A new Juliana Theory (www.thejulianatheory.com) studio diary can be found in the replies. The record is in the very very final stages of mixing and the final product will contain anywhere from 9 to 13 songs. The guys decided to take the quality over quantity approach. Read more details in the replies.

THE JULIANA THEORY - STUDIO DIARY 2005 - ENTRY #7 Tuesday, February 22 2005 – Greensburg, Pennsylvania Yesterday, as I returned home from the studio, I was greeted by rain that turned to freezing rain that turned to snow. Oh, home sweet home, how I love thee. There was something nice about Southern California, I just can not seem to remember what it was now. Hmmm. Where’d that cup of hot tea go? Anyways the topic today is “A Mixed Album:” We now have a new one of these… almost. The actual songs are all mixed. We’ve just got a few little things to do. Therefore, the record is pretty close to being finished. We are working on some intervals between tunes, but the real songs are complete. The whole thing is yet to be sequenced and mastered of course, but we are closer than ever. We’re not releasing most of the song titles to you yet because we are stubborn. Plus, there are a handful of demos flying around the web that people have been confusing for album tracks. We’ll let them stay confused for a while. We can say that the record will have somewhere between 9 and 13 songs on it. We’ve decided to shoot for quality over quantity on this record. Who needs 14 songs anyways? So, today was the JT’s album listening party here in Greensburg. I flew across the red white and blue to mix this thing without anyone in the band. The guys heard virtually nothing from the mix sessions while they were in progress. It was just myself, John Travis, and Atom (our assistant engineer), doing the mixes. Karch came by on a regular basis to tell us a little something here and there too. But when I came home to the band today, I had mixes that were pretty much a surprise. The guys knew what songs they were getting but were not sure how they would sound. Upon hearing the album, everyone was very pleased (which is quite the relief to me). The twins were especially excited. The guitars are bigger and louder than they’ve ever been on a TJT record so of course they are pleased. Fiedler said the record sounds like “we are playing right inside of your head.” The tones of the instruments honestly sound organic and real. There are zero drum samples. The guitar tones are not EQ’d to death. My vocals have their share of imperfections. All of the tracks have little things that we would not have kept on previous records. It’s real this time around. Rock and roll is real. Why make a perfect sounding album? I don’t want perfect music. I don’t even want a perfect driving record. I’m in luck on both counts. Now the new priority sinks in. It’s one week until tour starts. The new merch has arrived. New guitars have arrived. New songs are being rehearsed. It’s finally that time to head back out and be a real touring band again. I look forward to it more every day. It’s about time. We miss you all. Sure, the record is mostly done, but I’ll probably post another one of these studio diaries sooner or later. Maybe even two more. I’m forgetting a lot of things. Signing off for the moment… peace, Brett Here (http://www.thejulianatheory.com/images/BigGuitars.jpg) is just a small sampling of the guitars we used. I told you it was big guitars. John and I (http://www.thejulianatheory.com/images/Listening.jpg) are intently listening to a mix. Lighten up guys. This (http://www.thejulianatheory.com/images/StudioYard.jpg) is what I left to come back to Pennsylvania. What was I thinking? The elusive manager (http://www.thejulianatheory.com/images/KarchBrettJohn.jpg), Karch and myself sharing a laugh while John keeps things loud.

I'm pretty excited for this new album...but 9-13 songs? It better have at least 10... Their past 2 full lengths both had at least 13, i think.
All I want is the explosiveness of Understand ..., the awesomeness of Emotion... and the rock n roll feel of Love.... I sure hope they don't dissapoint!!! They are defeinitely one of my fave bands!

Exactly, 9 songs would have to be some really long songs, unless they think they're Texas Is The Reason.

At first I thought What the hell, better not be 9 tracks, but even if it is, if they're all AWESOME, then 9 is ok by me than 13 with like 6 AWESOME and 7 pretty good...

I just came up with an original idea. Screw 9 songs, man! They should release 36 songs in a 3-disc set. Nah....that would never work. What kind of record label would allow THAT?
the kind that rhymes with DTR? :p

the early november is doing exactly that from what i hear, a 3-disc cd of 36 songs sometime in the future, should be amazing.

You my friend, are an idiot. A SMART record label, who doesn't restrict their bands, and it would never work? If you've heard some new E11 songs, you'd know it apparently WILL work.

I love reading when bands justify less songs citing quality over quantity. Seriously...if you have went to all the work of writing, recording, mixing, and post production what sense does it make to not put it on the cd after all of that? I mean they include delted scenes on movies now for god sake because they know people who are into something can take as much as they can dish out. If you wanna argue for only like 9 songs, go for it, just turn the cd off when you get done with the 9th track...ill be listening as long as the disc runs.
I mean I guess they can justify leaving stuff completely done saying that it could end up on a b-side sometime, but unless they are among the very small percent of bands who release b-sides it is either never gonna get heard or just end up on the internet as a free mp3 download. In a business that killed a great way for people to easily discover new music at the click of a button saying that it hurt the industry you would think they would be smart enough to find a way to maximize profit while cutting back on expenses and waste.
I mean I guess I can see where bands are coming from by weighing quality over quantity when it comes to albums. Say you have 7 or 8 excellent songs on an album of 9 to 10 tracks. A person reviewing the album is much more likely to give it an overall better rating than if it had the same 7 or 8 great songs sprinkled with a few more fillers in a 15 song release.
Im not really making much sense here arguing both sides but all I know is that I want some new Juliana Theory and I want as much of it as I can get and I want that as soon as I can get it. 3 weeks ago.
Detar can out dance Travolta any day.
