He is running for Senate in Minnesota:
In Minnesota, Sen. Norm Coleman (R) has slipped into a dead heat with his Democratic opponent Al Franken; Franken stands at 38 percent to 36 percent for Coleman and 18 percent for independent candidate Dean Barkley.

I love Al Franken. I quite enjoy him as a comedian and I have a lot of respect for what he is doing right now instead of just complaining about it. Pretty remarkable how far he's gone in the race too.

lol, that was great. I'd love to see ads like this on the national level.

don't like coleman or franken. But will probably vote for franken.
I like Franken. I've read Lies (and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them)and The Truth (with Jokes) and recommend them for any Franken fans or anyone looking to get into some of his political stuff.

Did as well. I've donated about $25 bucks to a few campaigns. Not a lot, but making some contributions.

Same here, essentially I just take whatever campaign stipends I've made here and there and send it off to Senate races. Given $25ish to Hagan, Franken, Begich, and Martin

Good for you. I've donated to Franken, Begich, Allen (in Maine).
Hagan the one challenging Dole in NC?

Kay Hagan would be terrible for North Carolina.

it's suprising to see someone bothering to pay attention to alaskan senatorial races on here.
i like begich......except for the fact that he's raised property taxes as much as he has since becoming mayor of anchorage.

Stevens has needed to go for a while. Now that Alaska has an eye on it, now it's really important.

yeah, and a vote for stevens is a vote for palin appointing a replacement once stevens gets sent to the pokey.
stevens has brought in a shitload of money into alaska over the years.....which has led to alot of people here ignoring his politics and just concentrating on the cash he's brought in.

preaching to the choir here.
i also dislike the fact that he and his family partly own massive fishing trawlers (huge boats that destroy all life on seabeds for miles at a time) and still have been given the power to regulate the fishing industry (no conflict of interest here officer), and that he's called anwr a wasteland.........the man still managed to win the alaskan of the century award.

If he had his way, he would clean the trees off the face of the Earth.
What?
Kay Hagan is absolutely clueless. She would be as effective a senator for North Carolina as John Edwards was. That is to say that when she did show up to vote the last person she would have in mind is her constituents.

Her Education ideas are brilliant. I don't know if you've attended school in NC, I was still making macaroni faces in 1st grade. The state is 49th in the nation.
No one cares about the Wright Brothers anymore, your schools suck.

I think you are thinking of South Carolina, and it depends on which rankings you look at. Besides that, no I didn't go to public school in North Carolina, or high school in the state for that matter. If her ideas on education are so amazing why didn't she try to institute during her time in state government? There are a few schools in Charlotte where most of the students don't even speak English. Kind of tough to improve a school when nobody speaks the language very well.
the Charlotte Observer endorses Hagan, but this is hardly a ringing endorsement;
"Hagan, a corporate lawyer, rose quickly in the N.C. Senate to help chair the powerful Appropriations Committee. Her record shows a pro-business Democrat who has been closely tied to entrenched Democratic leadership. Among the initiatives she has been a part of: raising teacher salaries and pumping up spending on universities. Conservatives criticize her record on spending; progressives say she has not led the charge for their issues.
Hagan has compiled a record of advocacy for her district, whittling down an increase in the state cigarette tax (we disagree with that stance) that affected manufacturers in her district and scoring funding for community assets such as a civil rights museum.
Yet in her campaign Hagan has not been able, clearly and consistently, to get across the principles she will use to make decisions in the U.S. Senate. Nor has she stated firm positions so that voters know where she stands on immigration reform, for example, or the federal bailout.
To be effective Hagan will need to define where she stands and how she will make decisions. She must act more like a leader and less like a follower.
She also will need to demonstrate she will think for herself, and not be a rubberstamp for the Democratic leadership. We want to see someone who’s willing to buck party leaders if it’s best for North Carolina. We didn’t see that enough in Dole, which is why we recommend a change."
All they say positive about her is that she brought in a civil rights museum and raising teacher pay. How does raising teacher's pay better the schools? If anything it rewards them for having shitty schools.
i am a minnesota democrat, and ive been trying force myself to like franken enough to vote for him. he came to my school, and while i agreed with him on most every issue, he left me with an inexplicably bad taste in my mouth. i still cant describe it. not to mention the race between him and coleman here has gotten down to the worst of mudslinging. while theres no way id ever vote for coleman, i just dont know if i can pull the trigger on this dude.
