I heard the JP import version of this that released there like 4-5 months ago (a friend of mine bought it and sent me the mp3s), and it's probably their best album to date. Most solid, at least.

I, for one, am surprised these guys are still around...and that they have fans.

I still love these guys. I saw them for the first time about a year and a half ago with the Early November and then about a month ago with Bowling For Soup. unfortunately I had to be seen at the Bowling For Soup show but I was willing to do so in order to see American Hi-Fi and Riddlin Kids.

I thought their first album had a cool, guilty pleasure quality ("I'm a Fool"=great tune) but seriously, this song is so cheesy. I honestly can't believe this is their single. This song makes Bowling for Soup sound like Nirvana in comparison, and thats saying a lot.

I'm so excited for the new American Hi-Fi album, I've already preordered it. When I preordered it they gave me a 5-song EP for free, it had 3 tracks from the new album and 2 unreleased ones, a sampler of sorts i guess....anyway, i love all the new album tracks on it a lot, but especially "Hell Yeah!".

And the reason you stopped by this thread was what? To bring negativity? Makes so much sense.
American Hi-Fi is some great pop punk rock with hooks sharp enough to catch Jaws. Especially their first album. Not saying that The Art of Losing wasn't good....it was. It just wasn't the same formula as the first one which is more than likely why it didn't sell as well. It had more of an indie pop rock meets non glam 80's hair band feel to it.
I know BFS takes their lumps around here and even though I do like them im not gonna try to defend them. I haven't even been able to make it through their last 2 albums in one listen but Lets Do It For Johnny was a solid fun poppy punk "what do we do now that we are in our mid 20's and we still wanna act goofy like we did in high school." If you really wanna hear what BFS has progressed from(more than likely because of Jive records imput) compared to what they sound like now look up some of their stuff from their pre label days called Rock On Honorable Ones.. You may be surprised with what you hear and might have a different take on BFS. I think they were at a point where they could have went two ways musically between this and their Jive debut. Several of the songs on Lets Do It for Johnny are on ROHO's but the difference is that the original recordings were more ska infused pop punk with some horns and such littered nicely along the way. I dont think Ska was in their future in a day where successful ones were popping in and out faster than Starbucks could be built., but it would be interesting to see where they would have been keeping the horn backing.
I think that BFS is just one of those bands that are gonna be one you either hate or love. They dance a dangerous line between pop punk and prefabricated pop drivel. Some of you may think they are the latter but I disagree. No matter how much you can rhyme words with humerous juvenille lyrical content it is still not very easy to write outrageously catchy(annoying to some people) songs that appeal to people on a national front. They aren't the best at this but they certainly arent the worst. Another thing that definitely alienates possible new fans is their stage schtick. Anyone who sees 10 seconds of Bowling For Soup is gonna remember 2 things...the fat dude and the lead singer Jaret's annoying cheesy stage antics(an assortment of facial expressions that a human being should ever make in front of people, hamming it up for little girls who have an uncontrollable urge to grope lead singers no matter what they look like, and the god awful "im trying way too hard to trick people into thinking we're punk.
On the sliding scale of bands with similar personas modus operandi I see BFS fitting in somewhere around here
1. Blink 182
2. Marvelous 3/Butch Walker
3. New Found Glory
4. Sum 41
5. Zebrahead
6. Bowling for Soup
7. Nerf Herder
8. Simple Plan
Again Im not really saing that the quality of music is the same for these bands. Just that the lyrical content and personas of the bands are similarly linked.

Yes. Yes it was.
