View Full Version : The fans of pop-punk

I tried to hold back in this. I honestly did. But now, too many people have managed to piss me off.

I've seen a lot of fans of the music I love on here, and it makes me sad to think that I am associated with some of them. Countless times have I seen people moaning their asses off on here because they haven't got their fix of new music in time. The Finch album is a good example. So many people on here have complained about it's delay, even though Finch redid the album because they weren't happy with the result of their first set of songs. See, Finch remade a complete album because they didn't want to bring out a half-assed record, and this is how their "fans" repay them?

Another example is the departure of Blink-182. Sure, I am sad about this. Blink-182 is the reason I love the music I love today, and I'm sure that can go for many other kids. But when someone makes a petition on the same day they break up for them to reform, and over 4000 people sign it, it's horrible. They dismembered for a reason; because they wanted to enjoy what they have with their families and friends, and they want to try other things. They spent most of their careers listening to the fans of their music, and not even after 1 day, the same audience is demanding them to reunite.

So this goes out to all the impatient and slow-minded fucks who listen to the same music that I do, who apparently live for music and cannot breathe without it: Find something else to do! I don't care what, but music is not the only thing in life. I actually do find music to be a big part of my life, but it hasn't taken over me. I'm at school, I play video games, I go out with friends. There is more to music than bitching on a message board that you are creaming yourself for the next Brand New album, or complaining that the album sucked (I don't give a shit what people say, I enjoyed Senses Fail's debut!).

These are the people that apparently represent how lovers of pop-punk are displayed, and to me, it's kinda sad.

Sorry to rant, I just needed to get that out of my system.

i was thinking a lot about this after the blink thing...I think right now a lot of the kids in the scene don't quite get it. Not to sound old or wise or anything, but when I first started listening to blink, they were people. The way bands worked back then was totally different. The underground was underground. The internet was only used by about 2 people in your class and it was slow as hell, blink didn't even have a website. The only information you could get about a band was word of mouth or mailing lists (not email), so the 'scene' was crucial. People were drawn together by common interest because it meant something. Things were so much less watered down. Because of all that, somehow, the bands never got larger than life. I think right now, people see these bands as an act, not a group of people making music. I'd be as sad if blink broke up then as I am now, and I can't even tell you how much it sucks if they really did split, but it seems once kids see a band on MTV now, they aren't people anymore, there's no respect. This goes back several years. I remember a few years back when Bad Religion and Mr. Brett parted, it was huge news within the group, but it was accepted and people respected it because they understood that the band was just people like us. Now a few years later, John Nolan leaves taking back sunday and people spend hours and now YEARS dwelling on it. This petition is just another example of how people don't really get what they're involved in anymore. We're at a ridiculous advantage now over what we had even 5 years back, with the ability to keep tabs on and promote so many bands. But somehow people need to get in touch with reality and fix the little scene that was made to get away from the watered down industry music types and fake me out fans, because it's getting just as bad.

I was just thinking about that a while ago. I used to only find out about bands through talking to friends and digging through their cds, randomly buying cds, or picking up compilations or samplers. There weren't really any music sites or mp3s. Now pretty much any tiny local band can get exposure all over the world. Craziness. This is making me feel old. All you crazy young kids don't know how good you have it nowadays with your crazy newfangled technology! It's the devil! The devil I tells ya!

Because they're terrible.

And if the fans bother you, start listening to a new type of music. Maybe like 2 pop punk bands are good right now anyways, so there's really no point in listening to a terrible genre.

What's your point? So what, I happen to enjoy the music? Doesn't mean that I am retarded, or that I have no opinion.

A) Rock bands don't get much money. The money they do get comes mainly from selling merch and tickets to shows. Record money hardly touches the musicians' hands
B) A money making scheme? Let's get one thing straight; they don't owe you jack shit! You bought a record which they took the time to make for you to listen to. That doesn't mean we own them, and that we can treat them like crap. Get over yourself and take some responsability.
C) I bought BCR's album because it's good. I didn't even download Transplants album! I don't own any Atticus clothing and I don't have a pair of Macbeths. The point is, just because Blink were famous doesn't mean everything they touch will be as popular. It will do well, but not as well.

I'll complain to the ends of the mothertrucking Earth to rid the scene of people like you! You're greedy, complaining arse is what's wrong, and you don't seem to realize that.
