) The album is out of print, and hard to find
3) The re-issue has bonus stuff, and lots of it
So case in point, a re-issue that was worth making was Jawbreaker's "Dear You".
Re-issues that should not have been made were any of the albums Chiodos has put out.

You do realize that, in the '60s and '70s, many of the most luminary artists/musicians/bands of the time were, in fact, "mainstream," right?

re-issues shit the hell out of me. especially when they whack on a bonus cd or dvd aswell. it sucks because allt he fans already have the album by the time the re-issue comes out so if they want to other stuff they have to buy it again. i think it should be the other way around. put the awesome bonus cd and dvd and such things on the album when it comes out for a limited time. so when the fans buy it when it comes out, they get the bonus's without having to buy it twice

I don't mind reissues as long as there's enough bonus material to make me want to buy it. Otherwise I don't care because my money isn't going towards it. Remasters are alright, depending on the artist and who's remastering them.
