Decent voice.

She can sing okay, not particularly well but not badly and her lyrics are atrocious.

I said no.

I don't mind some of her lyrics LTFB for example, but i've really never understood the fuss over her voice, she's so weak live.

She is not a good singer at all live.

To be honest, I used to say this after seeing them live but i've just seen a live video of Decode live and her voice sounded flawless.

Post-performance production. The way that they record live shows, they can pretty much do what they do with studio recordings.

No it wa definitely live, it was a fan recording, she doesn't use autotune or anything like that, she's solid nothing special but solid.

To be honest I think she'll improve overtime, she was really bad back in the days live but seems to be getting better whenever I see new live footage, hence the only time will tell option haha.

You can still use auto tune live and her songs are extremely easy to sing so her being note perfect on them is no achievement.

Absolute bollocks, Decode, LTFB, Hallelujah and Conspiracy are not easy to sing.
Easy songs to sing are the crap like Rihanna and Britney Spears we are shit shovelled every day.

She sounds like someone who has had a lifetime of people telling her that she has a great voice and that she should be famous, none of them being qualified to do so.

Haha, I disagree but still hahaha, she is one of the few famous half decent vocalists out there now though sadly.

Wait, are you seriously posing this question? Of course not. She has one of those interchangeable, "capable-at-best" voices, her lyrics are contrived and devoid of depth and, I'm not sure if she's an instrumentalist, but all the compositions of the songs are trite, 2-chord power pop that any shitty garage scene band could play, so she fails on that front too.

No, no she is not talented.

Precisely. How many people have any of you known who could sing without sounding like a wreck, but were mediocre at the very best, but they have this deluded, inflated sense of their talents because family and friends, who are just blown away by anyone who can kinda-sorta pull of a note without choking, have been feeding them this verbal spew about how they're exceedingly talented and possessors of a wonderful voice.

We all know a wealth of people like that. Normally, they don't make it past karaoke bars because, well, they're crushingly mediocre, but Haley got a couple guys to write songs that sound like every other Fall Out Boy track in a time where the "pop rock/pop punk" sound was blowing up in the mainstream.

Actually she has a 4 and a half octave vocal range, can play gutar, keyboards and drums so she's slightly talented. Paramore's songs are not all that simple either better than most in their genre right now.

Do you know how many people have that range and above? I can play bass and keyboards. I suck. Being capable with instruments doesn't make you good. Oh, and yes, Paramore's songs are incredibly simple. The other night, my shitty band was playing a frat party, and they all wanted to hear Paramore covers, so we played them with near perfection...without ever practicing. Goddamn, they're easy.

Not all Paramore songs are simple, only the CD tracks but the intros and outros they add are reall good. Not many people have a larger range, please name 10 modern contemporary female vocalists with a better range, baring in mind I don't like Hayley's voice but I do respect that she is talented.

4 Octave vocal range is nothing special and anyone can learn to play those instruments does she do anything fresh or interesting with them? No. Do her songs have even an ounce of complexity melody wise or instrumentally? Does she demonstrate any maturity with songwriting or lyrical skills? No.

She is nothing remotely special. Just a girl who can sing simple melodies in tune and sound slightly above average with studio engineering behind her.

By the way considering someone a good singer through vocal range is idiotic, all it proves is you can sing in tune, a skill millions and millions and millions of people posses.

Vocal range has nothing to do with singing in tune fool, it's the range of notes you can hit successfully, she has good range but fairly often can't sing in tune tbh.

Mariah Carey
Lauryn Hill
Christina Aguilera
Aretha Franklin
Jenny Lewis
Whitney Houston
Celine Dion
Bjork
Beth Gibbons
Diana Ross

all those women have made successful records in the 90 or 00's thus making them contemporary and all are infinitely better singers and more versatile than Hayley Williams could ever dream of.

To add to the list:

Jolie Holland
Alison Krauss
Regina Spektor
Kate Walsh
those three girls from my choir class senior year

are four others who boast higher octave exploration and are also considerably more talented than Williams.

Yes. And?
10/18/08, 12:51 PM
Her voice is okay. Whether that's due to studio diddling or natural "talent", I don't know. Never bothered watching a live performance except when they decided to fuck up other bands' songs.

No it has everything to do with singing in tune. It means she can sing so many notes in so many keys in tune. Not that she has a pleasant or extroadinary voice, good breathing or can sing complex and challenging melodies it means she could sing laaaaaa in a certain number of notes. Nothing more nothing less.

You're afool and i'll leave it at that compared to 90percent of the crap we are dealt nowadays on the radio she is talented-end of.

I agree apart from Mariah Carey hasa terrible voice good range nothing else, but I was meaning compare her to Rihanna, Miley Cyrus, Britney Spears etc etc, you know the rest of theshit the radio forces us to listen to and sheis talented or at least more talented than they are, also don't forget she's19 she will improve.

Celine Dion's been mentioned! Quick! Where's the guy who always tells the story about singing in her choir! :-d

Hayley Williams: Acceptable voice, mediocre and generic lyrics. Overall score: 55%. I do NOT believe she has a four octave range. Christina Aguilera has a four octave range.

Adding to the list of better modern female vocalists:

Imogen Heap
Joanna Newsom
Roisin Murphy
Emmy Rossum
Feist

There is a video that Brett Manning her vocal coach has somewhere I can't be arsed finding it but if you look around on youtube for Brett Manning i'm sure you'll find it, he discusses her vocal range and how she keeps her voice in good condition.
