Pixar's Up is directed Pete Docter, who also directed Monsters, Inc previously in addition to writing the stories for Toy Story and Toy Story 2. The film is co-directed and written by Bob Peterson, who wrote Finding Nemo previously. Disney is planning to debut up in theaters everywhere on May 29th, 2009 next summer. For more information on Up, head over to our first look at the characters and the story.

noooooooooooo, just if there is going to be a movie released in 3D by pixar, that it would also be in 2D as well. There are plenty of theatres and people in this country that would stick to 2D for whatever reasons

3d is fun and all, i just feel that every film i've seen in 3d they clearly made it for the experience and the "wow" factor of it with fairly large sacrifices to character and plot.

Despite being occasionally cool, 3D often looks ridiculous, Pixar or otherwise. I would have no problem with never seeing another 3D film again.

noooooooooooo, just if there is going to be a movie released in 3D by pixar, that it would also be in 2D as well. There are plenty of theatres and people in this country that would stick to 2D for whatever reasons
Maybe because a lot of theaters still don't have 3D in them? At work we got Journey To The Center Of The Earth and we are so old that we only supported the 2D version (toal garbage) and the closest 3D theater was in Cleveland (half-hour to forty-five minutes away) and people were pissed about the theater not being able to support 3D, which got anoying. Unless a movie is made to be 3D like JTTCOTE was I don't see the big hoopla, I've seen a few Disney and other films in 3D - it's not that special and kind of annoying after a while.

Anyways, about this movie... I love Pixar and will take my time to see what they do. I didn't care for Cars too much but loved everything else I've seen by them and Wall-E was easily one of my favorite/best films all year. I will have to view the teaser trailer or whatever is out there when I get on my actual computer again but I know I will undoubtly see this.

I know, this character of Carl is just so lovable. I love that part when that little kid knocks on Carl's door and then he slams it, but then opens it later. You can tell those two are going to be hysterical, solely on the age gap between both of them. Don't know why the link isn't work, but I can add it again now.

I remember being in the theatre for Finding Nemo and them showing a teaser for The Incredibles with Bob trying to put on his supersuit and that got me interested in the movie.

Pixar is definitely a company I would love to work for.

Just read an article (http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1603886/story.jhtml) saying that UP is going to have a television spot during the Super Bowl this year. I can't wait. This is what MTV had to say, " It's one of our most-anticipated films of 2009 (http://www.mtv.com/movies/news/articles/1602097/20090105/story.jhtml), and there's something about the footage that we've already seen that simply screams "genius," as in "WALL-E"-type genius. Don't be surprised if the "Up" commercial becomes the biggest touchdown scored on Sunday."

This is such a valuable time slot for any movie, so I know this is going to be awesome.

Wall-E is by far one of my favorite Pixar movies. It has nothing to do with a robot picking up trash for an hour, that's literally only in it for 10-15min. It's a great flick.

Not that I even needed to read any good reviews to be convinced, but I saw this post about the first reviews (http://justjared.buzznet.com/2009/05/12/up-review/) for UP, so I wanted to share! This is going to be a masterpiece from Pixar, I just know it!

The Hollywood Reporter (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/hr/film-reviews/film-review-up-1003972156.story): “Winsome, touching and arguably the funniest Pixar effort ever, the gorgeously rendered, high-flying adventure is a tidy 90-minute distillation of all the signature touches that came before it.”

Roger Ebert (http://blogs.suntimes.com/ebert/2009/05/up_up_and_away_in_my_beautiful.html ): “this is a wonderful film. It tells a story… [Director Peter Docter's] whole film is an oblique rebuke to those who think action heroes have to be young.”

Time (http://www.time.com/time/arts/article/0,8599,1896685-1,00.html): Extending the patented Pixar mix of humor and heart, Up is the studio’s most deeply emotional and affecting work.

John Ratzenberger tells UGO (http://movieblog.ugo.com/movies/toy-story-3-trailer-to-debut-before-up) that the Toy Story 3 trailer will be attached to Up, which hits theaters on May 29th 2009.

Up producer Jonas Rivera confirms in a recent interview, saying that “under her bed is one of the new stars of ‘Toy Story 3’.” No word on the character’s name just yet, or which actor or animator will be providing the bear’s voice.

IGN reviewed it (for what thats worth) and gave it a perfect rating. Heres a little excerpt from it

"The result is a near perfect feature, a thrilling combination of humour, pathos, action and drama. Utterly original, endlessly inventive, and brilliantly crafted to appeal to old and young alike, it may well be Pixar's finest feature yet, and when you consider the competition, that's high praise indeed"

Oh no, I totally think it is worth it. I wish they would release more movies in 3-D. I think it just adds to the entire experience of the movie. UP will especially be a good story to follow in 3-D judging on all the adventure and visuals I have just seen from the clips and trailers so far!

That's how mine is. But it is a regal and we only have six theaters. Max 8-10 employees.

We'd have mad leaks and stuff all the time. I remember opening night of Pirates 3 we had to refund the whole theater cause it rained and leaked through the roof.

How does this guy have a job?

FstFtsVsFences
05/27/09, 09:00 PM
Hahaha this guy is out of his damn mind. Here are some goodies...

The Wrestler
" Aronofsky inflicts as much pain on the audience as self-flagellating Ram Jam does when brutalizing/mutilating himself in and outside the ring."

Gran Torino
" This is pitiful, nostalgic fun for Dirty Harry fanatics. Yet it lacks the political edge that made the Dirty Harry movies provocative."

Transporter 3 (I shit you not)
" Forget the Oscar bait, Transporter 3 is the only movie you need to see this season."

Milk
" A bizarre manipulation of the gay political impulse."

The Dark Knight
" The generation of consumers who swallow this pessimistic sentiment can’t see past the product to its debased morality. Instead, their excitement about The Dark Knight’s dread (that teenage thrall with subversion) inspires their fealty to product."

Iron Man
" Iron Man is a dispiriting attempt to apply superficial principles to inherently silly kid culture."

In Bruges
" It’s deeply insulting to movie audiences when an award-winning playwright thinks that this sub-Tarantino nonsense carries the essence of cinema in some way."

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry
" It’s a modern classic (despite a cheap-shot plug for Giuliani). By comparison, Hollywood’s most celebrated gay comedies -- In and Out, Chuck and Buck, Blades of Glory, even the laughable Brokeback Mountain -- were all failures of nerve."

watched this for a second time tonight.

toy story 3 trailer is for sure attached. its just a teaser, but its nice to see woody and buzz on the screen again. the only purpose it really serves is to announce that toy story 3 comes out next year. no real film footage, and there is no mention of the 3d re release of toy story 1 & 2.

im not sure if it is because it was in a different auditorium tonight or what but the 3d was ten times better tonight than it was sunday night.

i fucking love pixar so much.

All Pixar Films rule, end of story.

EDIT: Unless Bolt was one, cause that one was ehhhhhhhh.

I find this really weird:

The Village Voice: "Do not see Up in 3-D. It's inessential to the tale and altogether distracting."
New York Magazine: "By all means, see Up in its 3-D incarnation: The cliff drops are vertiginous, and the scores of balloons--bunched into the shape of one giant balloon--are as pluckable as grapes."

I don't plan on seeing this 'til Sunday, so could someone please let me know which is better?

TJ asked the question I came in here for. Also, I've never seen a movie in 3D.

Depending on the movie, watching it in 3D really doesn't add to the experience THAT much. Something like Bolt, I could of done without the 3D, but I thought it was cool for Coraline. I honestly don't think it's really worth the 3-4 extra dollars but I know a lot of people who do.

I think I'll start with 2D and if I love it (like I expect to) will then go 3D.

the 3-d is fantastic on this movie, but honestly i didnt notice most of the 3-d details until i watched this a second time. its well worth the money in my opinion, but if money is an issue just go with the 2-d version.

I likely won't bother with 3-D since they're a serious nuisance to put on over my glasses.

Critics have also said the film's palette is too light and subtle to be complemented by 3-D. I'll just see for myself.

after WALL-E, I didn't think another pixar movie could come this close to topping TOY STORY, but damn if UP fucking blows that one away. I loved this movie so damn much. The 3-dness only added to how good it is. Good thing: they fit awesome over my glasses.

so...where does this rank with other pixar's?

Not quite as good as Wall-E, a bit better than Ratatouille. So - near the top.
